  • These Shows were really TALK SHOWS! Today's shows are nothing but PLUG SHOWS! Actors and Singers just come out to plug things!

  • What surprises me about these Dick Cavett videos is the naturalness and erudition of his guests. They simply talk, use a few polysyllables as required, and a fine evening is had by all.

  • Reminds me a bit of a middle age John Travolta in pulp fiction

  • Fabulous!!

  • I am hopelessly in love with this man and have been for years! He's older than my father now, but details, details.

  • He's a genius! He's a genius!

  • Jerry was a speed user at this time and it shows from his subtle irritability and lack of humor/can't laugh at himself.

  • @crimsontiderdotcom jerry did not use speed..that's obsurd. Smoked some weed, took perc for the excruciating pain of his chipped spine..yes, but with his level of energy to use speed would've killed him. Regardless, a more talented, intelligent and skilled human being has not walked this earth. Judge not lest ye be judged

  • @crimsontiderdotcom Hands down the dumbest comment on this page.

  • What an incredible performance. Skill, kids.

  • Would the people who have posted here who just LOVE Jerry, please sit at home and try not to mix with normal, sane people.

    Thank you.

  • Jerry Lewis, you do not have the brains of a ice cube.

I have a dog who will be talking better than you.

You are not just a person who have no brains, your ice cube brain be so small it will be melted before you can use it.

You are also a big ice cube of a phony. You a phony, Mister Jerry Lewis. That be what you are. You do not have an ice cube of a sincere bone within your body. Or anywheres else.

In closing I say, you be one stupid man, you ice cube head. Good bye four now .

  • @9162vb48 Why do you say those things? How much money have you given to charity? How much good have you done for mankind? Have you ever heard the proverb that a prophet is never accepted in his town of birth ... it means that a person who does a lot of good will be criticized by the people who are nearest to him because they are unable to look beyond his frailties and human weaknesses and focus on the big picture which is the overall good that they have done.

  • It's weird how some people just hate him. I think he will be one of those guys that people rave about after he dies. I just wish they would put out some of his later movies like The Big Mouth on DVD. Criterion Collection should do it but alas.

  • Class act

  • Gosh I love Jerry Lewis soooo much ! He not only is the creative genius of comedy and film but he looks sooooooo goooooood omggggggg he is fine and smoooooth omggggg I love him ♥

  • Was that Count Basie? I'll have to check the credits!

  • Jerry is comic genius!

  • I reckon this was around 1975.

  • In my opinion, Jerry's finest hour.

  • I always did think lewis was smart...I think he played a big role in producing and directing a lot of his films and know all the technical aspects of it.

  • Jerry kicks ass.

  • MissAdolpHitler1988

You have no idea who the real Jerry Lewis is.

For your information, I do, and it may sound borish to you, but there are thousands of people that got to know Jerry Lewis...He's one of the most arrogant, pompous assholes you will ever meet.

You better hope you never meet him. It will ruin your image of him.

    Talent is one thing.

Being a real person is another...

  • @DannyBruiz I have to say he does come across like your description. But I wouldn't think it is as simple as that, he's obviously a bit mad. Slightly sinister! Still think he's good though.

  • @DannyBruiz

    You are a fool

  • Anybody know the name of the song in the clip?

  • Lewis is great for kids, they can't relate to the real jerry Lewis yet..lucky them...I liked his movies too as a kid, no I cannot get over his overbearing smugg supercillious ego...vanitas...

  • @Dirkdebruyne and we don't need your boorish know nothing opinion.

  • @Dirkdebruyne Jerry is at his pompous best here. I never cared for his movies. Did like him in King of Comedy though.

  • I wish I could meet Jerry Lewis personally and tell him I love him.

  • The suit, the boots, the scarf, the cigarette, the hair - too cool! Very different era in terms of media outlets and coverage, as well.

  • The problem with Lewis, other than he just throws bits at you in his movies that are loosely connected, is that he over does the bit: Once he has made his point, whether funny or not, it keeps on going and going and going, even though it should have been over long ago. His ego cannot say, cut! His ego cannot say it is not any longer funny or brilliant, though it likely was not brilliant or funny at all. One watches Lewis, but one doesn't laugh.

  • @Novak67766 I think the biggest mistake you are making is to assume that your view or reaction represents that of most people, when it does not. Mr. Lewis is widely considered to be a comic genius, and he certainly has not done anything to invalidate that claim. He's also a humanitarian who has given more to charity than any other celebrity. I'm sorry that you do not like him or his style of humor, but trust me most people do. I say this kindly - don't be so critical and lighten up! :o)

  • What a gift he has given to the world!

  • @anatamaji laughter (and irony). though not necessarily in that order.

  • a very handsome genius

  • Jerry is simply the best!

  • Simply a genius!

  • GREAT GREAT comic

  • So that scene was complete improv?

  • Ok. I give, Lewis is a genius. Is that a Basie recording?

  • I know this has been said before, but at certain time Till Lindemann really resembles him.

  • Jerry is absolutely gorgeous here... He's always been good looking, one of the best ever, even when pulling faces...

  • Starts at 2:40 just so you all know :P

  • He looks fantastic here, and he's very articulate and intelligent! There must have been many to envy him, and we can see why.

  • Jerry rules!!

  • VERY INTELLIGENT MAN - Dear Mr. J Lewis is it a pleasure to meet you.

    Sincerely Yours' Roar75 August 2008

the host is a stupid head!

  • Unlike his former partner who never took himself seriously (and maybe should have more--or not LOL)I guess this is what partly killed Dean's connection to Jerry.

  • I agree with you.

  • @stopper1941 Yeah. In his book, Jerry said that when they first met, Dean seemed like the kind of guy who considered life one big joke.

  • This is still my fav interview of Jerrys, he is so handsome, so wonderful to listen to:) I can watch this over n' over. LOVE Jerry!!!

  • I wish Jerry was that age now.

  • I wish Jerry was that age forever!!!!!

  • @JerryLewisLover - lol Im sure Jerry does too..lol

  • @JerryLewisLover Damn age, I wish he looked like that now lol. But he's a cute litte old guy ♥

  • Nothing says "I'm a pompous ass" more than the cravate.

  • I think that Brando wore a cravate when he went on Cavett also.

  • The man shows he is so articulate, so intelligent, and most of all, the inventor of the device called the Hollywood assistant, the device that all filmmakers use these days, and all you can comment about is his cravatte (double t's, French word!)?? How shallow of you!!!! Are cravattes one of the main subjects in your vocabulary? What a pity.. there are more interesting subjects, you know... check the Webster...

  • Jerry's a genius.

I'd want my work to be perfect too.

    And shown perfect.

  • Jerry's always been a stickler for perfection...

  • damn, after that clip...wow...he wasn't pleased at all it seemed...lol.

"WOULD I PUT YOU ON DICK?" lol

  • Incidentally, Lewis was right to be pissed off about the clip being a fraction out of synch. That bit relies entirely on Lewis' perfect timing, so if the music isn't entirely in synch with his movements, then it doesn't work. The look on his face when it goes back to the interview is priceless.

  • Thanks for posting this - always wanted to see it. It was 90 minutes long was it not? So if you do have more, PLEASE post it. Thanks again.

  • thank you. is there more?

  • this interview is great, thanks for posting!
