He had navicular at the time, but we almost lost him to laminities and founder in the fall. He's been recovering and has lost a LOT of weight, so feels much better. I might try riding him in the ring with the ball again... It was pretty scary there for a while.
Unfortunately Trinity's laminitis has gotten worse, and he has foundered. We're treating that now traditionally and I'm looking into a Natural Farrier for a better prognosis. She also treats navicular, so he will be getting a "total" approach. Thank you for your comment - i will ask about the things you mentioned.
What fun! Such horseplay brings out the giggles of delight in me too. My gaited bay and white filly, Baybay, and I both absolutely love kicking the ball around--either as the only team in the arena (as in my "Hoofball control" YouTube video), or most especially in friendly and fast paced competition with friends and family whenever we get the chance to play together. I'm in my 50s, but gaited horseplay with that big bright ball turns me into a giggling 12-year-old girl 'most every time! ;)
Where do you get the ball?

Well, you're doing the right thing... Keep that blood flowing in his legs.
Have you used or considered using any plates or braces, like a Nolan hoof plate, a spider plate, or hoof bands?
