Pokemon was shown every day after school when I was growing up. Everyone i knew had it. Even one time on 8th grade trip half my grade brought ds and played pokemon on the bus but now it is crap and shown once a week. As sad as it is I think Cartoon network will eventually stop showing Pokemon
as much as people dog on Black and White...it's actually a very VERY fun generation, some of the pokemon are pretty ugly, but they make up for it with gameplay...very well written story

help i was rematching the elite 4, for the 8th time with an all dark team. but when i wanted to verse the champion alder, nothing happened, i mean i walked up to him, and it's suppose to automatically make you fight the champion, but nothing i kept walking toward him, i was able to move around but that's not normal, please help and thank you.
What I would want is a game that takes all the greatest elements of the pokemon gaming franchise into one, solid, story based game, regardless of how long it would take maybe one thats like the coliseum saga....but you don't have to rely on catching shadow pokemon, or forced double battles, where you could engage in an actually EXCITING world, through puzzles and gaming elements that give you the franchises full package, an indepth world of pokemon.... am I stupid for thinking like this?
Generation 3, the peak of pokemon potential, we'd seen the lone handheld RPG's... the mystery dungeons, the introduction of rangers, and of course a new plot with the shadow pokemon. they really lost their sense of innovation, instead of creating something new and exciting its all about creating the same game with a few beefed up visual graphics and merchandising tactics with new pokemon,
@swan6307 Infact, yes. Since it's the most recent, it's at it's best. Plus, after you beat the Elite Four, you can get pokemon from past regions, so you can use ALL pokemon, without hassle.

@firetools I've been trying to see as few of them as I can until I have the game. I want them to be a surprise. The only one I've seen is Sammerott or something along those lines. And that looks badass so I'm looking forward to it.

People, the reason the first two generations of pokemon were so good was because the pokemon were, in a strange way, realistic. Based off real animals, ect, however with their own uniqueness. These new pokemon, in general, are awful. The creativity has gone downhill; anyone who can't see that is just naive.
@Gr33nkiwi The creativity hasnt gone downhill at all, it was just expanded. Like you said, the first 2 gens had more animal-esque pokemon than later gens, but the later gens added more pizzazz to it imo. Pokemon were starting to become based off concepts, legends, mythologies etc. Infact I find some of these new Pokemon in general MORE creative. Anyone who thinks the creativity has gone downhill because they stopped making purple rats is imo, naive AND blinded by nostalgia
@Gr33nkiwi And about a majority of them are unique with their own concept or gimmick to them. EG A trick fox, a lizard that where's its own shed skin for clothes, and a 3 headed dragon that's loosely based on an 8 headed serpent and a certain popular kaiju(that means giant japanese monster btw). Calling them "random squiggles" doesn't sound to good either. Even the ice cream(I agree on how horrible it is) is really an ice stalactite covered in snow.

@firetools That's a good point actually. Some of the originals were pretty weak. Seal, Eggxecute (sp?), Muk, Krabby, Magikkarp... Every series had it's duds. Miltank was just a cow. If anything these news ones sound really creative.

What I am deciding between are the Pearl/Diamond, Black/White versions. Does Black/White have other things to do like berry mixing and contests? And are there any Pokemon from Sapphire/Ruby, or Gold/Silver?
@GoldeneyeMarine Yesir. There are a TON of other things to do, not berry mixing to my knowledge, but some other mini games more than make up for it, contests are in there as well. You can not catch any Pokemon other than the new ones until you obtain the National Dex. Once you do you should be able to get most of the older Pokemon. Again if you don't mind the new Pokemon, B/W is def a better game. D/P (or Platinum) is def a good choice as well.

Although there were older Pokemon mixed with the new ones in the other versions because the older pokemon have gotten new evos and pre evos in the generations they were introduced. But in B/W, none of the new pokemon are related to the old ones. Its like they wanted to do a fresh start. Just like they did in Red/Blue(When pokemon was all new).
I recently bought a 3DS and I've been looking through the DS catalogue for Pokemon Games. My last one was Emerald. I thought I could just pick up the latest one, but the user reviews are worrying. I don't like the complaints of lacking features, because I loved the features of Emerald; berry mixing, contests... Just stuff to give you a break from constant battles. Is White a good purchase, or should I get an older one?
@GoldeneyeMarine Black/White is a good purchase. However, my personal favorites right now are HG/SS (Silver/Gold remakes for DS). Black/White is much more solid in terms of game-play, but I just really hate the new Pokemon. If that doesn't bother you, go with Black/White. Feel free to ask anything else you want to know, I'll do my best to let you know.
@PivotDreamArt You are probably one of the only people that dislike the B/W Pokemon that I can RESPECT, simply because you let goldeneye decide if he wants the game, instead of trying to steer him away from it because YOU dislike the pokemon, like most people.
I thought this was the worst main Pokemon game. I had no problem with the new generation, I just found there were a lot less features compared to the other games. I miss the decent Pokemon contests, and the poffin mixing. My favourite Pokemon game is Ruby, and I think that Emerald is the best.

@gonzalez108 I say heart gold, honestly i have been playing pokemon since i was a kid and have bought each big addition into the series, but honestly... it was the worse addition into the series, not for the new pokemon cause at first they're kinda weird but you learn to like them, but it just didnt feel like a pokemon game, it moves too fast through the gym leaders and i feel there is not enough adventure and half the world is closed off half a good portion of the game
Am I the only one that thinks this is the worst in the series? Note it's not terrible, but I didn't find it great. The reason's are as follows.
1) The starting pokemon (Not the first three) where pokemon I didn't want anything to do with like that chipmunk thing, making you not use you pokeballs.
2) It takes a while to even get DECENT pokemon at best. Also Panpore was fucking useless after the gym.
3) Most of the pokemon incorporated dark muddy colors, even shades of brown.

And as for the pokemons colour scheme, you're absolutely right. It's hard to find a colourful pokemon in b&w
@TOMMY95215 The whole point of capturing pokemon was to literally say "Wow that looks AWESOME" Or "That looks SO CUTE" in B&W you could actually FEEL the repetition in grinding for experience, and you need to grind A LOT if you wanna beat the gym.
I think that they where trying to mature the pokemon franchise and if that was the case, then why keep the same battle mechanic? It's still the light heart'd, turn base RPG we've seen in past games, why not make it more action oriented?

Like emerald for example, I could play that 24/7, same goes for heart gold and red. Pokemon need to step back and remake some of the old games. Like a kanto remake and hoenn remake. Or even make a game that allows you to play as which ever hero (red, gold, ruby, sapphire, green) and lets you travel through regions.

People, the reason the first two generations of pokemon were so good was because the pokemon were, in a strange way, realistic. Based off real animals, ect, however with their own uniqueness. These new pokemon, in general, are awful. The creativity has gone downhill; anyone who can't see that is just naive.

@Gr33nkiwi The creativity hasnt gone downhill at all, it was just expanded. Like you said, the first 2 gens had more animal-esque pokemon than later gens, but the later gens added more pizzazz to it imo. Pokemon were starting to become based off concepts, legends, mythologies etc. Infact I find some of these new Pokemon in general MORE creative. Anyone who thinks the creativity has gone downhill because they stopped making purple rats is imo, naive AND blinded by nostalgia

@Gr33nkiwi And about a majority of them are unique with their own concept or gimmick to them. EG A trick fox, a lizard that where's its own shed skin for clothes, and a 3 headed dragon that's loosely based on an 8 headed serpent and a certain popular kaiju(that means giant japanese monster btw). Calling them "random squiggles" doesn't sound to good either. Even the ice cream(I agree on how horrible it is) is really an ice stalactite covered in snow.

@firetools That's a good point actually. Some of the originals were pretty weak. Seal, Eggxecute (sp?), Muk, Krabby, Magikkarp... Every series had it's duds. Miltank was just a cow. If anything these news ones sound really creative.

Because all I've read is about some hack or something called dream world. Is it possible to find someone on the trade net or whatever to trade you old Pokemon, or can I only trade up from the other Pokemon games? Again, thanks for your helpful responses. I haven't been in the loop for 7 years.

My favourite game was emerald by far...
The pokemon were memorable and there tons of features for a gba game! It was such a well crafted game and I spent many years playing it.
I have just bought a DS specifically to play pkmn black/White so I hope it can live up to my expectations!

What I am deciding between are the Pearl/Diamond, Black/White versions. Does Black/White have other things to do like berry mixing and contests? And are there any Pokemon from Sapphire/Ruby, or Gold/Silver?

@GoldeneyeMarine Yesir. There are a TON of other things to do, not berry mixing to my knowledge, but some other mini games more than make up for it, contests are in there as well. You can not catch any Pokemon other than the new ones until you obtain the National Dex. Once you do you should be able to get most of the older Pokemon. Again if you don't mind the new Pokemon, B/W is def a better game. D/P (or Platinum) is def a good choice as well.

Although there were older Pokemon mixed with the new ones in the other versions because the older pokemon have gotten new evos and pre evos in the generations they were introduced. But in B/W, none of the new pokemon are related to the old ones. Its like they wanted to do a fresh start. Just like they did in Red/Blue(When pokemon was all new).

I recently bought a 3DS and I've been looking through the DS catalogue for Pokemon Games. My last one was Emerald. I thought I could just pick up the latest one, but the user reviews are worrying. I don't like the complaints of lacking features, because I loved the features of Emerald; berry mixing, contests... Just stuff to give you a break from constant battles. Is White a good purchase, or should I get an older one?

@GoldeneyeMarine Black/White is a good purchase. However, my personal favorites right now are HG/SS (Silver/Gold remakes for DS). Black/White is much more solid in terms of game-play, but I just really hate the new Pokemon. If that doesn't bother you, go with Black/White. Feel free to ask anything else you want to know, I'll do my best to let you know.

I thought this was the worst main Pokemon game. I had no problem with the new generation, I just found there were a lot less features compared to the other games. I miss the decent Pokemon contests, and the poffin mixing. My favourite Pokemon game is Ruby, and I think that Emerald is the best.

@gonzalez108 I say heart gold, honestly i have been playing pokemon since i was a kid and have bought each big addition into the series, but honestly... it was the worse addition into the series, not for the new pokemon cause at first they're kinda weird but you learn to like them, but it just didnt feel like a pokemon game, it moves too fast through the gym leaders and i feel there is not enough adventure and half the world is closed off half a good portion of the game

Am I the only one that thinks this is the worst in the series? Note it's not terrible, but I didn't find it great. The reason's are as follows.
1) The starting pokemon (Not the first three) where pokemon I didn't want anything to do with like that chipmunk thing, making you not use you pokeballs.
2) It takes a while to even get DECENT pokemon at best. Also Panpore was fucking useless after the gym.
3) Most of the pokemon incorporated dark muddy colors, even shades of brown.

And as for the pokemons colour scheme, you're absolutely right. It's hard to find a colourful pokemon in b&w

@TOMMY95215 The whole point of capturing pokemon was to literally say "Wow that looks AWESOME" Or "That looks SO CUTE" in B&W you could actually FEEL the repetition in grinding for experience, and you need to grind A LOT if you wanna beat the gym.
I think that they where trying to mature the pokemon franchise and if that was the case, then why keep the same battle mechanic? It's still the light heart'd, turn base RPG we've seen in past games, why not make it more action oriented?

Like emerald for example, I could play that 24/7, same goes for heart gold and red. Pokemon need to step back and remake some of the old games. Like a kanto remake and hoenn remake. Or even make a game that allows you to play as which ever hero (red, gold, ruby, sapphire, green) and lets you travel through regions.

If anything, guy's and gals. Don't buy this game. Unless your some PokeJunkie then go ahead. Buy HeartGold or SoulSilver instead. Which is pretty much Silver/Gold and Fire/Leaf in one game. I'm still playing just so I can find ONE good thing that I like, which is Zebstrika and that's about it.
