i love this old song and you do a great job of playing/ singing it.I agree with an earlier post ! you are better than most country stars today,..Sheryl from Tw2 Of A Kind
Ive spent many hours 20 feet up in a treestand in Mulenberg County, Some of the best deer hunting in the state, and the people over there treat you like their brother even if your a complete stranger.
i remember the first time i heard this song was when my new step dad sat down on the couch and started playing old songs and i thoght they we all out of class and stuff and then he played that one and i stayed up all night listening to him play
I love this song, I remember my dad playing it on his guitar for me when I was a little girl. Anyway, great job! Thanks for bringing back some good memories. :-)
My best friend of 31 years would always call me on my birthday and sing this song to me.
In Loving Memory of my best friend Dee Annette Smith she was born December 22, 1965 and was killed in a car wreck on March 28, 2009 I never imagined that I would have to go through the rest of my life without her. Truly I was blessed by God with her. She was a once in a lifetime friend and I miss her so much.
Now I fell in love with this song,,,,and I'm a black dude, dressed like a thug; city to heart,,,,,it took this song and living with the great people of Muhlenberg County, Ky. and Greenville Ky to change my way of living and seeing who others live..I was welcome with open arms by these people. no I wasn't in Job Core. I was sent there to live for 6 months with a family that had Confederate Flags everywhere in and out of there house. we got alone like family, no hate, no anger, just underst of both
Just an understanding of both life styles. ,,,I never seen grass so blue, Farmed, Groomed horses, as they say,," Go to town" usually on Saturday, Tractor rides,, HARD WORK but fun in the same sent. KY open my eyes up to life how to survive off the land a flash back in time. if my city lifestyle stops i got my country rearing to fall back on to keep me and my family glowing and going. Thank You Kentucky.
Where did this and other Paradise John Prine songs go to??? I was just learning how to play this song and needed the video to check on my strumming pattern. And now these videos are no longer available. What happened and how do I complain to YouTube?!
great song, great voice, but the wrong instrument... use a dulcmer... if you can play a guitar, a dulcimer is very easy... I can't give you props on the guitar and vocals... do it on the dulcimer, it will enhance your voice... thanks for keeping this song alive.
very nice. Great song, sad story. However, where would the county be now if not for the coal? Not so much the blasting that Peabody did that pisses me off, but the fact you can't go anywhere without seeing the no trespassing signs.
Nice job!!!, You have a very special voice. I found tyour clip by looking to check how the TAB I just wrote for the mountain dulcimer fits.... this is fun!
Once a month, we drive from Hancock to Greenville for the horse sale, this song pops in my head every time.

Peabody coal company. Typical American story of how business left unchecked rapes the land and the people unscrupuously for the almighty dollar.

Can you post a video on how you play this?
I'm having trouble getting the strumming and pull off/hammer on combination of this song.
Alternately, can anyone post a link to how to play this?
