  • What a honeyed voice the lead singer Sally Carr possessed!

  • I felt in love on this song,i was teeneger in 1972!!! wonderfull souvenir!

  • Beutiful nenä.

  • ABBA has plagiarized this song with their "When I kissed the teacher"

  • In 1972 I was nine years old but I remember thios song cause I heard in spanish version

  • @TheKalen486 Depends if i was Spaced out or Not...might give the Tradesmans Entrance a miss and slip in the Front Door....

  • could this band have inspired Benny & Bjorn to take ABBA in the direction to be the biggest pop sensation we have seen.Sure sounds like it.

  • I Never heard this song but it is cool. The chick is great looking too.

  • Is this ABBA's cover???

  • @silvio1963able look at the date from this song, I am 48 and never heard Abba sing this song.Where did you get that if was a cover from Abba's?. Regards

  • @VOYCONPRISA In 1972, I was just 8 years old that time, and as every child of my age, only cartoons and TV series, were the top affair, I've started enjoying music when teenager at about 13, so I remember ABBA's songs and performance, their look seems so much like the Middle of the Road. Maybe they had inspired ABBA, not vice-versa, of course they are older!!!

  • @silvio1963able has the ABBA sound to it.

  • My Mom used to sing this song at home when I was a little boy ... !!

I finally know who sing this and the name of the song too.

    Thanks!!

  • Excellent, and I'm glad this clip still exists. Good job it wasn't recorded by the BBC though, cos then it would most definitely have been wiped

  • Sally is Fuckin Beautiful......And she can sing....Bonus

  • I STILL WANT TO MARRY YOU

  • she sounds like she has a mouth ful of marbles

  • Between Shocking Blue in the Netherland (late 60's), Middle of the Road in Scotland (early 70's), and Abba in Sweden (later bourgeois 70's) : there was Sheila in France you REALLY should all be knowing about.

(prefer her mid 70's, eventually) (in 30+ years, she sold about as much as all the previously named ones alltogether) (!!!)

  • Is that Brian Connoly of The Sweet?

  • ABBA just looked at what MOTR did and avoided their commercial "errors". just my opinion. i wonder if Agnetha and Sally ever hang out together. if they do i bet Agnetha pays.

  • A esta rubia la partiria al medio, que buena que esta!!!

  • @jjorgeargentino Ahorita tiene 70 años hay tu diras !!!

  • @ALEXANDRU1191 nu stii cita dreptate ai

  • @ALEXANDRU1191 Eu am dat de curand peste discurile tatalui meu de cand era student, printre care si unul cu Middle of the Road. Pacat ca nu am la ce sa le ascult :(

  • It's odd how how the men's fashions look so bad but the women's look pretty good?

  • @lewisner Because hot pants look good any time any decade ..and the men's clothes were showbiz clothes ..nobody walked around outside like that

  • what a good old times!!

  • sounds a bit like boney m...this particular no

  • these were out there before ABBA

  • ABBA appeared precisely in 1972 Middle Of the Road were already famous.

  • @dizital52 They were very big in Europe, especially Italy, and probably, paved the way for later groups, like Abba, Brotherhood of Man, and Pussycat.

  • @Wolfspiderxl hardly.. Abba paved it themselves only with their music.

  • Felicitaciones por subir este video, y tambien por la letra (lyrics), y la voz de Sally es excelente y hermosa

  • the leggy blonde of the 70s

  • Great success had this song as a teenager!!

    Sally Carr always beautiful.

  • I love this voice

  • supper!wonderfull! thanks Fritz5139 for this video! i am roumanian fun!

  • simson and delilah it did go wrong with simson because of delilah ............

never give your hart to a strange woman

  • Is that Peter Sutcliffe on drums?

  • My first single !

  • scotland's finest,listen to the bass,outstanding eh

  • go sal

  • muito bom, excelente. que saudade.... e olha que naci em 1976

  • Sally Carr has always such a big smile when she sings!

  • Not to insist too much, but far better than the fully live Tv-cut to be found her on YT, of the singer "Sheila", is the record itself she made with this "Samson et Dalila" brillant popular dance song.

It is very similar to the MOTR piece, just as efficient and electric, kick-drum and 'charleston' (hit-hat), with a little extra from the beloved voice, plain and generous as always, soft and not too loud either. A true gem absent from YT...

One should try to lend an ear to it, at occasions..

  • Bernard Estardy was reknown 'Voice Catcher', Sheila offered the perfect 'primary matter' there, so the string of hits they produced from 1970-79 made this pair Sheila/Estardy truely magic a combination.

Add then a few compositions from Middle of The Road and you have a handful of... perfect pieces,

Umbearable 45T records of the Seventies era. Very popular in France.

    THANKS ALL !

(from memory : "Les rois mages", "Samson et Dalila", "Vive la terre", to be listened from the CBE studio record! )

  • I love the voice

  • This reached #5 in South Africa in 1972. It as MOTR's fourth straight top-5 hit in the sunny Republic.

  • Samson and Delilah lived a long long time ago. She was undecided but man that hair just had to go. Ain't no glory in this fable like the story Cane and Abel Samson's gonna turn the tables. Samson had a feeling that God would guide his feeble hand. Man you should 've seen him pushin' pillars from the stand. Samson had a feeling that God would guide his feeble hand. Man you should 've seen him pushin' pillars from the stand
  • Never heard this song before but now having heard it, sure they could've well at Eurovision - sounds like a Eurovision type son!!!!

  • good point. they would have probably made it to the finals!

  • beautiful song and pretty singer, nice memories from the 70', good excellent posting

  • scottish, or, more correctly, sweaty

  • gypmaster, or, more correctly, Gypo (one with caravan)

  • She has pretty good teeth for being Scotch.

  • You must be 'merican. Can't spell for shit!

  • Got a bit Scotched, eh?

  • What a good looking gal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duffy eat ya heart out.Sallys got the lot!

  • I thought this was an Aboriginal band?

  • Anyone else think Sally Carr could have been Brian Conolly's (The Sweet) sister??

  • Comment removed

  • no but sweets lead as a brother

    tv shows taggart..

    star macmanus.

    tj

  • Jeez , They must have been seperated at birth!

Heh heh seriously they could be siblings, they are both Fantastic! oops sorry brian has passed away.....

  • Me quedo con esta version en ingles, suena mas autentica, aunque por la letra tiene tono religioso.

  • magic!

  • Me encanta esta canción, me trae gratos recuerdos, ya no hay canciones como esta, na na nana je je je

  • This song is of my teen age. Rythmic and happy. To dance. I like it

  • koooooooool

  • two of my city's great bands, the marmalade, and the middle of the road, magnificent.

  • What city?

  • Glasgow

  • Thank you, I thout they were from Australia.

Now I now they from U.K.

  • SCOTLAND

  • Thank you, now I now they're from Glasgow, Scotland

  • What about The Sensational Alex Harvey Band ?

  • and what about that great scot billy connolly ..he's from glasgow too.

  • It was all because of Sally Carr.

Her voice is so unique that she could sing the back of a biscuit box and you would be entertained.

Not like the cookie cutter "talent" we have today.

Sally probably could not make it pass the front desk if she tried to make it today.

  • this is not a song, this is a legend !!!

  • Sheila covered this one as well. (search for "Sheila Samson et Dalila")

  • Funny Brittish Music...but that was in the later 70*ies also! Anyhow, fanastic!

  • glasgows finest

  • Aita Tu Ai! A rutu mai! Once upon a time... Best music can come from the past sometimes! I like this friendly style! Merci Beaucoup!

  • great band from my home city of glasgow, better than abba.

  • Come on now - thats not true! They were good though!

  • definitely better than ABBA -- more vigour

  • @jafis06 haha definitely not :D

  • @bourlivak88 well, it's a matter of taste :) ABBA is unbearably soppy and namby-pamby to me; MOTR is more genuine

  • @jafis06 ok, I admit they´re a bit "softer", but musically a lot better (ideas of arrangements, melodies etc.)

  • @bourlivak88 ok, I (reluctantly) agree, but still I like MOTR much better than ABBA :)

  • damn! lol

  • Funny Brittish Music...but that was in the later 70*ies also! Anyhow, fanastic!

  • i idg. they from like sweeden or something?

  • I'd definitely give her some samson and delilah!

  • 5 Sterne & einen lieben Gruss dazu :-)

  • Ok 5/5 but the English being the lonely Island of the Europe World is very chauvinistic, these days will get around with all your Music to the EURO. Here in Belgium I like everything from England what it is/was back before, so follow us....And think about it!

  • A fantastic piece of pop track production this. 2 achieve that bottom end JBL pumping thumping sound was a techical achievement & whoever produced this track should be revered. Catchy tune. MOTR were PRE ABBA ...and as other posters have observed Ariola should have punted them more. Lovely tune this too! XXX

  • @rockondog Yes and I am a fan of Bernard Estardy the studio producer who did marvels of this same kind in France then.

Typically with singer Sheila, who among other tunes recorded 3 versions of MOR songs. The 45' of "Samson et Dalila" is a knocker, while the still (quite) unknown gem is one Bside "Vive la terre" for "Queen Bee". Check it on YT. You will enjoy the 'pop' production at a master level in this ode for Earth and Nature.

  • @lOmnivoreSobriquet

Finally "Les rois mages" (for "Tweedlee Dee") is a legend of its own.

Check for anything baring the "CBE" Studio, or 'Bernard Estardy' name if you really enjoy these sounds of 'heavy' and quite artificial pop productions.

  • could you tell me the name of this band? thanxs

  • Middle Of The Road. It's written big, just above the film!

  • MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

I love them......back in 1970s, I used to listen to these songs on that big black round thing they called an lp.......

  • Anytime a great one!!

  • the year i was born how cool,,

  • Im happy listening this song

  • Sally Carr and Co performing well as usual,a lot of songs written about this time seemed to be of either a historic or moralistic nature, they could have performed this one on 'Stars on Sunday'.

  • Anyone know the name of the lead singer?

  • Sally Carr from Glasgow Scotland

  • 00:35 he looks like that bloke from the Fast Show!

  • i love this, she is great, ive never seen their faces, i only know this song from an oddish compilation LP from 1972
