What's hilarious, and almost sad, is that once the Wall came down, and we got a good look at unit readiness in the Warsaw Pact and Soviet forces... any conventional conflict in Western Europe would've been a slaughter in NATO's favor.
Not really bri4u2906 the f-15's and 16's were more than capable of taking on the mig-29's and su-27's the only problem would have been the mig-31'sbut i'm sure Nato would have the base with the 31's with sub fired Cruise missles or F-117's.
Plus the M1A1's and German Leopard 2's were far superior to the T-72's and T-80's plus their tanks would have been under heavy fire by Nato aircraft mostly close air support aircraft like the A-10 Warthog and attack helicopters like the AH-64 Apache.
Except they weren't far superior. We tested the ERA used by the soviet tanks at the time and the sabot ammo in use back then would have been unable to kill a T-72 equipped with the stuff at most ranges. And frankly, there's the little problem about the russians bringing their own aircraft and air defense and more and better integrated than anyone NATO or the US ever fought.
The problem is that the Soviets took that quote to heart, too. Compared to any western army, the amount of mobile anti-air the Sovs tended to bring is simply crazy. Not to mention that many of their systems were actually better than their western counterparts.
Thw whole thing was for mor evenly matched than anyone liked.
Squad level would be MANPADS, though these were normally platoon-level and almsot as widespread in western units.
What's the kicker are mechanised SAM and AAA units at regimental, sometimes even battalion level while western formations had these mostly at divisional level.
Super gut gemacht!!!!
Sogar die taktischen Angriffspläne des Ostblocks wurde mit einbezogen.
Gute Forschung und gutes Bildmaterial.

I dont think so mate, their tanks immune to out tank guns and atgw 's due to their ERA and their Migs SU 27s better than ours.

Equipment doesn't matter for a pile of shit when unit morale and cohesion is in the toilet. Would you please quit being the Red Army's butt boy?

@12magenta Sadly In the 80's Migs and SU's had better BVR and close in ability.

@12magenta See above comment, in the 1980's Nato 120mm couldnt penetrate Kontakt 5.

Yep yep, what Churchill said of how air power is wonderful if there is nothing to oppose it still holds true today.
