I agree wholeheartedly. If not instituting mandatory conscription, I'd at least pass a law that one can't put a "yellow ribbon" or "I support our troops" decal on their car until they've at least passed basic themselves... though, I'd rather make magnet decals illegal, so as to make the bumper sticker more of a commitment than a fashion statement.

Mandatory service didnt work because politicians, rich people and their children still get out of it. I would be okay with it if I was serving along side of the Bush twins, for example. I have served along side with people from countries that have mandatory service. It is absolutely not the way to go. It doesn't stop those countries from going to war, it doesn't make their military better, it actually makes it worse.  Our volunteer military is the way to go.
