Absolutely Beautiful performance. What a great voice, used to perfection. Touches the heart strings. See also Pfizerpfonics performance of Scotland's great song, The Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. Thanks for posting this gem.

So let me get this straight, this man lost his hearing, got a cochlear implant, and can no longer sing because of aforementioned deafness?!? Why would anyone, let alone God, still a beautiful voice such as this?!?? No sense whatsoever. This is too amazing. :-'(
@ktrum492 It really was one of the most beautiful voices ever. I agree, it makes no sense that this voice was stilled. If you don't know about his other recordings, many of them are on YT. He really was a versatile performer. He was mainly an opera and classical singer, but he sang pop, folk, and Broadway, and sang them all gorgeously. He is the performer who shows that there is an opera singer who can sing crossover material and sing it in the correct styles. He was brilliant.
Hard to think that within less than 10 years this lovely voice would be stilled, as its owner gradually became deaf. Sometimes I think that God -- if there is a god -- has a very cruel sense of humor.
@hughmackie I feel the same way. Luxon is my favorite baritone, and I feel such sadness that his voice was stilled way too early. I treasure every recording of his that exists.
@hughmackie It's things like Luxon's deafness that makes people doubt the existence of God. What's the point of robbing this man of his voice...and of robbing the world of the joy of listening to him?
@arpeggio1358 Yes, but one could also say that the existence of that beautiful voice in the first place was an argument for the existence of God. Beauty, like life itself, is fleetingly transitory. Memento mori.
Glad you enjoyed it. Since you seem to like Renee Fleming as well, I posted a powerful performance of Amazing Grace she gave at the World Trade Center a month after 9/11.
@stevevandien I think it was titled "Two Gentleman Folk." The other gent, of course, was the American folk musician Bill Crofut -- the additional instrumentalists were excellent, but I don't recall their names, damme:) --
Excellent

Yes, it was back in 1983.
I was surprised it had not made it to YouTube yet, so I decided to post it.
The other musicians:

Carver Blanchard - Guitar, Lute
Chris Brubeck - Bass, Trombone
Maggie Holtzberg - Violin
Robert Levine - Guitar
Yehudi Wyner - Piano

I saw this concert on PBS some -- sheez, when was it recorded and telecast? In 1985, right? At any rate, I loved it:)
