You should also be careful of TSS (toxic shock syndrome). if you don't change the tampon after 8 hours you can get very ill and possibly die... if you like to sleep for long periods of time a pad is the safest to use, as far as health goes.

my fam is split about whether to wear pads or tampons. the women on my dads side all think its better for your body to wear pads because it is more natural to just let it flow...lol. but my mom would tell me its dumb to wear pads in the summer because then you cant go swimming or play in the spinklers. after growing up i wear tampons most of the time, but if i start getting cramps too bad then i switch to pads, and it helps.

Tampons leave fibers behind and use chemicals to bleach them white. I hate them! I use a medical grade silicone menstrual cup. No mess. No TSS. No changing your plug every 4 hours. Screw that! For 12 hours I don't have to worry or even think about my period. It's like it never came! I love it!

P.S If a kid has to ask a YT guru how to use a tampon there is something wrong in Denmark, Dude. They need to ask someone they know. Friend, Teacher, Aunt, or a friends Mom. NOT a snarky (but funny) guru.

Girls you have to be careful of TSS. Toxic shock syndrome. Look it up. Use a combination of pads and tampons. This greatly reduces the risk of TSS.

Cardboard applicators are the worst applicators for tampons. I use Tampax Compact with Pearl. The applicators are made of smooth plastic and are ALOT easier to put in AND they are half the size of the regular tampons, but just as useful. They fit in the palm of your hand.. it's like they are collapsible and much easier to conceal.

They are absolutely horrible for the environment and honestly, there is barely a difference between cardboard and plastic. Even if the difference seems that big to someone, it's hardly justifiable to damage our ecosystem over.  I personally think they should be banned.

As an aside, go with the cheap stuff! It's all the same and look what you're doing with it. You don't need name brand.

your not gonna lose ur virginity or break ur hymen while using tampons. use the right size and don't be shoving baseball bat sized ones up there. o.b. has very small comfy ones and so does playtex. very small and discreet. the way u know u inserted it right is you won't feel it and if u feel it up there start over. change it max after every 4 hrs. 5 is max bc full 8 is just gross.

Personally, I like tampons so much more than pads. I wasn't allowed to use them until high school though, because my mom was afraid I was going to get TSS. Pads are annoying though because not only are you 'sitting in your own blood,' but you have to clean yourself up afterwards. With tampons, you just take it out and throw it away. And plastic is better for me, 'cause it goes it easier.

I know a lot of people are laughing at this video, but I actually really like it. For young girls who are just starting their periods, and may be a little shy to ask their mom how tampons work, this is actually really informative. So thumbs up to you for making a video on this slightly ackward (for some) subject.

I got my period in fifth grade (I was ten, I think), and I told my mom right away, because I kinda freaked, but yeah.
