  • I lost about 3 days to this game when I last installed it from an abandonware file, before it crashed having not saved for 3-4 hours... else I'd still be playing it right now most likely XD

    Still love it though :D

  • I still play this! played this the other day! whats really great is the modibility of all the units and other options

  • I just stumbled across this message board about fading suns kborek.cz it contains a vast amount of info, to get fs running under contemporary os. There is even a patch that let's you play the ingame videos.

  • Re-installed and no intro movie - anyone has any ideas?

  • Excellent mixture of Star Wars and Warhammer 40k!!! Very deep backstory and game because it came from a boardgame. Many PC games were converted from board games in the mid 90's and that's why the best PC games come from that decade!

  • Loved the game even though there was way too much micromanaging involved for my tastes.

  • This is the best RPG game ever and always will be!

  • @dshieldsjr2000 You are aware that the game this video is from is a strategy game and not an RPG, right?

  • @Gargantou You are aware that the strategy game this video is from is based on an rpg? That it even says so inside the game itself?

  • @Gargantou I am well aware that it is based on a PNP RPG, I never said it wasn't.

I'm just saying I'd prefer an MMOSG instead that focused on you managing a particular House.

Also, there was actually a computer space-ship themed RPG of this being developed a ton of years back, they even released a demo for it but sadly the game got cancelled.

MatrixGames was due to publish it.

  • I always believed that the real success of Fading Suns was in the release of a tabletop RPG and a strategic video game at around the same time. Now that Redbrick Limited has reintroduced the Fading Suns to the world of tabletop games I'm secretly hoping someone will do the same for the video game industry.

HINT: If anyone from Bethesda Software is reading this, Fading Suns is an even richer game world than Fallout and they are a lot less likely to try and make a MMO out of it.

  • @Jernau11 The very concept of a FS computer rpg makes my heart skip a beat. But I think it would better suit the style of whatever Bioware calls themselve now.

  • what about a MMORPG in that universe?

I could reuse my Decados player character from the tabletop game

  • An MMORPG could potentially be awesome, though I'd personally far prefer an MMOSG(Strategy Game) like the Dune MMO was intended to be for example.

  • haha been playing this ever since it came out(1996) and have never beaten it once. What a great game though

  • Hey, I've uploaded the soundtrack to my profile for anyone interested.

  • Any place to download it?

  • Do you know of a place where I can download the entire soundtrack? Thanks.

  • I can't seem to find the first track of the soundtrack on your profile?

  • Is there anywhere that this soundtrack can be found? It's absolutely amazing.

  • My favorite strategy game !

Yes... We need remake ! :)

  • Anyone know where I can get the opening music?

  • WOW, for all the time ive played emperor of the fading suns (over the last 4 years) i never knew what the opening cinematic was like.

Now I know, and its amazing!

Noone explains stuff like that in a opening cinematic ever. Very nice for a game so old.

WE NEED A SEQUAL, or a Open Source remake!

  • this game is a masterpiece gentlemen, i wish to they could make a sequel, but could be dubbed down because the low brain casual gamers and kids dont like things too complex

  • such a great game...and they don't do opening cinematics like that anymore!

  • One of my favorite games ever. I wish someone would make a true sequel to this. Or even any game in this setting.

  • games workshop 40k... In the future there is only war

  • lol it's true, this game's setting is quite similar to warhammer 40k

  • I disagree, seeing as aliens are a HUGE part of the 40k universe, whereas they play a more minor role in this IMO.

If anything I'd say Dune is more reminiscent, with feudal houses etc.

  • @Gargantou I always thought of Fading Suns as a cross between Dune and Azimov's Foundation.

  • Warhammer 40K is more or less based on gigantic wars rather than politics and atmosphere.

  • heh; I remember as an in school 3d artist I was soooo impressed by the dated CG opening. It is still fun to watch for nostalgia :-)

  • This game is awesome. Pity it doesn't work on XP SP2 and Vista.

  • Get it from the underdogs... for some reason then it works! (you dont get the opening vids though)

  • I own the original. It works on my XP SP2 with a minor mod to the registry.

    1. run regedit

    2. Go to HDI\Emperor of the Fading Suns\1.0

    3. Edit--> New String and call it CDROM

    4. Right click on CDROM and select modify

    5. Make the value data your cd drive for example D:\

No intro video but the game works.
