got tickets to see Slaid at McCabe's in Santa Monica in September. Discovered him at the Strawberry Music Fest several years ago. Told him "I hope you brought LOTS of CDs" At the end of the weekend, he told me they had sold all they brought.
I just think I can write a song now and then...then I relisten to the chorus of this song. Broke down..torn and frayed...ain't nothing left you can give away...It doesn't get any better than that.
stumbled into the horseshoe last night and caught this guy by pure coincidence. Best part of the night for sure. Great music and even good yodeling. lol
Saw him a couple of weeks ago at a little club at Chorley in Lancashire, UK. Absolutely brilliant storyteller, great singer/songwriter. Also a really nice guy.
bergersontile2 - you are SO right! The mainstream crap that the conglomerates like Clear Channel try to shove down our throats does not even come close to the talent of musicians like Slaid, Charlie Robison, Bruce Robison, Robert Earl Keen, Phil Hummer -etc. This is GOLD!
probably one of the greatest tragedies is the sad commentary our mtv culture makes everyday is the finest talents in this world are digging in the dumpster for a peach pit of approval while the masses gobble up britney and the rest of the mainstream crap. Slaid hold the line you are all we have left of truth.
haha I just remembered, One of the first times I saw Fred Eaglesmith he said "To those of you who don't know me...my name is Slaid Cleaves, and to those who do...my name is Fred Eaglesmith" hahaha
@vwrob67, I couldn't agree with you more...

First time I have heard this guy and am very impressed. I agree with others he is very like a young John Prine!

The fact that Rascal Flatts is famous and Slaid Cleaves isn't pisses me off. The crap that is passed off as music to the masses amazes me.
