  • what's the name of the instrument at 2:28?

  • Been watching orchestras all night on Youtube.

Gergiev is the first conductor that I could manage to follow the beat/tempo

to him movements so far. Seems odd.

I find myself wanting to go to the Chicago Museum of Art now.

  • what gorgeous gold flutes!

  • Upload the rest!!!

  • great recordings! please put up the rest of the movements =)

  • And who protected that guy playing the fucking noisy instrument?

  • @santgil he could wear ear defenders like the british army bands wear now.

  • Conductor spaz at the start!!

  • Do you have the whole performance of this piece by this orchestra?

  • Conducter: Funnest job in the world. True story.

  • @pineapplepeanuts

    Very true.

All you need to do is watch vids of Karajan or Bernstein, or Salonen or Dudamel or Rattle to see it.

    *wishes he were a conductor*

  • Poor guys don't have ear protection 2:09

  • 1:15 superman conductor :D

  • 西部警察からきました

  • there's a guy with a gold flute!!

  • The conductor is a hoot: wonderful stuff...

  • the menacing 'meno mosso' after the opening is basically in the same tempo as the 'vivo', because one measure of the 'vivo' equals one half note of the 'meno mosso'. this gives the impression that 'gnomus' is in one tempo, which it is not (at least in the ravel orchestration).

  • at 1:20-1:25 the first oboe player is like the only one moving around and being serious an stuff LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @thedancingcouple Глупый пиндос, это и всё, что ты заметил в работе величайшего мастера Гергиева???

  • love the headbang in the beginning

  • One of the best versions I've heard!

  • that oboe took a wide deep breath lol

  • When I go to an exhibition, the pictures don't make this sound.

  • Ok, I'm trying to remember which movement it is of this piece I heard a few years that still gets stuck in my head to this day. It goes "doo do do loo dooo do do do do do do do-di-do do do dooo, do do-di-do do do dooo do do-dooo"

Thus far I've ruled out any of the promenade movements, as well as this one.

I really wish text were more helpful in this matter.

  • @markiemarkl The Old Castle is the one you're looking for.

  • wtf, 2:05 when they hold their ears, that didnt sound to loud to me, what is the reason behind this?

  • @Philboy50 It didn't sound loud to you cause the microphone wasn't at the source of the sound. I'm a horn player in an orchestra that's playing this piece and I sit about ten feet away from the person who uses that percussion instrument (slapstick) and I almost jump every time because it is so loud. When you're next to the slapstick, you definitely want to cover your ears because it actually hurts your ears.

  • @hornguy04 xD thanks

  • lol at begining the spaz attack

  • Aww, it's such a shame you don't have the other parts!

  • God! That tuba sound! I guess that Thein tuba was worth it!

  • 0:00 - I'm impersonating Jack Nicholson in The Shining! *spastic*

  • Press 0 repeatedly to see schizophrenic monkey on drugs

On another note: 0:20 is so deeply disturbing...One of the sounds I want to remember for the rest of my life!

  • @JamesTR4 "the monkey" è puro genio!!! great!!! XD XD XD XD =D

  • @notnowjon the flying hair helps too ^^ XD

  • @JamesTR4 XD ;D

  • GERGIEV RULES MUSSORGSKY!!!!!

  • @SordidGuy

    any clap for Ravel

who re-arranged from piano to Orchestra ?

  • @abelbeau99 : I meant "conducting" - Sorry I didn't specify......

  • @SordidGuy

I also meant that Mussorgsky composed this piece for piano in 1874,

the french composer Maurice Ravel elaborated the version for orchestra in 1922

( and Emerson Lake and Palmer in modern rock in 1971)

Greetings from Italy ( and French Antilles) :=))

  • Win!

  • 0:0- 0:01 LOL :-D

  • 2:00 That's David Bliddy Cameron second from the right isn't it? That man'll do anything to get on the TV....!!

  • I friggin luv the internet, if they kill it people are going to freak, period.

  • whip, thats a whip

  • What is the instrument on 2:09 and 2:28?

  • @Metro81717 thats a Clap or a Whip.

  • I'm glad I play the double bass

  • I was so transported by this performance...

    ...and then it ends here?

  • Which orchestration is this?

  • @ArtD42 I think the only one that is being used worldwide is Ravel's orchestration

  • OHHHH MAN hot blonde cellist.

  • @SashaTheBrit I agree!!!!

  • the last take was like "rate us now".

  • It's so cute when the percussion men cover their ears. I mean they must be careful to protect their ears but it's weird.

  • @robhighnam A few years ago I heard the observation that it takes at least two people to make music: one to make the beautiful sounds and the second to appreciate them. I can't speak for more serious players, but having taken about six or so years of violin and a couple of self taught ones of guitar, I'd have to agree. To truly master something you have to really push yourself, often beyond the point of being able to enjoy it directly.

  • Oltre all'esecuzione mi piace anche il biondino al violoncello!! Dehehehe xD

  • Does anyone else recognize this from the Big Labowski? Man, that cracks me up!

  • LOL. at 2:09 when the percussion guys cover their ears!

  • @diefagggotdie A very profound comment, I must say ;)

  • @diefagggotdie yes:

    Percussionists covering their ears?

    Hahaha, THAT'S A GOOD ONE!!!

  • @diefagggotdie you have no idea how loud those cymbal rolls can be, I sat 10-15 feet from it and it was still painfully loud.

  • @BRp4e No, I think they were protecting their ears from the whipcrack... it's a very loud instrument, especially with one the size of theirs!
