  • It is impossible to have a genius without some INSANITY.

  • pure art.

  • goodjob, airphuquingborne on that do you have any idea how we might get the original closing credits w/ napalm bombrun on kurtz's compound? copola recalled film after initial release and re-did closing cred w/o napalm (!)

  • 2 dislikes. Teriminate them with extreme prejudice...

  • This is one of the best movies I've seen. AWESOME!!! Freedom isn't free!!!! Never forget those in the trenches.

  • @heyokhey4565 I think the movie is about the insanity of war, not some 'rah-rah USA' bullshit

  • kösz!

  • Working on an essay about Marlow/Willard... man, this movie is the shit.

  • I've never seen or heard of this movie. What's it about?

  • @harvardyale1 bro its fkn brilliant. its a vietnam movie thats way over the top. like really exagerated in a way. everything iconic about vietnam is magnified. its brilliant but its not trying to be super accurate, its just really trippy, sureal. i heard it was alot of improv from the actors were just filmed talking shit for thousands of hours and then they edited it and made a story or something like that, its really artsy

  • @harvardyale1 it's about the psychological journey of combat. maybe the best movie ever made.

  • Nice piece of film history....thanks YouTube

  • They send young men to drop fire on people, but forbid the word 'fuck'on the aircraft because that is obscene.

  • I cut my hand worse than that a few times.Well, once, at least.

  • @7mikethebike and I didn't slump to the floor holding my hand up and wailing like a baby..

  • @7mikethebike of course, I wasn't drunk, either, and I wasn't psychically wounded by all the humans I murdered in a war.

  • @7mikethebike to each his own man, go kill some babies

  • @7mikethebike That wouldn't make it pro war. It's not even a "war" film. It's film about the morality in war. It's about a particular American Soldiers experience in Vietnam superimposed on the experience of an Anglo-Polish steamboat captain's view on the European colonialization of The Congo.

Something of a mess (like the war), it's ambiguous and judging the ending it's meant to be that way.

Ofcourse, you no one can help but feel the adrenaline rush of helicopters, bombs, guns and Wagner.

  • @7mikethebike "More people joined the army and marines after seeing thi movie than anything". Crap... Did any of those dumb idiots realized this is an anti-war movie?

  • @henriquedematos It is an antiwar film--the greatest.

  • @7mikethebike I'd like to see your statistics. Otherwise, it's just opinion.

  • @7mikethebike Yes because the Horrifying journey of man with no end in terror and finding a savage instinct that every human bears is clearly Pro War.

  • @7mikethebike You are the epitome of all that is wrong with america.

  • HA, YOU BLIND IDIOTS LEADING THE BLIND, "APOCALYPSE NOW" ACTUALLY WAS NOT ABOUT VIETNAM AND IT IS MORE THAN ANY OF YOU THINK, "APOCALYPSE NOW" IS NOW, RIGHT NOW, ITS ISIDE YOUR COMPUTER, ITS IN YOUR GOD DAMNED BEDROOMS, ITS IN THE FUCKING VATICAN AND ITS IN EVERY COURTHOUSE,! "APOCALYPSE NOW" IS IN THE GOD DAMNED VIBRATORS YOU WORTHLESS AMERICAN WOMEN USE.! "APOCALYPSE NOW", IT IS RIGHT NOW IN YOUR FUCKING BRAIN AND EATING YOU UP ALIVE.! ALL EARTHLY TEMPLES MUST BE AND WILL BE DESTROYED BY,!

  • @mjconnollyIII this movie is an adaptation from Heart of darkness, by joseph Conrad- a great african american author.

  • @mjconnollyIII You should calmly elaborate.

  • You could not keep the "diamond-piercing-genius" dialogue? Did not fit in with your theme?

  • @Theanchoritegarlic Man i have it in my final cut but i couldn't keep it when i uploaded it cuz youtube makes you keep it at 10 minutes....

  • Nice mash-up-artful use of audio. Kind of tickles the back of the brain. Well done. Did you do the stutter effect on frame? That is genius-very egdy. I think this is the finest Apocalypse mash-up I've ever seen.

  • @sbentjies Thanks ;) means allot homie

  • Nice mashup-artful use of audio. Kind of tickles the back of the brain. Well done. Did you do the stutter effect on frame? That is genius-very egdy

  • @starblazer64 You are very welcome, i listened to this version of the end for three days straight and decided to redux the opening and post it

  • Little do you killers know. it was originally a story that took place in Africa....

  • @hurklinz interesting..

  • @hurklinz Heart of Darkness ... Conrad.

  • @hurklinz and the mission was rescue, not terminate

  • @hurklinz Heart Of Darkness... Joseph Conrad

  • "They were going to make me a Major for this, and I wasn't even in their fucking Army anymore."

    - Capt. Willard

  • @Dunwyche.. Awesome editing, absolutely seamless. Thank you for this.

  • @cameronobscura22 Thanks for the comment my friend

  • @Czotie .. I'm an idiot. I gave @Dunwyche the credit for that. Sorry.

  • @cameronobscura22 I still got what you were saying darling dont beat yourself up ;)

  • @Czotie.. Aww shucks, sweet thang.. wish I had known that BEFORE I started wearing that hairshirt.. damn, these things are itchy!

  • Czotie u r a jihadists. this movie was not a anti-war movie just a movie u punk ass

  • @slapjax28 Dude... dude... duuuuuuddeee. ALAH AKBAR! lol

  • Martin Sheen's lines in this excerpt sound like what Charlie Sheen is saying on the talk shows today. "OH! The HORROR!" movie.

  • I don't think it is an anti-war film. It tries to make sense of what happened back then. The hypocrisy and so forth. Colonel Kurtz is who he is, after realizing what it takes to fight any kind of war, brutality. And they punish him for this by sending Captain Willard after him. If the U.S. really wanted to win the war they would have put some one like Colonel Kurtz in charge.

  • @AlexanderEBott Well, i just think the overall mood is anti-war. I mean shit EVERYONE goes crazy and eventually gets Tramatic Stress.. EVERYONE wants to be out of the war except Willard and Kurtz and thats only because they've gone so nuts they have to stay in the war. All the things that Kurtz says just makes you wish war didn't exist. To each his own i guess, i really would have to watch it again to make a full statement.

  • @Czotie All the things Kurtz says sound crazy because war is not by any means a normal state of the mind or a normal state of society. They haven't necessarily gone "nuts", they have just realized what it takes to defeat any enemy, i.e. "horror...", brutality, and so forth. After seeing that film, it didn't make me anti-war, it just made me think about how wars ought to be conducted. What is necessary is "moral" terror, and brutality, it is how one demoralizes the enemy.

  • @Czotie To be anti-war is to sanction your current enemies, and any future enemies, in whatever evil efforts they are trying to conduct. What the film teaches you is that it is necessary to define the enemy (why they are the enemy), and then put that knowledge to use by conducting military aggression onto anyone that directly or indirectly (i.e. passive civilians) that supports that enemy. This means war literally being a "hell on earth". It needs to be ended quickly and decisively.

  • @Czotie No sane solder 'wants' war. They train for it. They are prepared (as well as anyone can be prepared) for it. No one wants it though.

  • @kjdavey You would be surprised my friend

  • @AlexanderEBott i think its definitely anti war. the vietnam war in this movie looks like a poorly thought out plan that cost those involved in killing their link with civilization and their minds. its a common theme in history and so conrad's heart of darkness based in africa works just as well in the jungles of vietnam.

  • @hendy12 Of course it was a poor plan. The U.S. made it into a "limited" war. That doesn't mean that a war can never be conducted in a proper way. Why is it that most people's conception of war is that of someone riding on a white horse to save the day? There is nothing civil about war. War must be horribly brutal so as to demoralize the enemy. Kurtz just tried to apply this concept. A common theme in history is evasion, wrt war, it is mistaking it as some sort of pretty picture.

  • @AlexanderEBott i was commenting on Coppola's treatment of the Vietnam War in his film as a fiasco that is rotting the essences of all the characters involved not on my opinion about how to wage war. Kurtz in both Apoc Now and Heart of Darkness isn't trying to apply deftly use of violence as a tool of war, he has lost it and thinks he is a god. unfortunately he is intelligent and capable enough to get others to go along with his "horror" of dismembering people.

  • @hendy12 How is war not horrific? Put aside the notion of soldiers going around dismembering random people. Kurtz talked about horror and moral terror which was exhibited by, for example the vietcong (or I think pol pot's army). Both of which he witnessed working against them (the U.S.). He knows that the correct handling of both can win the war. Making sure the Vietnamese know that they will meet a certain death if they do not existentially and morally support our war efforts.

  • @AlexanderEBott Ok, here's an opinion about war. Lao Tzu says in "The Art of War," being on the moral highground is one of the major keys to winning. The cong attacking their own people, which did happen, almost certainly backfired on them at the time. it would hurt troop morale as well as lose the support of the locals they were trying to enlist. lots of examples of this not working: libya, egypt being the most recent. russia in afghanistan many years ago as well.

  • @hendy12 I don't know what coppola's vision was for the meaning of the movie. I do know he portrayed the war as very chaotic and uncoordinated. I would even say unfocused. No one except for Kurtz and maybe Willard have actual aims to win the war. Everybody else is just "doing their job", unconscious of whether what they are doing is part of an integrated strategy to win the war. Nobody seems to want to identify the enemy as communism; systematically, militarily and morally attack that enemy.

  • @AlexanderEBott sorry, abott, no disrespect, but i think you are missing the point of kurtz' role in the book/movie. he is not an expert at winning war, but a tragic figure who has lost his soul because of war. "the horror, the horror" is one of the most famous lines in literature for this reason.

  • this scene was so trippy.

  • one of my faborites war films. and the song of the doors is.....

  • WHAT MAKES FOR A MOVIE CLASIC IS WHEN THE ETERNAL IS BLENDED WITH THE TEMPORAL, WITH 'TIME" SEAMLESSLY, JIM MORRISON COMBINED WITH THE ETERNAL OF APOCALYPSE NOW OR "REVELATION NOW" MAKES THE MOVIE APOCALYPSE NOW A CLASSIC STANDING ABOVE THE CLASSICS IN A LAND ALL ITS OWN...!!!

I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS IN SPECIAL FORCES., I CRIED, I WEPT, I WANTED TO PULL MY TEETH OUT..!!! I HAVE SINCE READ ALL OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION, THE APOCALYPSE, I UNDERSTAND NOW, "THE END...!!!"..., SO BE IT..!!!

  • I have to say that was probably one of the best alterations of a film I have ever seen. You did a very great job. It actually would have been cool if the whole movie was done in a flashback. I don't mean one big flashback I mean like how Into The Wild did. Like the present time would be in Col. Kurtz's temple and the scenes where Willard is going up the river to the temple were all flashbacks, but it went back and fourth between timelines. In fact I;m gonna try that now and see how it is.

  • @Cam1Deathsnake DUDE, YOUR ONTO SOMETHING BIG BRO, DO A REMAKE OF APOCALYPSE NOW, COOK UP A SCRIPT, USE THE INTERNET TO NETWORK, CONTACT PRODUCERS AND DIRECTORS, STUDIOS, PUT SOME RUBBER TO THE ROAD, MAKE UP SOME BEEF JERKY AND HIT IT HARD BROTHER, SLEEP LITTLE AND WORK HARD, THE REAL GOD IS IN AND BEHIND YOUR IDEA, BE A RANGER DUDE, CARY ONLY AMMO AND WATER, EAT BUGS, GO, DO IT MAN, YOU ARE ON A MISSION OF TRUTH IN TIME YET BEYOND IT...!!! HOLLYWOOD WAS MADE FROM IDEAS, STILL SOME KNOW...!!

  • @mjconnollyIII I don't mean to bash your compliment, if I do, but you may have misunderstood my comment. Or I might have misworded it. I didn't mean that I was going to write a script and remake the movie, I ment that I was going to capture the whole movie into my computer and then re-orchestrate the timeline and have the presents time be at Col. Kurtz's temple and and it would switch through the present and flashbacks of Willard on his journey to find Kurtz. Thats what I ment.

  • @mjconnollyIII Shouting is for assholes and trolls.

    D~

  • Your an Assassin sent by grocery clerks. lol

  • Fucking excellent.

  • Watch the hurt Locker its kind of like this

  • I just saw this for the 1st time yesterday...Greatest movie about War i have ever seen

  • This is also one of my favorite war films. (I'm also a fan of Joseph Conrad - read End of a Tether) I love the alteration! That adds a lot to it I think. Thanke for the post!
