Why did he struggle? So he would have a broader perspective, he didn't lose his way. He found himself in the struggle. Those Christians that think they have to walk a straight line in order to go to heaven well they didn't take the journey to find any "real" answers. Those answers are nothing more than beliefs where as a man who struggles finds answers that he is craving. Weather they are true or not doesn't matter. They were tested in through strife and therefore more valid.

Cash, like the rest of us have struggled with our own sins, but God was faithful to bring him out of them all, not by what Cash did, but by what Jesus did for him and for us.

Didn't Johnny say he wore black to mourne the mistreatment of Mankind from those in power and said he would one day wear white when it either ended or at his funeral? I'm paraphrasing but I recall someone telling me this as a kid. I loved his variety show in the 70s because he had different acts from different genres. RIP Johnny.

Thank you sooo much for sharing this song. It reminds me of my preacher (later became my father in law) he would play this for us all the time. He passed away of bone marrow cancer ... I miss him everyday .... again, thanks for sharing this

Johnny could have sang the phone book and we would have loved it. But this song shows us that even though we make mistakes and do things maybe we shouldnt Jesus still loves us and cares for us. NO one is worthy of Gods love but He gives it freely we just have to accept it.

I'm not a religious man, but i LOVE Johnny Cash. I can hear him sing this, or any other song he has about his faith, and it still touches me. I just hate the fact you religious types rant and rave about your religion on a comment page of a man who made music anyone can enjoy.

@wapenspraak Anyone who tries to force it on you is missing the point. Its got to be your own choice. With the decline of Christians in the world, we will be back to what is was before... being Christian wasn't popular. I think that is why people beliefs are so strong where they are hated for knowing God.... their parents and other influences aren't forcing it on, them, and it is your choice.
Guys.... You can't make someone know God.... but you can show them your faith.

@wapenspraak So.. when a man sings about Jesus.. and people talk about religion.... there's a problem?? Why do you think Johnny sung about Jesus? For record deals?? I think where you get frustrated is the difference between "religion" and "faith". I'm not a "religious" man either, but I know my heart needs a big God to forgive everything I once did. Johnny sung about Faith in the Lord.. not religion. If you don't understand some of us fruit loops, don't bag on us.. try to understand.

Amen. It seems the Lord gave us an encouragement in the life and works of Cash. To remind us that his love is not dependant on how well we live our lives-though we should do our best; but that God's love, when he sets it upon you, can not be diminished. Cash, like the rest of us have struggled with our own sins, but God was faithful to bring him out of them all, not by what Cash did, but by what Jesus did for him and for us.

Johnny wasn't insincere. He walked a long road and did a lot of things, but this was sung for his (my) Lord Jesus. You can take that to the bank and anywhere else.

Jesus Christ was there in the beginning wih God, The Bible says; "That through The Word of God the world was spoken into existence". Well my friend Jesus Christ is The Word of God and not merely a man. Let tell you that without the shedding of blood there is no remission for sin, can I ask where are you assured of salvation in Islam?

@TheNono1982 Jesus said that if we know Him, we know his Father. He said that the Holy Spirit would remain with us to the end of the world. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are One. We humans find that hard to fathom. But Jesus said if we give our heart to Him, and believe that He came to die to pay for our sins, we would be with Him in heaven. He said there is no other way to Heaven, except through him. I respect your beliefs, but take some time to read the New Testiment of the Bible. Bless You
