The Public Option was only non-profit insurance. People could go to any Hospital they wanted. It would utilizes the capitalistic model of competition to bring down prices while improving quality. We have a Health Care crisis in this country. The public option will return.

So, the question remains, should healthcare be a "right"? No, not at all. Not without passing a constitutional amendment. Should healthcare be a community service? Like Police or Fire? Possibly...but it's arguable how efficient they are.

All I ask is before people buy into the anti-insurance rhetoric, they learn about about what insurance is, what it does, and how much money it really makes...

Then decide for yourself what you think is right. Single payer, private only? Your choice.

The only reason we have insurance, is because doctors complained that people couldn't afford the treatments they were demanding.

Since the majority of the cost of healthcare is centered on labor (as is the majority cost of any service/production based business, as someone needs to actually produce the result), the people they should be taking a closer look at are doctors, not insurance company executives.

But they don't. That's because it's not politically safe to attack doctors.

Well, the reality is, health insurance as set up is a bit silly. It's not pure insurance (which is designed to cover unforeseen catastrophic events), it's insurance plus a motor club program (like AAA) at best. Additionally, the cost center for national healthcare is controlled by the providers (meaning doctors and hospitals) and pharma (meaning the pharmaceutical development and distribution network).

Russellt0228 the problem is not allowing the free market to be free, competition is what takes care of "greed". Turn the competition to actuall consumer, no tax insentives to companies to buy your insurance, let the competition between states to start ( so far we have state monopolies)

Now here is how true free market takes care of "greed" Now If Jack sells bagels and charges say $5 per bag, Adam comes into the market and wants to sell same bagels, he looks at Joe and sees taht Joe is too greedy and overcharging his customers, in Order to sell his same bagels Adam sells them for now $4, and then the service improvment begins, and so on, that is my simplifyed version of how true free market takes care of greed.

There's nothing wrong with industries regulating themselves. It's the customers that set the standards and if you don't understand what I mean by this, I heartily recommend you check out John Stossel's segment on healthcare, it explains what's making insurance and healthcare services cost so much. The reform needs to come from you, not DC.

I was an abandoned single mother. I worked and struggled rather than go on welfare. I worked for small companies who did not cover my insurance. I lived in terror of either of us getting sick. I grew up in the military - the govt-supplied medicine the military received worked beautifully. I am now working with a woman who is helping her father sell his home to pay for his cancer treatments, as he has gone through all of his 401K savings after what his insurance covered. We do need change.

I think you're overlooking a key difference between Hitler and Obama, which is that Hitler believed in eugenics.

Tons of people have come to his support in hope of change that he campaigned for. He is enormously popular, and some people dont even know his policy. That is just one example of blind faith in a charismatic leader.

Obama will obviously be the Democrat candidate, so the real hope lies in the Republican party. The liberal media constantly tries to destroy this by putting forward THEIR names that they think Obama would likely defeat. And we don't need another Bush W equivalent, we need someone who will decrease the size of government and start paying back the debt rather than simply "cut" their budgets.

What we have here is a president who knew well how to gain power, but hasn't a clue how to make that power work for the good he said it would. A president who, attempts to ram unread legislation down the throats of the American public without proper debate. A president, whose greed for power was far more important a priority than taking the time to gain the actual experience good governance requires. And a president woefully intolerant of those who disagree with him on matters of policy.
