Only joking..in all fairness, he may have had a wee bump in the head, looked at his top and thought he was playing for Glasgow Rangers against the Celtic !!
Brilliant post. But I concur with the juxtaposition of the marshal imagery to what is (as correctly pointed out by Gweltas1) a Greek folk song. The Dublin band Shamrog (Jury's caberet) also do a wonderful version of "Siege of a Nation" with the late Roddy Monks on long whistle. I'll try to upload a copy soon.
GOOD video. But I think the boys would be dissapointed it's been put to picture's of The Troubles... I've met Eddie & George a few times & I know that they pride themselves on being impartial, not wanting to let polotics ruin their music. BUT saying that I PERSONALLY think this is an exellant song that captures the meaning of The Troubles! Siege Of A Nation indeed!!!
Thanks for the comment. I would have to say in my defence that the music inspires remembering everything that has gone wrong in Ireland and the seige we have put up with for 800 hundred years.
May I point out that "Seige of a Nation", played here by the Furies, was in fact composed by the brilliant Greek Composer, Mikis Theodorakis, and it is credited as such on their album, so while it has been juxtaposed here with images of the "Irish Troubles" it actually pertains to Greece, not Ireland! However, it certainly resonates with any nation that has endured a troubled history.
I think it fits perfectly with Ireland also becuase thay say Ireland and its people have have a closer affilation with people from countries in southern Europe, like Spain and Greece.
@Gweltas1 It applys to Ireland as well when the British stole all their land, all their food, killed women, children,it applys to Greece its about a Greek island the Turks invaded,it all so applys to Cyprus when the turks invaded Cyprus in 1974,the Bristish & the Jews are to blame for this as they put them there, the bristish made turks police,a lot of Greeks were hung by the Bristish So Irish & Greeks have alot in common as they both had bad things happen to them.
@hippy1470 Well said. It's time for everyone to embrace the new POLITICAL solution, democratically accepted by a clear majority of people in the North on ALL sides of the divide.
I hope that's the last time we see images like this ever again..
