mm..I think the tones are completely useless when they put sentences together, I only hear the intonation. When words are isolated, that's when the tones make sense to me..
Hello guys. I am trying to learn Mandarin, but at this point I need some help. Those of you who are fluent in both Chinese and English can you help me to translate something. What does "ge, ni tai shuai le" mean? Please provide the best translation in English possible. thank you.
One of the Vice Principals of the University of Dundee, Professor James Calderhead, had on at least two occasions referred to an ethnic Chinese lecturer at the University, Dr. Janet Liao, as a "Chink." If that isn't racist, I don't know what is. There are plenty more people like James Calderhead in Dundee. AVOID this university if you are Asian.
There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist.
Counting from 1 to 10 in ancient Chinese 3000 years ago: qlig means one njis means two suum means three hljids means four ngaa means five rug means six snhid means seven preed means eight gu means nine gjub means ten
So the word to negate something is 'bu shi'...almost sounds like "bull$hit", which makes total sense. This is gonna be an awesome language to learn; I already love it! :)
I thought Chinese would be alot harder to learn because everyone in America says it's the hardest lanquage. But it you break the sentances down and remember key words then any language is easy to understand! I'm so happy, I've learned to introduce myself in mins.!
Are you keen to learn Mandarin? Do you have difficulty in memorizing or writing Chinese Characters?
Try to learn Chinese with iPhone/iPad application -- EZ Mandarin, you will find an easy way to understand Chinese, and learn how to write Chinese character in 5 minutes.
Wow. I've barely spoken Chinese before (Starting to learn so I can talk to my friends parents) but I was able to speak right along with Mark!!! I am Japanese profient, so the kanji with different meanings was cool XD I am a teenager, and this is so cool.
by your handle you're azn at least, but you don't see the value of this video? it's a very simple introductory dialogue, you probably could do it after week 1 or 2 of your language class.
That's because Chinese is tonal ;), one word can have many meanings depending on the tone it is pronounced it. However Japanese and Italian are toneless, they could be spoken in a completely monotone voice and be understood.
yeah imagine what if you have to yell but you are in big danger and you are chinese and you say: SHÜ exept of Shöü, and it has already like 40 meaning, but while you are in danger and you run and yell words sound tottally different
same goes when you whisper its just a fucked up thing
I totally agree with Lamnont. This is why I chose Chinese. I wanted to know a language that was in no way NEAR my language. I would have to humble myself and learn something I have no preconceived knowledge about.
I think this is the hidden reason why Americans like myself pick up Chinese. Well, that and for my PhD. But, seriously, it's for the women (shhh, don't tell)
@nitsujj2007 so its kinda like the same? because i feel like i can learn Chinese a little better than Japanese, ( i am Mexican-american, i speak English, && Spanish, but i speak English wayyy better than Spanish lol)
@nitsujj2007 for a half japanese like me who know only half of the kanji, it's hard to learn chinese xD tho i can guess a bit the meaning of the phrase... but the pronouciation xD god it's hard >.>''
@nitsujj2007 pointless superfluos comment. Whats funny about that. There are maybe 10 languages in China that are not mutally intelligible. They also use the same characters, so what?
i like this, but i am currently learning Japanese, after I am ok with my Japanese i think i'll go for Chinese it seems fun...all the pronunciations...plus i'll finally be able to tell off those rude owners of that chinese food place near me...
Japanese is vastly easier than Chinese. I tried learning Chinese and got completely stumped with tones and pronunciations. I managed to learn Japanese in a few months to communicate reasonably well in casual situations like paying bills, making reservations, ordering a taxi and asking basic questions around shops, trains and tourist attractions.
No, it isn't, Chinese is a LOT more easier when it comes to grammar because it's flexible and in general easier than Japanese grammar. Sure the tones seem difficult if you don't even attempt them but after a few weeks I had no trouble with them. Japanese is really hard to read correctly (out loud especially) I would much rather learn a few tones and than study Japanese because its grammar is too structured.
I totally agree LexanBecker777 I'm on week 6 in my mandarin chinese lessons and I can understand basic chinese now! the first 3 weeks were HELL but I had faith in my brain's ability to learn and pick up new stuff. So now I'm cool with it.
That depends what comes easiest. Japanese's grammar is somewhat more difficult (though quite easy), but Mandarin pronunciation (and syntax...) can be a hell upon earth.
Actualy it what languges are eisier, and harder depends greatly on the simularities between that lingo, and the ones you know. So if you speak spanish, than italien is easy.
i dont know its a joke people are putting on the internet form the game skyrim

nope, whispering, shouting, singing, none of it affects the tone. It's more like what part of the word you put emphasis on.

Chinese is slightly harder, becuz there are
reminders on the top of the words. These
words sound low, even, up and high. Japanese
words have one reminder like even or say quick, but also have many words for the same
meaning, so u have to remember all these words.
