Just glorious..... Undoubtedly there is stress and drama in producing such an amazing sound...but she didn't share any of that with us, she just sang!! What an exquisite instrument and artist...more, MORE!! Encore!
Man, I love Sumi Jo and the other girls, but something in Dessay's singing is unique. Only she can do this repertoire clean and perfect sounding like this. Her Lakmè, her Olympia, and now those Mozart arias... What's in this woman, dude?
Fantastic. Not to take anything away from Natalie, but no one ever pays attention to the poor oboe soloist in this aria. I have to say, he played his heart out here -- worthy of Dessay's incomparable singing -- and deserves at least some recognition.
I have never heard it more beautifully sung and there are several truly beautiful renditions recorded but this, for me, is gorgeous from start to finish. Thanks for posting. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Herr Mozart.
Somehow in my wild imaginings, I think that Dessay's version is perhaps the closest to how Aloysia Lange may have sounded. Such a perfection of sound, its own wind instrument. Mozart would be pleased.
translation:I want to explain to you, oh god which is my trouble but faith obliges me to cry and hush my heart can not burn for who seeks love and makes me seem cruel A barbaric due Ah, Count, depart, run, escape, far away from me your lover, Emilia awaits you do not make her cry, she is worthy of love Ah! mercy-less stars! you are my enemies! depart, run! of love do not speak! Her heart is yours!
Soberbia
Sour7lemon, can you get me the exact date of this concert? Please? Wow, Dessay really shows 'em how it's done. Lots of young opera singers think they have to do so much gesture/movement-wise - maybe in a fully staged opera, but in a concert/recital, all that's needed is the voice and face, as you see here...Dessay makes about 3 choices for arm/hand gestures, and that's enough - she is so involved otherwise that she can command while standing completely still but not stiff.
god that leap to the high D is sooo integrated never heard anything like that before in any other rendition of this aria! and that extra note at the end!
Pure heavenSuch a wonderful aria, such an awesome singer... people who attended this recital was VERY LUCKY... this is stuff that you can see few times in a century, no kidding. "Vorrei spiegarvi" and than "Popoli di Tessaglia", sang at such an immense level... I can't believe...
Like the singing, her high E is so unbelievably effortless. Too bad the orchestra isnt up to her level. They are about as sensitive as a dump truck the way they plow and hammer through this lovely Mozart.
Grande, Natalie. Para
you want to tell me that in that momment when she performed in this concert she was thinking that she's a singing actress?? with a voice like that? she's so great! what a perfect voice.... god bless her!
This is when Dessay was singing VERY well. BRAVA!Wonderful control, pitch, and vocal line. These days it's all about the acting with her (and that's fine), but this was fantatstic singing.
Dessay certainly is outstanding! If you want a good rival ,on this aria, hear Margaret Price from mid seventies with James Lockhart and the Philarmonia! You WONT Be dissapointed~
Justifica a preciosidade que é Mozart.
Santo Mozart!

Yes, indeed, to the good comment about the moving oboe soloist. Such a sweet and sensitive sound. I speak as an oboist.
