There was a huge explosion of musical creativity during the 70s especially in the electronic field, as the tools for this kind of music had finally come out of academia and into the hands of open minded artists. So, rather than being forward thinking, I'd say rather that much of what we've seen over the past 20 years is backward thinking (reflecting). Which is fine by me, this music is devine and timeless.
