Is there a difference between vegetables glycerin and just Glycerine? coz I hav a bottle labelled Glycerine that I got from the pharmacy but I am not sure if its the same thing. plz answer..nice video :)
@rabbaniyah Yes, I believe there is. One is a more of a waxy substance, while the other, the vegetable glycerin, is a clear, almost syrupy, liquid. I believe the waxy-type glycerin from the pharmacy is generally not taken.....orally. Meaning, well, you know what I mean. LOL The vegetable glycerin is positively not for....you know. :)
Hey! I was told that glycerin is not a good idea for paste because of residue? what's your thoughts on that, I have a huge jug for my soap and lotion recipes, and also read that food grade coconut oil makes a lovely creamy paste too, but I wasn't sure about that leaving a residue on teeth and if it would cause adverse effects? I have spearmint essential oil for the wee one, its mild enough for her to handle :) need stevia though, I tried to grow some but it flopped , next year I will try again.
VC-- That's awesome, growing Stevia!! Let me know how it turns out, next growing attempt. I'd love to get a handle on doing my own lotions and body soaps, though. I've been buying this organic chamomile bar soap from the healthfood co-op, and it's great, but I'd still like to learn about making my own. Shampoo/cond- I'm using baking soda paste for shampoo, and cider vinegar-rosemary-raspberry tea (a drop of sandalwood oil) for my cond. LOVE it. After 2 weeks, my hair has been reborn! lol
@icependnende Okay, so I just read this article. There is nothing about glycerin, (organic or not) being bad for you, let alone using it to make your own healthy, homemade toothpaste. On the contrary, the items I use in this recipe are all healthy and non-harmful to us. An infant could "discover" the tupperware bowl of this stuff and gorge themselves on it without harm. I even brush the dog's teeth with it without concern. There are other things mentioned there, but nothing in this recipe.
HAHA Yes, he was getting a few things around for work the night I made this video. He just watched it again with me to see what he was reconnoitering. LOL ;)
I just use a standard Glad "tupperware" style food storage container, and it sits on the bathroom counter in the corner. Doesn't need refrigeration or anything. Just mix it up a little bit every other day or so.
I just looked it up and read the ingredients. Lots of good stuff! It has Stevia in it, and the glycerin too, so we're talking the same basics here. Cool to know! A lot of the other ingredients in the JPS are just extras that you could get and throw into your own batch, as they're simply natural extracts. Let me know if and when you do it. Love to see what variations and methods you used!
Is it for your dog??

Glycerin is not good to use in toothpaste.
see the article Is your toothpaste really natural? Search for that in the search area at Mercola . com

Hey! Neat idea! Does the paste get all foamy in your mouth like regular toothpaste? If not, I'd sure like to try it!
I switched to baking soda years ago because I hated that 'foamy' characteristic...
hunt1803 2 years ago
No, it does not. Not at all. One of the things I liked about it. :)
