I thought that people became "mellow" from using marijuana.

If the producers of the movie used the word: "CANNABIS" or "INDIAN HEMP" instead of an obscure term such as "MARIJANA" during the time of its production, then the response from the public and the medical establishment would have been different too.

It's interesting to note that an expensive form of THC such as Marinol which costs $17 a pill is Schedule-III drug in the USA whereas Cannabis containing the same molecule is Schedule-I
