Hey mate, no disrespect taken. Benn was a great fighter and he had dynamite in both hands, that's why he could change a fight at any given moment, especially when he was in trouble. But Hagler was a beast from a different planet lol, I have never seen a fighter with a chin as rock-solid as his, it's fucking unbelievable. The man walked through a prime Hearns, Mugabi, Roldan, etc like it was nothing, he took their shots and laughed, I just don't see Benn being able to hurt him.

I totally agree bro. Hagler was a very underrated boxer. People think he was a brawler because of his exciting fights with Hearns, Mugabi, etc. But the fact is, Hagler was a very intelligent counter-puncher who had good boxing skills and head movement. He could fight both orthodox and as a southpaw, and he was never considered a GOOD puncher, he was a decent puncher, but not like Hearns/Mugabi/Benn etc. He had very good conditioning and that allowed him to wear his opponents down.
Amazing and brutal fight...Nigel is one of my all time faves for his spirit, his heart, and his natural punching ability. I looked at the fight again, it's impossible to say how hard his head connected or not, there was some connection I think but not a lot, Nigel did however rabbit punch the guy 10 or 12 times or more which isn't good, Gerald did 2 or 3 bad punches on Nigel too though...

To put some things straight, Nigel did win his second bout with Eubank, if you watch the documentary about them, Eubanks guys fitted up a draw to get a lucrative rematch made, so they were one each in honesty. In the Mclellan fight, there was an unintentional but quite bad headbutt which may have contributed to Geralds problems, but what a fight...

McClellan was a absolute scumbag who got what he deserved,a fine fighter but a disgrace as a human being.The fact that my favourite fighter of all time (and a very decent man) messed him up makes it all the better.One of the top 5 fights of all time.

Although I feel a certain amount of sympathy for Gerald McClellan as one human being to another i feel i have more sympathy for all the animals he tortured and mistreated. Supporters of McClellan seem to want to airbrush this part of his life and forget about it whilst all the time talking about Gerald's suffering. What about the suffering of the labrador that he taped the mouth shut of while his pitbull killed it in his basement?
You can google it, he did it on more than 1 occasion he said "my pitbull needs to kill everyday" but he says his dog didnt need to be picking up any injuries so he taped the mouth of other dogs closed so they couldnt defend themselves.
He wasnt a very nice man at all and even though the fight was a tragedy some people might say (me included) that karma caught up with him.

He IS NOT an ordained minister but he does preach the word of god. I'm not part of "the squad" myself but have family that are which is why I was there. A fight against Froch would be a good match up though- both warriors with great hearts- could go either way I wouldnt like to pick. Mayweather? wrong division. I love Benn but at M/SM he didnt fight Toney/McCallum/Jackson/RJJ and failed to better Eubank over two fights. Best MW in last 3 decades was Hagler, no doubt at all about that, Benn would never beat him.
Today's Super Six would have gotten killed with the Spr middles that were coming out of Britain in the 90's and all the way up to Calzaghe. Tell you what, boxing here in America sucks. I hate to say it but it does.

@taylorchris1000 Also how much of a warrior McLellan was in that. He continued on fighting when he had sustained brain damage in that fight, and kept on fighting until his body could no longer stand it. If I know what we know today about that fight, I would have happily had the ref stop the fight in the first round when benn was knocked down.

I just wish benn was fighting now in his prime he would have given any middleweight in history a hell of a fight , and would have ko'd his way through the current middle and supermiddles . Fighters like benn don't come around that often he was a true warrior , who had a heart of a lion and was most dangerous when hurt!. Thanks for a great tribute to a warrior .

@mchnerch one of most exciting middleweights for decades certainly. Benn admits himself he would not have beaten Calzaghe at SM. A fight against Froch would be a good match up though- both warriors with great hearts- could go either way I wouldnt like to pick. Mayweather? wrong division. I love Benn but at M/SM he didnt fight Toney/McCallum/Jackson/RJJ and failed to better Eubank over two fights. Best MW in last 3 decades was Hagler, no doubt at all about that, Benn would never beat him.

This is my favourite (and best) Nigel Benn tribute on youtube. My favourite boxer of all time, it is not hard to see why Nigel Benn will go down in the hearts of the British public as one of the all time greats.

He continued on fighting when he had sustained brain damage in that fight, and kept on fighting until his body could no longer stand it. If I know what we know today about that fight, I would have happily had the ref stop the fight in the first round when benn was knocked down.
