And remember: Abraham Lincoln wasn't qualified to be President. After all, he only had a few years as a Senator from Illinois; he had zero executive experience. Same goes for John F. Kennedy. Bush was eminently qualified, since he had been governor, twice. He is also widely regarded as one of the worst Presidents in US history.

I think Palin was on McCain's radar well before Hillary did not get VP for 2 reasons. 1) McCain is running on a reform ideology and she is the only canidate to actually stand up to corruption let alone her own party. and 2) she knows more about energy then anyone else.
