japan issued fiat money to the countries that they occupied during world war 2.in the philippines(my country)the japanese gorvernment issued the fiat peso there was the 1942 series and the 1944-1945 series when japan surrenderd in 1945 president Jose P. Laurel (president of the philippines) outlawed the possession of that money.so he declared a monopoly on the issuance of the money.i have a money issued in the philippines 1944-1945 series 10 fiat peso.
Cool.I'll send you the exact exchange rate! I got your message in my inbox.sure 1000would be great. If u can send me ur adress in my inbox I'll mail you the American cash or u can mail me the Japanese money first it doesnt matter.that's so cool that u live in japan .I hope u weren't affected by the tsunami or anything!thanks for replying! Thomas
May I please have a coin? If it is ok with you. I'm recently trying to learn Japanese. But it's cool and totally understandable if you don't want too!
hey thanks, I am in Camp Zama and no one here tells you how the money works( I am an officer) so I just went outside and I did not know how the money worked
going tomorrow again, thanks for the vid, helped a lot
@Luckyrob72 You got that right! Epecially when you find it on the ground or while metal detecting. My brother found one on the ground a he bought his lunch with it.
I have to say although rare the smallest decimal of Japan is SEN if that is even still made though..100 SEN=1 YEN I have a paper note 50 SEN from allied occupation after WW2 ended and a 1 SEN coin.
I mainly collect coins, but if the chance to buy paper money at a resonable cost arrives, than I might buy it. But mainly, I stick to coins. I've never heard of IBNS before.
quick question if i were to go to bank of america and do acurreny exchange for 2000 yen would they give the a 2000 yen bill or would they give me 2 1000 yen bills
Chances are you'll get two 1,000 yen bills. But if you do, and you want a 2,000 yen bill, just ask if you can trade for one. It's like two dollar bills; they have them at banks, and all you have to do is ask.
To make Chinese letters, look online for Chinese letter text. Scroll down, and you'll be able to see a comment I wrote about how to read Japanese dates.
hey my dad went to japan a few months ago and he bought me back currencey as he knows my passion for coin collecting ,and some of them have engilsh numbers, and japanese on the bottom i understand the english but not the japanese.......help me figure them out!!!
The Japanese do it by the year of the emperors rein. If the coin has something that looks like this 昭, than it's Showa. He ruled from 1926-1989. If the coin shows this 平, than it's Heisei. He ruled from 1989-present.
Now, here's how to actaully read them. If your coin shows 昭 1, than it's 1926. If it shows 昭 2, than it's 1927. On the last year of his rein which is 昭 64 (1989). After 昭 64, we move on to 平. If it shows 平 1, than it's 1989. If it shows 平 21, than it's 2009.
Are you following this? Here's where it gets tricky. The 5 yen and one yen coins don't show the number in western form, they show the number in Japanese kanji form. So if it says 昭 六 四, Than it's 1989. Visit this page for more info on Japanese numbers.
i think the reason why the 2000 yen note isn't as commmon because its like the $2 usd here in the states. if you buy something for $3 usd and pay witha five, chances are they will give 2 $1 dollar bills. the only place that i know of that gives back change in 2 dollar bills is the gift shop at tom jeffersons estate, the monticello in virginia
Very cool! I collected some Japanese coins and currency when I was a kid. Interesting that the coin designs, at least, haven't changed much.
A couple of comments: That the 2,000 yen note is so uncommon seems like the US $2 bill (I know they are different in value, but function is similar). They are still circulated, but you hardly ever see them. As for the 100 yen bill, in Canada, they no longer use a $1 bill. Instead, they use a $1 coin (called a Loonie).
also COINS4CHEESE is it the same size as a american dollar cause if u dont know please compare it to a american dollar .. and does the paper feel like reciept paper or copy paper please write back again plz ^_^!!!
American notes are a shade wider than Japanese bills. But Japanese bills are about half an inch taller than the U.S. ones. It feels like copy papaer, except it's less stiff and has a soft feeling to it. If I ever get an eBay account, I might sell some Japanese money.
im not japanese i am american maybe you are too i dont know but what kind of paper is japanese money made cuz american money is made out of linen please write back ^_^!!!

Thanks for the comment. Yep, 10,000 yen is $100! Here's a trick for finding out the denomination. Take the last two numbers away, and the number's you're left with is what the money is worth, in dollars! Um, I'm probably going to make another vlog soon.

If I reed it right. The 100 yen. Is from 1980 - 2009
The 5 yen is from 1920 - 1980
I think. But don't know the the next two numbers

Reading Japanese dates is pretty tricky. I'll PM you a site where you can learn about how to read them. Once you get it down, you're set.
Lets say that your coin shows this: 平 9. That's 1997.

So like 500 yen equals to $50 :)
