The Republicans want to kill 45,000 people a year. They not only want to kill your Grandma, but your mother and sister and brother too.....or anyone else who the Big Insurance Death Panels decide to knock off when they get sick.
If Corporations do not have free speech then that means the New York Times, MSNBC and YouTube do not have free speech. Do you want the next George Bush regulating what the The New York Times can print, what Keith Olberman can say or what you can write on You Tube? Consitutional rights do not belong just to individuals. If they did then Church's would not have the right to religion, couples could be searched and I have no idea what the right to assembly would mean if you could only do it alone.
@meadbert This is not a free speech issue. The issue is whether we should let corporation spend as much money as they want toward campaigns. And if you don't want the rich having the most influence in our government, then you better say no.
Not sure what name they prefer but the corporate Oligarchs,Plutocrats Aristocrats...work in an extremely competative environment and having as many politicians in your pocket should be more than seriously frowned upon by a circumnavigated electorite ..
It should be absolutely ilegal just like the consitution says.
Keith Olbermann is the cherry on top of a scrumptious dessert! Looking at photos of him from his younger days, I think hes gotten more handsome. Forget People Magazines lame choice for sexiest man alive, KEITH OLBERMANN is my choice for SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!
@usaleftistsareidiots By that logic, your employer has the right to make any decisions regardless of the larger consequences to the general population, law or even civil rights as long as it is good for the corporation. All because you're employed by someone doesn't mean you have to agree with them on everything.
yay for freedom of speech. You don't think elections were bought off before. Before 80% came from lawyers and lobbyist now business has an opportunity to get pro business candidate in office. Time to get rid of these anti business pro big government goons outa there.

Nothing in what the Supreme Court did is going to lead to this. This is decision dealt with campaign financing. Free speech cannot be restricted simply because you do not like the group or company doing the speaking. This just illustrates how little faith liberals have in individual Americans to make up their own minds.
The worst decision was Roe V. Wade, not Dread Scott.
It's so frustrating to see some of these comments. DOES anyone know history anymore? This is basically a reversal from 1985. Our country isn't going to collapse. The only difference is that the liberal agenda will. For those of you who don't know, it will only be the "Progressive" agenda which is the farthest of the the left in collapse. The Dems, Repubs, and Indps, are fine. Well, actually the Dems are in trouble for supporting the extreme far left. This is why Keiths ratings are in the tank.
This case arose because the government stopped the broadcast of a documentary critical of Hillary Clinton. Repeat, the government CENSORED what people could watch. If it had been about John McCain, I'm sure people would be singing a diff tune. Free speech = free speech. Americans aren't idiots. Have some respect for the brains of your fellow citizens. Party of the common man? Or elitists?
To make a small bit of life out of all this, am I the only progressive relieved that Sotomayor voted with the liberals?
And from what I've seen so far in Supreme Court rulings, Sotomayor has been mostly voting with the liberals in the rulings since she's been appointed.
All that bellyaching about Sotomayor and doubt even on the progressive side that she would be too centrist... and we learn that she's so far has had a pretty good liberal track record.
The Supreme Court has now explicitly authorized the use of private money to secure control of government. Now there will be no conflicts among interest groups. The consensus views of the conservatives who have all the money and corporate control will be jammed down our throats.
Thanks Fixed. This has to be appealed. At those Republican inserts like Scalia, Thomas and Alito...are lower than shit. Fucking Republican Corporate whores like Reagan and his mob left their stinking scent all over this country like a skunk with rabies.
You're right. A hell of a lot of Dems are pissing me right off too. Tippy toeing around like a pack of chickenshit pussies afraid to legislate the changes that are so desperately needed by the people of the US.

America has called Alan Grayson back to the House this week....along with about 70 of his dumocrat colleagues...
Nancy Pelosi is reportedly puzzled by their reporting back to the office.
Later though, the issue was cleared up when the voters told the 70 LOUD & CLEAR "Clean out your desks you dirtbags!!!!" "YOU'RE FIRED !!!!!"
We are making YOUR political careers DIE QUICKLY !!!!!

@Castropher
The Supreme Court decision had nothing to do with donating money to campaigns. It was only about independant expenditures.
McCain-Feingold banned the criticism of politicians in the runup to elections.
This is just the sort of core political speech that the first amendment was designed to protect.

@seamoremonster Hey man.
Roberts, Kennedy, Alito, Scalia and Thomas voted YES.
Sotomayer, Stevens, Ginsburg and Breyer were the dissent.
This was a conservative/corporate takeover.
