I fucking love the fact that I have one of the best recordings of this set out there. I can watch the video with the recording, it's so fucking sweet.
Yes - totally great. Dance musics only true genius? The old jungle stuff he does is sometimes tiresome. Would like to see him booked to do more techno/electro angled sets. Bored of Hawtin et al. And Mills is stuck in the 90s.
It's called Drop Suey (unofficial remix of System of a Down's Chop Suey), it is not known who the artist is. It is only available as a B-side to another bootleg song, Get The Fuck Up. Quite intriguing eh...
I think the set was brilliant, been listening to it on my ipod a lot. I love his own stuff as well but his mixes are so varied. Looking forward to seeing him next month, hope its not full of people shouting 'play come to daddy and windowlicker' constantly.

I was at the show and pretty disappointed too. I thought it would be a lot better. At least almost every other act in the Sahara tent were completely epic.
And i mean come on if you were perfectly capable of making new amazing electronic music to make peoples head spin and you choose to DJ instead, wouldn't that mean you were kind of over it?
For me personally its pretty clear and i think the only people who think hes 'extremely active' these days in the scene are just not paying any attention
too bad hes too lazy to play out his own stuff anymore. these dj sets he plays are just really beneath how talanted the guy is. but hes making money off of doing practically nothing, smart move on his part
rehashing? what do you call djing other peoples music?
id personally much rather hear him do NEW songs of his that arent released yet. Autechre just toured and their entire set was exclusive and unreleased new material by them.
and yeah ill say again if i was him and kind of done with the electronic music scene (which he clearly is) then i would probably not want to put the effort into playing out my own stuff and just dj other peoples instead. Its a hell of a lot easier and you cash a fat pay check for doing very little on stage.
Well, you gotta distinguish between "playing his own shit" and "creating new shit". It would be cool if he made a new album, but that is MUCH tougher and requires, you know, inspiration. As to "playing his own OLD shit" - it is EASIER than dj-ing, cause he can just put his own CD in the player and leave. And that would have NO value at all.
no he could DJ his own stuff on vinyl, which would be putting in the same amount of effort as hes doing here. OR what most electronic musicians do, play selections from their catalogue with live variations in the tracks, i would much prefer he do that because well i like Aphex alot more than what he likes to DJ. I am a huge aphex twin fan. And he also hasnt played out very much anything from Druqks, Analord ,Rushup Edge or Trough so i think people would love to hear those on a big system
what i dont understand is why on earth would you prefer Aphex plays out other peoples material if you are an aphex twin fan (which im assuming you are)? maybe you can answer that for me.
"what i dont understand is why on earth would you prefer Aphex plays out other peoples material if you are an aphex twin fan (which im assuming you are)?"
Because his musical TASTE is also unique, and his selection of stuff to play is interesting and enriching. I'm his huge fan, but I can listen to his albums at home - and slight live variations add less value than the new stuff he dropped on us at Coachella.
do some reading about what hes been up to lately, and frankly it hasnt been much. Hes playeda handfull of gigs in the last 3 years, the newest release he did was a 6 track Lp 'Rushup Edge' that while awesome was material dating back to 2004-5. He's also a father now and that is probably changing his priorities a little bit understandably.
he's a dad??? when did this happen? haha i remember i read in an interview and he mentioned possibly having kids and i thought that would never happen.
it was amazin, he started off just pressin buttons but like it started gettin better and better until it was the best ive ever heard. IT WAS INSANE!!!!!!!!!
It was so packed in there, I thought I was going to die. Definitely the highlight of the Sahara tent last weekend and a strong contender for highlight of the weekend!! Amazing.
i agree... the crowd was very weak through almost the whole thing... they showed a little energy at the end when it got insane, but still... pretty pathetic crowd.
obvious reason: a bunch of casual fans who had maybe heard of him, but very few diehard fans. and an LA crowd which is something that speaks for itself...
the crowd was so lam to many freaking hippies the aphex twins are to hard for some peoples ears, he should have been at ultra the crowd would have gone NUTS

It's a shame he only got to play for an hour, a 3 hour set would have been majestic.

So, RDJ is back to doing what he used to do before anyone had heard of him: DJing other peoples songs with kickass unreleased tracks thrown in.
