Gerald you are a very positive individual, overall the video was great, but that aslo makes it hard to spot the small inconsistencies which should be considered, our pasts do affect the present to a degree, unless I am just unable to shift the paradigm.
Gerald, awesome message - thank you! Indeed, we must not blame the past for making us who we are, we should THANK the past for making us who we are. As you say, our experience is related to our paradigm. Change the paradigm, change the experience. Stephen Covey speaks about this in his book, "Seven Habits to Highly Successful People." Once we understand that Life is about the self (and not the other), then we cease blaming and we start learning.
True change lies in silence in the mind. If there is a goal a method real change isnt possible. Because it oparates on the same level our problems where created in the first place. When the mind is silent your perception of the things that come in your life will be more clear. The "I" will stop to exist. People tend to think that they have to think in order to solve problems. But its that very thinking that created them. Attacking a inner problem directly will not solve it. .
I have alway thought the same thing, especially the fact that thinking negative can make it very very difficult to get of. Unfortunatly, I went through a particular professor in one semester, he really brought me down to a very low level. I had experiance a lot anger during this time because of his class, towards my self and especially towards him. Of course that hellish class is over, but unfortunatly I am still trying to get out of that negative attitude. Im still trying.
@saulwilliams56 Buddhism is a path, and regardless of one's life choices they can follow this path by follow Buddha's doctrine of love, compassion and kindness! :)
About search for truth: there is a living example in "Demian" (Hermann Hesse). If the person really wishes to see a reality - his passions are instantly projected in the living person, who embody or his tyrant or his temper (it depends on his individuality - I had a temper). And appears "Franz Kromer" ...
The searcher for truth should win him by self ( for recognize own weaknesses and power). We need the awful opposition, meditation - only for peace of mind ( not for knowledge).
I don't think there's a 'true' self as such. From my own experience, it's more a case of 'where am I at this point in time?'. The 'authentic self', for me, is about being true to where I am are now — in contrast to pretending, or going along with definitions imposed externally.
I feel that people tend to think of the "self" as more or less unchangeable, but I think a good portion (not all) of it is influenced by the people around which we grow up, so it's harder to pinpoint one's "true" nature.
the problem is when we wanna change our habits, its so difficult because of conditioning man. i can change a little bit today, next week i'll regress.
thanks for the enlightening piece of advice and for the time as well! keep on trekkin. Only one complaint though... make more music! :p lol take it easy
Gerald i respect your sacrifices that i can clearly see that you've done to attain/persue internal peace.
I would Love to do the same however,
in a way i feel as if we have our emotions and we're meant to use it.
Such as anger,When a Man disrespects me i feel the need to look him in the eyes and correct the scenario.
At the same time i want to be a man at peace without violence but it seems if you dont have that little "beast" within then your just a Presence with no Structure.
Very wise words Gerald. The subtleties of thought repeated again and again can either create a heaven or hell for us. No wonder it is so important in Buddhism to guard the mind. We are habit creatures. We are also not totally aware of everything we say and do at all times. This seems to be a very delicate matter.
T_T what a beautiful preaching. I never hear thing like this even thought I have the Cambodian Buddhism background. The Cambodian Monks doesn't sound something like you have said. I prefer to listen and learn and do it rather than praying for PEACE. Thank you I think I am in neighborhood that fits me :D
This one is awesome too. You are so positive and wonderful!
