I heard this tune on my iPhone as a standard ringtone, and went looking for the original. Searched very long, and now I found it! And you played it very well! Thanks for sharing!
@SEVENTHSON89 Hello, that is correct. Petzold composed it. Bach, his wife and his children made a beautiful empty book for music. They filled it with many pieces by Bach but also pieces by other composers. But they were not labelled with the name of the composers. The book was just a place to store favorite smaller teaching pieces. Unless a piece was formally published (rare and expensive because metal plates had to be engreaved)- all other pieces were hand copied from teacher to student.
I personally think Anna Magdalena wrote this minuet and a few other peices thought to be written by bach. if you think about it bachs family was verry musical. no doubt his wife was either. after all she could read, sing, write and play muisc back then ladys were ment to get married have a family and run the household. they did not have careers. so i think anna wrote this peice and kept it a secret and made it sound like bach wrote it. it is also possible she wrote the 6 cello suites.
wonderfull! You also happen to play it with the modifications i personally prefer! Also this minuet sounds so perfectly nice on Harpsichord! Good job :)
@Enix5548 Hello. The instrument was tuned by me, quite accurately, just before making the recording. The temperament is not equal as on the piano. It was either tuned to Valotti or perhaps Kellner.
@SFChristo Have you looked at Bach's well temperament? Apparently there are introductions that Bach left that allowed a person to tune to his temperament of choice. These instructions are on some websites as well as on youtube (from what I can remember).
@Enix5548 Hello. I've looked into it. Bradley Lehman is behind that interpretation. I hear that it is wonderful. He even sent me instructions on how to do it. But I have yet to try it myself. -- I live in a climate controlled house with electricity, if the temp or humidity changes just a little bit, the harpsichords change their tuning. This throws off any exact temperament. Imagine uneven heat, high humidity and wood fireplaces in Bach's time. Unheated churches, etc.
I was curious as to what the Valotti and Kellner temperaments were. I had known about the 1/4-comma and 1/6-comma temperaments, but not about the more complex ones. In the resulting web search, I came across a site listing a large number of these historic temperaments, with a pointer to Dr. Lehman's research! So your video has led to some fascinating reading for me.
@Enix5548 (part II) This means that one could set a temperament and then a few minutes later its not precise anymore. Basically all major 10ths sounded wretched to me in equal temp (on harpsi). Almost any well temp. works to eliminate that. The Well Temp. Clavier was not intended to be played all at one setting. The first book was put together from pieces he had written over a period of time.-- Notice that the suites maintain their main key for each mov't. That was FAR more typical writing.
@Enix5548 (part III) I have yet to hear a good temperament for the fugue in B major from WTC I. When I record it I'm going to retune the instrument as bass the well tempered tuning around B instead of C. (on the advice I have gotten after consulting with several organists and harpsichordists). It is easy to retune and harpsichordists did that all the time to make the temp needed as sweet as possible. -- these are some of my thoughts. Thanks for your interest.
@Enix5548 Well, it was easy to hear it's not modern tuning. xD But Cembalos are from a time when the tuning we use now wasn't invented, so it should be left that way, I think. :)
@1811FranzLiszt Perhaps, I don't have the Urtext or a manuscript copy. In any case, ornaments are always optional and in fact the idea is to add your own spontaneously each time you play the piece. They are not fixed.
@ruthavega Hello. Hmmm, I tried but I can't hear the kluk. Perhaps its the sound of the plectrum (little guitar pick) coming back down after I let go of the key or its a little action/key noise or when the jack hits the wooden felt covered jack rail.
@ruthavega I just put up a video where I am playing some small pieces by Bartok on the pipe organ. Would you please do me a favor and listen to that and tell me if you are hearing the same type of sounds?
Hello, lovely playing. From english wikipedia: Selected work by Christian Petzold: Vocal Cantata Meine Seufzer, meine Klagen Ensemble Three trio sonatas Two partitas for viola d'amore Solo instrumental Recueil de 25 concerts pour le clavecin (1729), 25 harpsichord pieces Orgeltabulatur (1704), chorale settings for organ 11 fugues for organ or harpsichord A suite and single pieces for harpsichord He was a composer and organist in Dresden. Search him wiki!

So much has rarely been written into so few notes . . . this minuet loses no charm no matter how often I hear it.

@thegrayplace Just recently I started using a tuning (mean-tone) that takes me back 400(!) years. Hope to put up some videos of that soon.
