Marcus can be a good character if you don't over-use him, but stat-wise, he's overshadowed by many of the other characters you come across. Making Kent or Sain a paladin usually results in a far superior Paladin, for example.

Seth isn't quite as bad. His stats might not stack up that well against Marcus, but his personality is alot more agreeable and he feels less broken than Marcus does at the start, to me anyway.

I also learnt from this game so I didn't use purely Seth straight from the start when I starting playing properly. I usually use Seth for only one fight against one of the Fighters in the intro chapter. And sometimes I don't even use him, I just use Eirika and have her camp out in the forest and wait for the boss to come to her.

@ShadowdaHedgie11 Chances are that you never got through FE8 just by using Seth because you haven't been using him to his fullest potential. Heck, I can even think of general FE8 unit usefulness discussions that exclude talking about him because of how good he is in-game. The only map where he'll be slowed down that I can think of is the desert map, but otherwise, he's tops.

Ephraim is basically the only one in the game who can become stronger than Seth actually, but the fact that he actually needs training is the only thing preventing him from being better than Seth. A cavalier with equal levels to Seth "topping his stats" will only be a marginal case at best.

I mean, I've had a Sain with 8 Spd at 20/1 before in FE7, and I've had a base strength Titania at --/10 in FE9's random mode. Conversely, I capped every stat sans Lck on Fiora in FE7. All of those instances wouldn't happen on average.

Thanks. Marcus isn't at all that bad of a character. He is a great shield and has really high movement. If need be, he can weaken enemies for other units, kill a troublesome tough'un in the way, and even quickly save villages in grave danger.

in the real game marcus is good near the start where you have no promoted people, however he is a real exp drain, later on he can be replaced by kent or sain (i pref sain tbh) he is absolutely useless past the chapter where you save lucies (think its right, cant remember the name) then as for meatshielding, hector's knight friend replaces him pretty easily.

Yes, but the start of the game is the hardest part because your units are weak and beardless. Marcus is pure awesome, because he is both a huge wall of man and horse that enemies cannot get through, and he can mow the masses down with an axe with ease. Sain is very strong, yes, but suffers from a lack of Skill, Defense, and Speed. Oswin is awesome, but doesn't have the amazing movement of Marcus.

I actually find Marcus good in Fire Emblem Six, too. I tend to have him get in harm's way when another unit needs rescuing, and he never gets defeated in battle for me. I've ended some of my games with him at level 20, and he's really good. Mind all the people who make excuses about why he's a bad unit, I had my usual crew also promoted and at high levels. (i.e Erk, Kent, etc. The people I use in most of my files)
