This episode lived in my head for a long time, I am 38 also. The Death Probe scared the crap out of me. So did the movie Halloween. I'm glad I found this. I'm going to show it to my wife. "See this... it gave me nightmares when I was a kid" lol
Episode spooked me as a kid. Sound of that thing still gets my neck hairs up, along with the screams of the Fouke monster from Legend of Boggy Creek and the Invisible Monster from Jonny Quest. Thanks for posting the clip.
My favorite part of the Death Probe is the ratatat tat sound it makes when it's "thinking". It sounds like an old IBM computer when it does that, so I have to assume it's supposed to indicate tht the probe is actually sorting its punch cards!! Awesome!
There is a second, upgraded Venus death probe that was Black and had different accessories for killing, and generally hassling the six million Dollar Man.
This particular death probe was dispatched by helicoptering it up into the upper atmosphere.
The second death probe had to be lured into a desert pit full of sulphuric acid, even though it was much nastier.
I like this model, version one, except Mark II had a laser. I think...
I worked on the real versions of this stuff - autonomous vehicles - for a DARPA-sponsored project in the late 1980s (they were designed for driving on Earth, not for VENUS),
Our version look more like the Jeep, and used TV cameras and a laser, but the laser was only for detecting distance (it wasn't powerful enough to do damage)
Hee Hee-I say the send the Death Probe to Pandora!! That'll show those murderous Na'vi a thing or two! DP II had a net, no I think it was a steel Lasso, which it roped Steve Austin with on order to drag him into it rotisserie blade hand. Mark II looked more like a Dalek meets Maximillian out of Disney's "The Black Hole". still can't find a picture of Mark II-it's the hardest thing to find on the internet! :-D
Thank you for clearing my memory up. The Venus probe had a burnt appearance,and was destoryed lifting it up to the atmoshere. The Death probe was black and had the spiked arms, and it was destroyed by dropping it into a concrete pool of acid. ..... I think ?
I remember that death probe gave me the heebie-geebies when I was a kid. If I even heard something similar to that sound as I walked down an alley in Los Angeles, I ran all the way home LMAO

I agree! I never knew what to call it. I just knew it was a tank. I havent' seen this in over 25 years. Man... SyFy channel and TV Land suck! They need these classics.
The strange vehicle was referred to as the "Venus Probe" in the script but the episode was entitled "Death Probe". Same thing. And, yes, it was destroyed by lifting it with a helicopter until the low atmospheric pressure caused it to explode. Ludicrous but fun!

@Astraldragon1 in november TIME/LIFE is releasing the whole series here in AMERICA of the six million dollar man. They are doing the whole 5 seasons (or is it 7) to dvd with extras. The fembots and creators are doing commentary. The Bionic woman is released in OCtober but only season 1 so finally
From the way it bobbed as it moved, I'm guessing it was a wheeled vehicle like a Bobcat as opposed to something tracked and they built some sort of fibreglass body to go over it. Very cool!!
Yeah, the first probe in Season 4 as mostly white but given a burnt appearance, whereas the probe from Season 5 was all black and had rotating spikes.
been waiting for these to be released on dvd forever! when will they? i remember another episode with a second death probe that was olive drab and had rotating spike arms!
