  • The plans for these homes (just the plans) run about $10,000. That's a 10 and then a comma followed by three zeros. I think the idea of this home is fantastic, reusing waste water, growing food, passive heating and cooling, and independent energy. However, I don't agree with using bottles and aluminium cans as "little bricks" for the non-load bearing walls. The cans don't really serve any purpose in these walls, just recycle them, they don't do any good in the walls.

  • average house price in england is about £240,000

  • US$ 150 000 = 97 244.7326 British pounds

that is a good price for a british person wanting to find a house in america...

  • I see lots of comments regarding "sustainability", I would love to have a home like that, but I knew this houses are not within my budget, I can't afford $150.000 for a house like that, and even though I think it is a great idea to grow your own food, I would not consider myself an "environmentalist", as these folks also said, if I get to live in a house like that, I would still go to the grocery store and get my lemonade and cheese, and use the internet too :)

  • dat sum tatooine shit, i want one

  • 4:00

HAHA... sustainable... nice store bought lemonade you have there XD

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy what does sstaionability have to do with lemonade? are you sure what sustainabiliy means?

  • @80spopQueen ...

do you know what sustainability means?

She has store bought lemonade... which was delivered and produced using gas powered vehicles...

    100% not sustainable.

If she grew her own lemons, then I would have said nothing about it.

When you claim something, you need to demonstrate it :P

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy (1 of 2) another product of American education, *sigh* (-_-)

sustainability means being able to stay alive dispite whatever happens. for example fossil fuels is a non-renewable product if humans ran out we would have no back up energy and we would have take like a zillion steps back, there for fossil fuels is non-sustainable for our society. If we rely on it completely and we were to run out we would be doomed. This is where clean energy comes in we xan never run out of

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy (2 of 2)

sunlight, wind or Geo-thermal energy as long as the earth is around.

in the lady's case if all of the fossil fuels were to disapear from the world and no trucks could deliever lemonade to the store, she can just grow some in her EARTHSHIP. So no, she is VERY sustainable.

  • Everytime i see this guy do his thing, I get a deep sense of peace, something that seems to be very rare indeed lately

  • Global Warming=B.S.

  • The Global Warming Hoax is over; the BBC had to admit that 5000 years ago there was half as much ICE on the Planet as Today in 2011.

  • the Earthship hut design is more affordable and what Michael Reynolds is building in natural disaster areas of the world.

  • There's a reason for "climate change" the main one is called the 4 seasons. The sun also has a great affect on our Earth. CO2 is good for plants, we exhale it. DUH! Why tax something we breathe? You're a tool if you fall for the globalist neo-fascist agenda, taxing will not remove the heavy metal toxic waste from our waters, and more, CO2 is a life giving gas.

  • @SaveAmericaFightNWO here here

  • @SaveAmericaFightNWO I agree with you; the problem is compounded by the rate we get rid of trees/plants that "breathe" these gasses to expel oxygen as well. So keep that in mind.

  • @AcidRaZor you're good for mentioning this point here, this is all by design, so yes, I agree also, to keep that in mind. The deforestation was to kill off wild life, wild foods, remove resources from the earth, they killedl the oxygen levels, increasing cancer/disease, just in that way alone. Believe our Native Americans had it right. They had all they needed to live, ready to go at a moment's notice, in good communication with neighboring tribes, trading partners, and no paper fiat money.

  • Very interesting indeed!

  • How could I get involved with being a member of a crew building earthships? Your site has information on the academy you offer, after taking this course would it be hard for an individual to find employment with your company as a builder?

  • Earth ships are fairly cheap.

    Constructions start at;

    Studio: - $5,000/ 800 sq ft

One bed: -$6000/ 1000 sq ft

Two bed; -$7000/ 1200 sq ft

Three bed; -$8000/ 1500 sq ft

  • What about educational purposes for children. Living so far out and no school?

  • @Ophelialife The primary issue with society is that they ship their children off to schools instead of focusing on parenting. Breeding a generation of morons. Lazy ones at that. I'd reckon living in an earthship would teach them truckloads more than they ever could at a school. Combine that with the internet, and any parent who cares enough would be able to home school very easily

  • @AcidRaZor so sorry for a late responce. Acually I had already made up my mind that I want to live in an earthship, badly. The problem is that I am homeless. I can't afford to build one or buy one cant even stay in a hotel. :C and I agree our society is totallystupid, man. The school system is to dumb us down, thats how i am being raised now. (still a minor) Though i perfer to be in a public school for social interaction. or id go crazy being homeschooled. check out my dads page sweet6b9

  • The globally-averaged annual precipitation is 990 millimetres (39 in). Climate classification systems such as the Köppen climate classification system use average annual rainfall to help differentiate between differing climate regimes. Antarctica is the Earth's driest continent. Rain is also known or suspected on other worlds, composed of methane, iron, neon, and sulfuric acid rather than water.

  • The urban heat island effect leads to increased rainfall, both in amounts and intensity, downwind of cities. Global warming is also causing changes in the precipitation pattern globally, including wetter conditions across eastern North America and drier conditions in the tropics. Precipitation is a major component of the water cycle, and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the planet.

  • The movement of the monsoon trough, or intertropical convergence zone, brings rainy seasons to savannah climes. Rain is the primary source of freshwater for most areas of the world, providing suitable conditions for diverse ecosystems, as well as water for hydroelectric power plants and crop irrigation. Rainfall is measured through the use of rain gauges. Rainfall amounts are estimated actively by weather radar and passively by weather satellites.

  • In mountainous areas, heavy precipitation is possible where upslope flow is maximized within windward sides of the terrain at elevation which forces moist air to condense and fall out as rainfall along the sides of mountains. On the leeward side of mountains, desert climates can exist due to the dry air caused by downslope flow which causes heating and drying of the air mass.

  • Moisture moving along three-dimensional zones of temperature and moisture contrasts known as weather fronts is the major method of rain production. If enough moisture and upward motion is present, precipitation falls from convective clouds (those with strong upward vertical motion) such as cumulonimbus (thunderstorms) which can organize into narrow rainbands.

  • Two processes, possibly acting together, can lead to air becoming saturated leading to rainfall: cooling the air or adding water vapor to the air. Virga is precipitation that begins falling to the earth but evaporates before reaching the surface; it is one of the ways air can become saturated. Precipitation forms via collision with other rain drops or ice crystals within a cloud. Rain drops range in size from oblate, pancake-like shapes for larger drops, to small spheres for smaller drops.

  • Rain is liquid precipitation, as opposed to non-liquid kinds of precipitation such as snow, hail and sleet. Rain requires the presence of a thick layer of the atmosphere to have temperatures above the melting point of water near and above the Earth's surface. On Earth, it is the condensation of atmospheric water vapor into drops of water heavy enough to fall, often making it to the surface.

  • these are so cool! *no pun intended :)

  • contact me if you are interested in helping out, building an earthship

  • @ 5:45 rushed without purpose................... that says it all about our current culture!!

  • This would be a dream retreat for me, a small Earthship out in the middle of nowhere! I have to get me a hippy girl ;)

  • There is absolutely nothing special about an "Earth Ship." You can get the same benefits in any well designed well insulated home with a large amount of "thermal mass."

Adobe, Compressed Earth Bricks, and earth bags are all easier to build with, perform better energy wise, and very importantly, they actually end up with less embodied energy due to not transporting the old tires. Of the lot earth bags are the best!!!

  • At 4:55 when the woman said "I didn't know if I could live out here, I might not have enough power for my computer, telephone, or TV is a classic example of what's wrong with people now-a-days. Heaven forbid she get off her fat ass and do something...

  • @titanrain1 you do realize you're saying this from your computer...kinda hypocritical

  • @hurdlaone Hypocritical how? I don't whine about not having useless shit to play with while cramming more McDonalds down my throat. If the bitch got OFF the phone, OFF the computer, and OFF the couch, she wouldn't weigh triple what she should. Now, I'll go back to what I was doing: NOT sitting on my ass all day watching rap videos...

  • @titanrain1 good for you

  • Comment removed

  • @titanrain1 she is living out there. where are you living?

  • So what's the temperature going to be tomorrow? Is it going to rain tonight? What's the forecast for the next few days?

  • Everyone should add just one of these concepts to their homes. Whether it's a solar panel, grey water systems, the heating/cooling systems, water harvesting, ANYTHING! It will help our planet! (With the perk of saving money)

  • I agree with this video, minus the "curb global warming" b.s.

  • "We're extreme, we recycle" XD

  • This is VERY cool. As a finishing touch, a bit of my solar power music should be played in these homes.

    Cheers,

    Turtuga Blanku

    *Solar Power Music*

  • We are about to build one in Sweden, but we have more problems because the sun is very low and the tempeture is very cold most of the year, but we will complet this because we humans need new thinking against the nature, also there is a lot of fun in doing this.

  • @rebel42000

Hej jag finns också i Sverige och är intresserad av ert projekt. Har ni en blog eller likn där man kan följa er byggprocess? Är speciellt intresserad av hur huset anpassas till det Svenska (extrema) klimatet.

  • I rented an earthship in the Greater World Community for a night- it was awesome. It was 90 degrees outside and totally cool inside. it felt great to charge my cellphone on solar power and know that the waste water from the sink went to feed the banana tree in the bedroom!

  • Oh man I have always wanted a banana tree in my house! So beautiful!

  • You can build them cheaper than that ! Think about the savings in utility bills over a life time.

  • to have someone else build a house in the states worth 150k on the market you will pay out over 300k and over the years it will devalue itself to under 75k.

for 150k i could build an earthship completely off the grid in columbia and hire armed guards, gardeners, cooks, and maids.

  • why is there not an earth mother ship for public housing???

  • gilga999 because we are stuck in what our society teaches us, break free and if you cant break free we will help you!

  • We need to free the others around us.

  • "How do we know that these aren't just some kind of bunch of hippies getting together to set up some kind of commune and not really doing anything and just sort of talking the talk and not working the walk. If this were to take of then the utilities companies are somewhat threaten by this because there are alternatives available to people and they no longer feeding in A SYSTEM that obviously are pretty MONY HUNGRY." - Garbage Warrior Documentary.

  • Since when does living in a commune just talking talk? They live in a commun to get away from the stupidity of a broken monetary system. You will never be free if you have to pay to live on a the abundant planet that you had no choice about being on. Its not like earth ships are patented. Its not like any of this is patented. You could build one yourself in under 5000 dollars. That 150 000 price tag is just for that dude to build it for you. Wich is outrageous when you do the logistics yourself.

  • Im going to save all my money up to have a large EarthShip built for my first own HOME!!! I Love This Entire Concept!

  • Great channel! Just subscribed! We too are into "green clean sustainable energy"! Come check us out - greenstarenergy & feel free to comment, join or post a question!

  • I'm with you brother

  • Dude, did you miss that part??? Watch 2:50-2:55.

  • Let us start the global cooling guys. I could die for a home like this!

  • global warming or not..

what's the downside of making homes that don't rely on any outside water or electricity, doesn't produce sewage, provides most of your food, and uses trash in its construction?

They should build retirement communities like this - its perfect for budget-strapped old folks

  • There's no downside IMHO. I LOVE earthships, I own every book Michael Reynolds has written. I just don't buy into Man-Made Global Warming I think if the advertising strayed away from furthering the Global Warming panic, and focused on the dramatic energy savings these houses can produce, people might take them more seriously. That's all I was trying to say in the first place 2 months ago...

  • oh, yeah. Well we're in agreement then. I think these buildings are great. I can't find the books at any libraries here in D.C. - do you know which one has info/diagrams/explanation of the solar toilet they designed? - The one that they installed in Nepal.

  • The solar toilet is in "Earthship Vol III" :) Interesting design but I'm a little turned off by solar and composting toilets. If you checkout the earthship website, they're doing something even cooler, now. They've installed a solar glazing panel over a traditional septic tank, which speeds along the natural anaerobic process.

  • The reporters voice makes me cringe, but otherwise interesting info. Actually this seems to be an utterly disgusting piece of disinfo. I can't even watch the rest now. However it's good to get awareness out perhaps even in this form.

  • very special and educational

  • I wish is that they didn't mention "Global Warming" at every opportunity. Whether you believe global warming or not, you must admit that the mere mention of it makes some people immediately close their minds and stop listening. The message of Earthships could be spread wider if their MASSIVE energy savings were the major "advertising" point, as in "build one of these and only pay $50 a year in utility bills!" - not how these houses are going to "save the human race from global warming"

  • i agree

  • The whole point of one of those houses is to be self sustaining when the shit hits the fan (Global warming, ect). Most people who don't believe in global warming probably would rather have a tract home, and drive a SUV anyways, not live in an alternative home to save a few bucks.

  • I don't believe in Global Warming and I L-O-V-E Earthships - because they will save me (quite a bit more than) a few bucks.

  • I don't believe in Man-Made Global Warming but I L-O-V-E Earthships. And yes, I love them because they will save me (quite a bit more than) a few bucks

  • Well when all news media (besides Fox) can't convince people that global warming is real, then the lowest common denominator(money) will have to work instead.

  • Not everyone believes the lines that the news media (even Fox) are selling.

  • OK, not the vast ocean of scientists either? Maybe when the antartic melts we can tie all the scientists that believe in global warming together, and use them as a new floating continent.

  • You misunderstand, and that is, perhaps, my fault. You'll notice that I double posted my first reply, that's because I misspoke (mistyped?) the first time. I will not argue that Global Warming is a reality, I only argue man-made Global Warming. Please show me the SUVs that caused the last dozen Ice Ages that the earth has gone through...

  • Doubt i can convince you, but I have heard that they have been testing ice cores in the artic, and antartic, and can basically show temp levels, co2, carbon, and other things from thousands of years ago. It shows a natural fluctuation in temp for thousands of years. When they tested this current warming, and co2 and other level it wasn't in line with the natural cycle of the past.

  • Which only proves that man has, at most, accelerated the natural cycle - nothing more.

  • The cycle went up then down, up then down, then the idustrial revolution, cars, coal, ect hit and it has gone through the roof. If the cycle(for instance) is a bike tire, then it just had a blow out and we're about to crash head first into who knows what.

  • Well, since we're still in a warming trend, and nowhere near a full blown ice-age yet, I'd say the tire is , perhaps, a bit overinflated, but certainly not blown out. I'd say your analogy is alarmist.

  • my understanding is, although global warming isn't man-made as you stated, we did inadvertently speed up the process greatly.

  • Completely or only partially man-made, the intensity of it is deffinetely humanity's fault. Either way, something whould be done to help, and the Earthship is a better starting point than most 'recycle #2 plastic only' things

  • They do like the Star Wars Houses on the planet Tantooine.

  • what the hell :D. So eartships looks pwn.

  • wait wait WAIT , what are you guys talking about earthship???? PLEASE ANSWER

  • We need to do more than this.

  • thnx 4 sending this:)) also look up those dome houses:)) their fast and cool aswell:)) but not as effeciant as this:)) But i wonder how a earthship would hold under a pole shift:(( ouch

But still a good idea that needs to spread:))

    Love n Peace:

    Loooooong

  • we need to at least START with this.

  • what a beautifully non destructive lifestyle. ingenius in it's application of flowing with nature instead of "struggling" against it. much kudos!

  • I want one! :)

  • This is the shit :)

  • true i want one :) prefer a forrest one.

  • THAT OWNS!! Im gonna get one.

  • Those homes are so beautiful, I would love to build one in NH some day. I would love to be self-sufficient.

  • please keep posting more. please. this is taking off. great idea starting a youtube useraccount by name of earthship and making sure you only post useful stuff
