  • this 80's mcdonalds commercial puts to shame every single christmas special made in the past 10 years in terms of epicness... a friggin mcdonalds commercial!

  • TRAP THE SUN IN A BOX!

  • Where is Hamburglar?

  • Where id birdie and Grimmace these days?

  • @binturong1000

Was about to say the same thing

  • RAANNNN RAAAAAANNN RRRUUUUUUUUU! Sorry, force of habit. good commercial, anyways!

  • Seeing this makes me want to cry. I really miss those days....I miss watching tv with some of my family that is not around anymore. Kids, make the most of your childhood, cause it's gone before you know it. Forever an '80's kid...

  • I miss the old McDonalds commercils when they used characters like Grimmace, Hamburgler, the Fri Guys, and Birdie.

  • I remember seeing this heart-warming Christmas Commercial in the 1980's and I Loved Seeing it everyyear on Christmas! I'm glad it's on Youtube because it brings back Awesome Christmas Commercial's from the 1980's and 1990's!!!

  • I can't believe these commercials are now kind of illegal. Yeah they made me want to go to mcdonald's as a kid but I also liked the fantasy these ads created and the maps they would give u in the restaurant to see where the fry kids lived and so forth. oh well.

  • @franzchick66

These commercials aren't illegal, they just don't fit into our politically-correct overly-cynical and 'serious' culture. They would get 'trolled' too much in new media for it to happen. Everything these days with McDonald's is geared towards 'Internet Culture' and Neo-Liberal Gen Y. It's exploitation all the same, just Exploitation 2.0.

  • if u try to catch the star, your dead,u would burn to pieces

  • I was 8 when this aired. This is the most heartwarming McDonald's commercial.

  • 13 People are losers and will go on living miserable lives.

  • @d2k All 13 of them must be kids who were born after the McDonaldland characters got scrapped. Either that or the parents who made it happen.

  • Omw! I haven't seen this since way back in the early 90's! My mom had taped ``How the Grinch Stole Christmas'' the cartoon , and this was during the commercial.

  • One of my favorite commercials of all time. Thank you for posting it.

  • awesome commercial ;)

  • The music toward the end is extremely similar to the music in The Empire Strikes Back.

  • why cant the commercials be like this again? why? whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!!!

  • I love how they didn't even advertise food, they just said mary christmas and pointed out that christmas is about friendship and love, god bless the 80's.

  • Greatness. This was back before McDonald's sold out and started catering almost exclusively to blacks with their commercials laced with rap and horrible hip hop music.

    Just terrible.

  • a falling star isent a star its a fucking metorite! if we had a falling star coming too earth a real star we would all be fcked!!!

  • @april76301

Man, the girls must love your brilliant observations.

  • @Vebinz Hahahahahahaha. But yeah its kinda obvious most kids think a falling star is a real star so thats why they did that in this commercial. But when i wrote that comment 7 months ago it was a bit of a joke but thanks.

  • I miss these old commercials actually.

  • I've eaten McDonald's for almost 50 years. I'm doing fine. I can still fuck good and move. I can still exercise. Never barfed on fast food before but I have gotten food poisoning twice on the fanatic peoples health food. As Redd Foxx once said "All I see fanatic health nuts dead at 40-50 years old while I see a bunch of people eating tasty greasy food still alive at 80 years old. The paranoia propaganda fanatics need to fuckin do something better with their time in their life

  • i love these old commercials from back in the day.....but...shouldn't these 3 have died from radioactivity from that star?!?!

  • ronald is gay??

  • @jcoronet2000 : of course he is, Birdie is a lesbian, Hamburgular is a pedophile, Grimace is a cross breed between pigs, cows and retarded fat men and radioactive material.

  • Miss these guys

  • stupid and creepy :S

  • Fuck Mc donalds!!

  • Why is it that everything from the 80's seems so much better?

  • @dragonfire836 simple. cause the 80s ruled.

  • @dragonfire836 Because the 80s really are better than the last two decades in everything.

  • Why we no longer get touching tv ads like this one?

  • @GokuMcDuck I agree, I wish we would, but now days everythings gotta be sexual or just plain STUPID! Everything now days has to have that modern new age touch to it, with someone saying someting smartass at the end or someting like that.

  • What does this have to do with Christmas?

  • @crashdog5866 B/c Christmas is supposed to be warm and touching, or atleast it used to be. I guess now days its just everyone texting on a cell phone, but nothing is real anymore.

  • Comment removed

  • @BoltaVS I totally agree

  • Nothing Can Kill the Grimace~!

  • AS much as i hate McDonalds nasty ass food, and the fast food nation corporations, this was a touching, memorable commercial. I liked it. McDonalds didn't seem so evil back then........the ignorance of youth is bliss

  • this mcdonalds christmas commercial is so cool i love seeing these old christmas commercials

  • i remember these haha

  • I remember seeing this a long time ago in the 1980's. It's the best Mcdonalds commercial ever from the 1980's! This video isn't Gay Prick! Thanks for posting this up because this commercial brings back a lot of memories from the 1980's!

  • i cant wait till thanksgiving and christmas time im so excited for the holidays

  • lawl, it's already Christmas in Canada!

  • this mcdonalds christmas commercial was the best ever

  • OOOHHHH! I remember this one! I remember staying up late through December just watching all the Christmas Specials and the old commercials. My parents still get on youtube and look some up from when they kids in the 70s.

  • They were good commercials and heartwarming, now Mcdonalds has become a ghetto corporation with ghetto commercials...enough said...

  • What are you talking about?

  • @GabbaG00p I agree but it's not just McDonald's, that's just the way EVERYTHING is now. These ads were made by people from the last part of generation X, the millenial generation is computer smart, but just can't grasp anything heart felt or simple and emotional.

  • McDonalds commercials from the 70s/80s/and 90s were really great. They were simple, and fun to watch. Ronald would always have some sort of problem, and he would resolve it with his friends in McDonald Land.

Today, there's no McDonald Land. Ronald is hardly in the commercials. It's always about some stupid activity about kids being active, or choose apple slices because they are better for you.

  • Too many commercials today try to be "clever" instead of getting thier message across in a simple and appealing manner, like this one does.

  • Aww, this commercial is so sweet!

  • Those were the days. I hate the new McD commercials. I can't wait for "I'm Loving It" to go away.

  • So Ronald regifted Birdie's and Grimace's gift?

  • y did they stop making commercials like these??

  • @OCPrunsthecops Because most people stopped caring.

  • @OCPrunsthecops Don't know, maybe because it recquired effort to make it (-_-)

  • @OCPrunsthecops OC, alot of the top executive positons were vacated. People made their money and retired so there were alot of vacant producer and director positions by the mid to late 90's. So alot of directors who entered hollywood in the late 90's and 2000's designed commercials after what they thought was popular. They decided to create commercials which combined the popular music style, in this case hip hop, rap, etc and CGI elements to create easily marketable commercials.

  • @OCPrunsthecops because they realized they can still sell their products without em......which is unfortunate, cuz commercials like these were always fun to watch

  • @OCPrunsthecops Don't know but I wish they'd show commercials like this again!

  • @OCPrunsthecops

Because the world of commercials nowadays have gone boring, uncreative, unimaginitive, lame and completely serious and office like! Thank god I experienced these awesome commercials, cartoons, the toys, just everything in the 80's and early 90's. the shit nowadays is completely depressing and sucks the soul right out of your body.lol

  • @OCPrunsthecops Possibly McDonalds didnt get alot of customers back in the 80's or ran out of ideas for Commercials. I wish they would let US come up with commercial ideas.

  • @OCPrunsthecops Probably all goes down to money. They probably had to cut everything down to budgets. Its probably cheaper only keeping Ronald in commercials.

  • I grew up thinking Grimace can't speak. Probably because I've never seen Grimace speaking, and I only see him whenever he is being used by McDonald's as a mascot.

  • I love it how commericals back then seemed peaceful. Unlike today where nothing but advertisments materialistic items are shown.

  • @manz900 You got that right. Makes me wonder though if they were just sneakier back in the 80s and 90s—they still just wanted to sell us kids food and drinks. Or maybe companies back then really did want to give us touching stories at the same time. Not sure about that, but at least we have memories to look back upon at websites like YouTube :)

  • Christmas commercials now days are so silly and DUMB, and are just some stupid gag or joke commercials with Santa playing his Ipod, or texting, or an Elf getting drunk, no emotion at ALL anymore.

    Emotions are obsolete!

  • "Fell from the heavens"

I don't guess they'd be allowed to say "heaven" in a commercial anymore.

  • Why not? It has a different meaning entirely:

"Heavens: the sky, firmament, or expanse of space surrounding the earth."

There's no religious aspect to using that word. It doesn't imply the same thing as the Christian notion of the (singular) "heaven."

  • @AnnainCA This is what I'm talking about the new millenial generation, everything has gotta be so analyzed, technical and intellectual, I can't even make a simple statement without someone have to fucking print out an entry from a damn dictionary.

And yeah I know this is a year late before you point that out in some clever, technical, way using 100,000$ words.

  • I don't see what the problem is. I was just pointing out that "heavens" has no religious connotation. Since they weren't talking about the Christian heaven in the first place, there was no need for them to avoid the word out of fear of offending potential customers. And even if they had mentioned the Christian concept, so what? It's not like the concepts of heaven and hell are somehow unrepresented in popular culture. You'd have to be really uptight to object to a brief line in a commercial.

  • @AnnainCA I just wanna go back to the 80s!!! Simple times, people were layed back, not uptight, things were sweet and emotional. About the only problem was trying to decide how high to tease your hair up, lol. I think the 70s, 80s and EARLY 90s were the best time in history, though I was not alive in the 70s.

  • I do see your point, although I'm not sure life was simpler back then. Maybe it just seemed that way to us because we were children. I wasn't aware of the nuances of politics or religion at the time, but society had the same type of complexity then as it does now. I've still got mad nostalgia for the 80s, but being ages 2 to 12 during that decade makes it seem simpler than it probably was. It would have been different being an adult back then. :o)

  • @AnnainCA That's what I was thinking but I've talked to adults who told me it was a simpler time back then. I talked to a 50 year old man and he said it was a simpler time frmo about the 50s to the mid 90s, then around the 2000s is when things started changing. I dunno so manythings are different, People always wanna fight, NO classic TV anymore, which is strange b/c in the 80s things form the 50s and 60s were still popular now hardly anything is on that's older than 2004.

  • Was the Flurry enemy on Super Mario Brothers 2 based on Grimmace?

  • OMG !! this is totally the stuff we need these days .. when you C this you almoost get like a real feeling as if they mean it !

  • Haha, that's awesome!

  • rockerboy-I totally agree, I think the 80s was the best time ever, cool styles cool music, people layed back not so uptight about everything.

  • lol im gunna bash it. its stank lmao!

  • Would people quit bashing these old ads, I mean this was the 80s it was a different time, things were simple and felt warm watching things like this, everything didn't have to be complicated or look spaceage like it was out of the fucking year 2075, with everyone walking about with their silly microscopic cell phone clipped to their ear listening to a Ipod with the other ear and watchign a damn reality show on their normal size cell phone as they drive down the road.

  • No shit! That's why everything SUCKS now days! 80s was a cool time! People can't even go out to eat or go to a movie or anywhere without having ot be texting or on the phone, and I think it's SO SILLY. And these little clip on cell phones, I mean my God! Why do people feel they have to be connected to a phone 24/7? Can't you go out and enjoy a meal or a movie and be AWAY from the damn phone?

  • And these fucking modern "conveniences" have more drawbacks than the old stuff, This GREAT digital TV for e.g. mine froze up about 7 times last night and stayed that way for about 2 hours, yeah thats MUCH better than a little bit of static, my friend is a DJ and his radio station went all digital and when ONE thing messes up you are SCREWED and have to start all over again when making a CD, with reel to reel that NEVER happened.

  • Our motion cencered towel dispenser in the restroom stayed JAMMED all the time, so my boss yanked it out and put an old fashined manual crank towel dispenser in and it's NEVER jammed, They installed a new compter system that is supposed to make life easier in my workplace and half the time they have to call in a technician to fix it. WalMart went POT, they've lost have of their store you can't find ANYTHING, no more lawaway!

It actually seems like we are going BACKWARD, from good to bad.

  • Some day everything execpt a damn cell phone is gonna go out of existence. "What, you still have CHAIRS to sit in!! That's SO obsolete!!!" "You still live in a HOUSE, houses are SO out of date!!!"

  • Hear Hear! I totally agree with you entirely!

  • Finally someone! Thanks! The world is just getting BORING, I mean you can't go to Pizza Hut and play a juke box anymore, because that's SOOO dated!

Shopping is HARD too used to you could find most anything you want in places like Wal Mart and if they didn't have it in the store they could always order it for you. Now if they don't have something and you ask them to order it they're like, "Naw we can't do that." And they act like yo're BOTHERING them for asking.

  • Commercials like this were SO CUTE! Why don't they make them like this anymore, they don't even have these character on the commercials anymore, all the commercials now are so damn dumb, everyone listening rap music with a thousand earings and pants hanging down to the ground.

  • its a mario super star.the one that goes dududuududududuududduduudududududud when u touch it XD

  • BEST COMMENT ON HERE!!! HAHA.

  • it reminds me of an old story where someone steals a star then so the star could make a deal wo\ith them t made a deal the person asked for more stars so the star went back into the sky and every time someone opened an apple there was a star

  • LOL THIS REMINDS ME OF MY CHRISTMAS SANTA I PT UP EVERY YEAR

it says the same thing O_O

  • Aww, this commercial leaves a warm feeling in my heart.

Usually, the only thing McDonald's leaves in my heart is a chunk of Big Mac.

  • I felt a stirring deep in my McNuggets.

  • Grimmace is a purple thing who likes cokes

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my brain hurtzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!

  • That was low!!!

  • Oh, give me a break, shadowTwins!!! So insensitive!!

"Best gift is friends like you" I find it thoughtful. And of course burgers are cool, too. I always did enjoy 80's christmas commercials:)

  • lets let our kids live the fantasy lives so when they get out of high school they really think life is ok

  • how bout givin me one instead

  • Does anyone remember the Mcdonald's playland that had the merry-go-round, the slides, and the hamburger/jail looking thing you could climb in? Those were the days.

  • those were the best. the hamburger jail i only saw at a themepark MD but i had the merry go round slide and those spring things you sit on at the one near my house. those were so much better than ronal parks

  • Oh yah! I forgot about the spring things you could ride on.

  • I do. The MD's my mom took my little sis and I too had that. Yes, those were the days.

  • Tell me about it. There was a Mcdonalds in Bakersfield,Ca off the 99 freeway that had all the old toys inside. I think they took it out like 6 or 7 years ago and replaced it with one of those ball pits. :(

  • Long live the 1980s and 1990s. Ah sweet memories! I wish Mcdonald would air this during the holidays.

  • I agree the 80s and early 90s was the best times EVER!

  • i LOVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Grimace

  • Ohhh.. my God. What's crazy is I think I vaguely remember this. :-D

    I was 7.

  • Shit me too and I was 3!

  • same here but I was 7 years old at the time.

  • Man, it would be so annoying if you knew someone who felt the need to speak in rhyming verse like Ronald.

  • WTF was the purple thing lol!!!!???

  • Barney the Dinosaurs testicle.

  • LMAO!! :D

  • ooooooooooooo k i dont remember ever seeing that one

  • it has a catchy ring to it

  • Ah yes... I remember this commercial. This was when Grimace made a wish that he had elbows.

  • happy holidays, from chuck fukin norris

  • two scoops!

  • Ronald is wise. You all go to your fancy schools, learning whatever those books tell you to be real, and you spend the rest of your lives trying to figure out up from down. Ronald is the species. He's got the street knowledge. Ronald McDonald is the truth.

  • how is this a commercial? it doesnt advertise anything.

  • It advertises the spirit of Christmas and good cheer - back when people cared about it.

  • Does anybody have a cool on what Grimace is exactly? I always thought he was like a troll or something XD

  • when grimace wears that coat it makes him look gay

  • mc donald, the clown still finds creepy for me since i was a kid

  • not anymore

  • grimace is shaped and colured like a bel-end

  • Look Krimmit, a falling star. They caught a falling star that looked like the sun on a Rasin Bran box?

  • man i remember this commercial! love it.

  • That star looked like the sun on Raisin Bran cereal.

  • manipulation in progress :)

  • donald land?

  • grimace is a taste bud

  • Clowns freak me out.
