  • This song makes me want to join choir.

  • 0_0

  • Such an amazing piece, however, I'd have like it more if there was more of an influx in tempo to express the emotional attachment to the song.

  • Gets me every time

  • WHO COULD DISLIKE THIS!!!

  • @5Fan5 the four dislikes are Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, because they are jealous, and Eric Whitacre himself, because he is modest.

  • Death and Rebirth. Repeat, and you get the magnificence of this song. :D

  • This deserves choir and orchestra together!

  • we're playing this w/ choir, orchestra, and band at school for our big holliday concert :)

  • immediate chills

  • I did this in high school!!!! I love this song!!!!! :D

  • The dissonance at 0:40 gives me chills. Every. Single. Time.

  • Actually, scratch that, it doesn't sound better than heaven. . .

  • 2 people are obviously holding their computers upside down

  • My band director played this for us before our biggest performance this year...It was my best run of the show and now I love this

  • Actually, the vast majority of works that Eric does start as choral music, and because their setup is so compatible, it's then arranged for bands and wind symphonies.

  • I guess 2 people are going to hell

  • Extremely beautiful... however this group has balance issues throughout... barely any tenor and way too much soprano (this is coming from a bass that sings in Nebraska Wesleyan University's main choir). What do other people think?

  • This is what the saints will be singing to summon Christ out of the mist after the last battle...

  • To think this is the same man who composed Godzilla Eats Las Vegas. My mind was blown.

  • Try to type this on the Youtube search box this and please comment :

SBP WOC Prelimineries 2011 - Sekolah Dato Abdul Razak - Golden Festival Overture

  • :53 - 1:13 it sounds like they're saying "coffee's quick"

  • @RokGrlBand Haha it does! I never noticed that til now!

  • Anybody know what choir this is? It can't be Polyphony...

  • @CharlieBladeRemus

It sounds very much like the St. Olaf Choir from Minnesota

  • @CharlieBladeRemus BYU Singers did a cd with the complete works of Eric Whitacre a while back. This sounds a lot like that recording. I think they sing them better than Polyphony...

  • @davidstephenson8 I agree that BYU sounds better than Polyphony. Polyphony sounds okay, but they're a relatively small group, and IDK if BYU is bigger than them, but Whitacre's works, in my opinion, sound much better when a nice big choir sings them (i.e., BYU's rendition of "When David Heard" sounds SO much better than Polyphony's)

  • two people don't know what music truly is

  • i heard this song when i was in elementary. Im in high school now and im so happy i found it again. I didnt know its name then. a truly beautiful piece.

  • when i die and go to heaven i want this to be playing

  • the college ensemble i sing with got to perform this in a variety of cathedrals in italy a year ago. the echo from the domes combined with the sheer brilliance of eric whitacre's music was indescribable. i can't even explain how amazing it felt singing this.

  • we played this in marching band last year. it was really fun! plus really easy to march ;)

  • This piece works perfectly in the next Narnia movie... @ )

  • @juancho661 Is it in the movie?

  • who the hell dislikes this?????

  • Lovelovelove... times a million! All-State Reading choir in FL sang that <3

  • this is absolutely amazing ...super relaxing!!!!

  • the soloist was wonderful...

(as was the rest of the song, of course :)

  • speechless.

  • i love this song i sang it for the christmas concert and by far it was my favorite!

  • Oh sweet dissonance, will you ever cease to amaze me?

  • This is my favorite Choral piece of Eric Whitacre's!♥♥♥

  • such a beautiful sound.

thank god that i can hear

  • beautiful !!!

  • i have played the band version of this piece all four years of high school...this makes me cry everytime i listen to it

  • 0 dislikers that's awesome!!!!!

  • Hope this is what Heaven sounds like.

  • @sandtigerzero Funny that you say that... He wrote this piece as his own interpretation of the angels singing when Jesus was born.

  • @sandtigerzero Oh believe me. It sounds BETTER.

  • you happen to have almost every song i have ever played in middle school and high school band :) i must say this is one of my favorites!

  • So beautiful. I don't know if I want to cry or sleep or what.

  • It's amazing, my marching band is playing this as our closer this year, I can't wait, it's going to be beautiful.

    It's such an amazing song<333

  • @XxKelseyHeartbreakxX :) Kelsey :)

  • @XxKelseyHeartbreakxX No way, mine is too <3

  • My Wind Symphony is going to play this this semester. I just received the music. I'm sad, because, like "Sleep," the oboe part is tragically short. Still, I don't think I can get too upset, since this song is too awe-inspiring to dislike just because I have to sit and listen for a good portion instead of getting to play. XD

  • I think the Virtual Choir actually surpassed this recording, unless they perfected the final sound for the VC version. Still, quite an awesome choir (for this piece), and a beautiful song.

  • The band I'm playing in is playing this this year, I'm second clarinet. Its so pretty...

  • great piece of music, too bad ive only heard 1 good recording of it...

  • i cry every time i hear this piece. its beautiful~~

  • Wow, this song really makes your imagination travel places it's never been before. Mr. Whitacre has made some really phenomenal music!

  • Does it have to be so short? I love it...

  • @RaspaChango Exactly what Whitacre wants you to feel. Wanting more.

  • i love how u can hear more men in this one than in the polyphony recording, it really makes the "calida" chords ring so much better

too bad the little boys in cambridge dont have the high notes like the sopranos here, otherwise im sure it would probably be the best performance

oh well, they are all amazing so yea :)

  • @ ladysquier - Whitacre generally works with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

  • So minimalistic in a sense yet so powerful. Well done, Whitacre.

  • I've played the wind ensemble version of this. One of the most beautiful pieces I've ever played! The feeling while performing this was indescribable.

  • @Butterz8 my band is playing this now and its such an amazing feeling just by hearing it and playing it. Its a beautiful piece.

  • @Butterz8 Same man, I'm lucky enough to get the opputunity to play it this year for a short recording my director needs to submit of himself conducting..

  • @Butterz8

yeah i played it my sophomore year and it was amazing. difficult at times though for sure

  • @Butterz8 when you sing it, you get the same feeling...totally indescribable<3

  • @Butterz8 I played it last year too :) It was amazing, I loved playing it.

  • We had sang this song in choir. It is such a beautiful song.

  • I absolutely love this song. Eric Whitacre is an incredible composer. We played this song in my symphonic band last year. No fun for the percussionists, but it was still amazing to listen to.

  • what choir is this?

  • @ladysquier: I believe this performance is by the BYU Singers.
