  • So, we must be protected from compulsory service of our nation, but the government coming in and interfering in health and other personal decisions is perfectly fine? (abortion, drugs, gay marriage...) You can't make that argument, then continue to stick your nose in people's lives in MANY other ways, Jim.

  • I would like to sincerely thank South Carolina for Senator Jim DeMint. With great appreciation.

  • their hearts are in a box, buried at the bottom of the sea. they don't care about us. same with republicans

  • Dermint! Thank you so much for this! Please Lord let others follow in his lead.

  • demint--the TRAITOR. Let's hope he's arrested in Central America and they show him the REAL meaning of a "dirty sanchez."

  • Good to see there is defender of the constitution in the Senate rising aswell.

Haven't heard of Sen DeMint before he was the first cosponsor of the Senate Version of Ron Pauls Bill.

  • There are Republicans who are starting to see the light. This is due to Dr. Paul who has started an awaking among the people. Every day more and more Americans oppose fascist neocon neolib nonsense. Hey Rahm and moron Mccain take your plans for conscription and move to Tel Aviv.

  • We need him. No more weak people. We need an articulate well spoken man with back bone.

  • Senator DeMint....PLEASE RUN IN 2012! Any chance your state will secede? I am moving to S.C. if so.

"The road to Hell is paved with good intentions!"

  • Thank you Senator DeMint for standing up for the American people who fail to see the light. I hope soon that more SENATORS will stand up for the people and not the GOVERNMENT:)

  • LOL!

  • so when are ppl going to come together and stand against the power seize of the federal government. ppl stop being fucking lazy and pass off your power for want of less responsibility

ppl will take your power and use it for there own advancement. ask your self if you were surrounded by ppl who would give your their money and let you make up the rules they can live by and they wouldnt stop you no matter what you did. WHAT WOULD YOU DO. be truthful. dont be mad at these ppl take your power back

  • Governments enforcing NS via penalty (an abuse of Article 9 Declaration of Human Rights) are Undemocratic Human Rights abusers. Only rogue governments will deny exemption or conscientious objectors.

Clauses allowing Government to penalise individuals who assert right of Self Determinism (an abuse of Article 22 Declaration of Human Rights) are ILLEGAL internationally and a Human Rights Abuse.

It is up to individuals or parents to file injunction and damages against a government forcing them.

  • just thought i'd toss one of these in here....RON PAUL!!!

  • "This bill is everything wrong with how congress see's the world". Yep i agree with that. Awesome speech. Top that barry. 5 STARS.

  • Civil servants are forbidden from engaging in political activities on the job.

The Dems have found a way around this...

    Call them 'volunteers'..!!!

But, they're not 'volunteers' if they're being paid!

This is a stealth way of creating Obama's political Spy-Force, to spy on the American people...and fund it with our tax dollars!

What we are witnessing is Obama & the Dem's version of 'shock & awe', using combat tactics against the American people, hitting us with everything all at once.

  • My daughter was in Brownies and Girl Scouts-she is now classified as an expert in her field in Civil Service! My son LOVES God and has a 3.97 grd avg right now-obama you cannot have him. PERIOD. He mows our 80 yr old neighbor's yard every summer for NOTHING. He carries in her groceries and wks on her computer when she needs him he is there-he goes throughout our community with a church member helping the shut-ins with their yard wk and repairing their houses.

    obama-cannot have my kids!

  • YOU only WISH! LOL

  • That's OK Sis', we will prevail where it counts as real Americans not like the sick pussies hiding under stinky skirts where losers like Hr9Cunt comes from.

  • side by side! We will and they will see how stupid they have been! <3

  • so now Hr9C0 says "fuck your white family" was just a joke! LOL

  • Hr9CO....oooh what an intelligent rebuttal in a political debate....BUTT since you went there....From the looks of your 105 year old ASS (profile) you couldn't f*ck anything!!!

  • Hr9CO...YOU SAID "fuck your white family"....YOU said it to my friend. You started it, now I am finishing it!

Why would you even say that "off topic".

Why are you withdrawing all your comments now??..hmmm

  • You have every opportunity to shut the FUCK UP, you hateful racist asshole!

  • Thank you for speaking up and helping to protect the American people

  • I 2nd that! Hear! Hear!

  • Just because everyone is stockpiling Nuclear Weapons doesn't make it right. But they have right to make their own choices.

If the RIGHT TO MAKE CHOICES is taken away by threat of punishment, it becomes a HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE. It does not matter how many months or years the programme is, or what values it may impart, Article 15 of the Human Rights Constitution has been trampled on. It is a matter of principal, this is the essence of Democracy.

I always thought well of the USA, it's doubtful now.

  • Senator DeMint needs to get ready to run for pres. or vice pres. Until then we need him speaking up. He is saying what all our representatives need to be saying .Were are the others ? Ron Paul and Dennis can't take back our country alone. Call your congressman and tell them you want there position on HR1207 allowing and audit of the FED.Find out where all the money went and jail the thieves.Don't take no for an answer.Demand a call back make them do there job.Capital switchboard 1-877-851-6437

  • Obama's Hitler Youth bill is a horror. Voluntarism is voluntary, that's why it works. Forced labor is not freedom.

  • Very well said. The leftists in this country need to listen to this man... not just hear the sounds coming out of his mouth, but genuinely listen to his words and understand the truth underlying them. GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE ANSWER, IT'S THE PROBLEM!

  • In January of 2007, Chairwoman Pelosi made a horrendous addition to our budget. That caused the Treasury to issue many more bonds. That took credit away from the private sector and caused it to crash. When the private sector crashed, unemployment more than doubled. When it doubled, it made made the people ripe for a program like this. It is better named the National Slavery Act.

  • Obama is going for a power grab...wants to be our dictator. He will throw quality and intelligence (like Jim DeMint) into prison. After Obama bankrupts the country, then he'll blame it on someone else, that he "inherited" it.

Well Mr. President, we are not cowards, we are not weak and we will stop at nothing to end your abuse of our freedoms, as a collective mass. Who needs terrorists when you do their work for them?...and thanks for setting GITMO free and handing them cash to live among us.

  • Remember when Michelle Obama was speaking on one of her presidential campaigne? She made this statement..."We will own this country" Meaning she and Obama. this is what he wants.

  • He will make a great vp for Mike Huckabee....

  • Isn't it tragic that these brazen atheists, in our government, subtly (but obvious to the faithful constitutionalist) admit that government is replacing G*d?

They work tirelessly trashing Christians and have succeeded. Then to fill the vacuum, the nice gubmint rushes in. It's fulfillment of the communist manifesto- pure and simple.

America has died for her sin of abandoning the LOrd.

  • Thank God for the few legislators that not only remember we have a Constitution that has given Americans many freedoms through the years, but also know why Americans are so giving to others! Seriously compare these two facts with other countries. Congressman DeMint hits the nail right on the head with keeping government out of volunteer service. We desperately need more Congressmen like him. Remember Reagan's comment: scariest words "We are from the government and we are here to help you."

  • I remember those words... Still scare me until this day!

  • @ MeLikeGoFast

I have already refuted your patently false claim. You sound like a typical Big Government authoritarian, refusing to admit that you are wrong. There was no declaration of war for Iraq or Afghanistan (or Korea, Vietnam, etc.). If I didn't know better, I'd guess that you were a Turing Test meant to drive me crazy by incessantly denying reality. I'm done responding to your unmitigated ignorance. The choice to remain ignorant or crack open a copy of the Constitution is yours.

  • Stop borrowing ,stop spending stop taxing, and let America work...

Compassion can NOT be legislated. .. We the people need to take of we the people... Charitable organizations can do way better than some government programs.

Look not to Washington to solve your problems, look first within yourself , and then look around you.

Why elect a community organizer, and then look to a central government to solve the problems? If we take care of our own, then we are beholding to none but our own

  • That is a very intelligent comment cfm990! Liberty and self-reliance is what made our country great with limited government.

  • Amen.

  • Well said sir.

Just like the banks, all this group is going to do is get more people dependent on their services so that they can ask for more money. Their primary purpose will be to continue the program not for the program to help people (with the reverse logic of the longer we are around then naturally the longer we can be around to do good instead of the more good we do the longer we stay around)

  • Time 3:38;

"Today in America, over half of Americans get their income from the government or a government source."

    - Jim DeMint, Republican, North Carolina

  • The WPA and the CCC did a lot of good. Why should they not be revived?

  • Thanks Senetor... I felt as though Iv'e just escaped hell and came to heaven, as I was listening to your speech.

The "truth" has a special "ring" to it.

You also need to expose the other side, as people of no religion, no faith, and no morals. And the fact the they "want" government to control everything, is only a "projection" of their "inner emptyness"

    God Bless You Sir!!!

  • DeMint for president!!!!!

  • Thank you Senator DeMint. Yes, government cannot run SQUAT!

  • "...stop spending, stop borrowing, stop taxing and let America work." Well that about sums it up just perfectly. America doesn't work because the government is getting in the way.

  • We need to stop this proposal FAST! Call your Senators everyone!

  • wake up it's already law probably passed in the dead of night.

  • Seesalrun,

As of 10:15PM CDT it hadn't passed and I think the Senate has gone home for the night.

  • it has not passed yet. the senate is still debating the bill. they may pass it today though.

  • Do not let them con you into the belief that there exists mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Its all a big LIE!

The president, congress and the senate, alone, are responsible for this massive mess! The American people should get them out of office before they do anymore damage!

  • Good intentions via the use of force is immoral, no matter what the outcome.

  • DeMint is a neo-con piece of garbage in spite of his statements here. If Bush had proposed this exact same act after 9/11 he'd practically be having an orgasm on the House floor in support of it. The Republicans in Congress are SOUNDING more "libertarian" only because the opposition party is in power.

  • Bravo! Thank you for honoring you oath!

  • "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

    - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

  • Where were you, Sen. DeMint, when Mr. Bush was tripling the size of gov't? it's time for the good and decent people of the United States to permanently discard the fake left-right paradigm of the War Party.

  • better question: where were you, dulouz2001, when DeMint was voting on these matters? Where were you? Probably not listening to what he was saying were you?

I thought not. Who are you to criticize, when you don't even know of what you speak? Here is a hint, research before you throw out accusations like that.

  • Yes, it's important to know where anonymous commenters on the web were when DeMint was voting 'Yea' on creating the bureaucracy of ze 'Homeland' Zecurity, funding the unconstitutional Iraq and Afghanistan "wars", Military Commissions Act, and the 'Defense' Authorization Act of 2007 (to name a few of the Big Government programs this shill has supported). A real stalwart of liberty this one.

  • Maybe he actually read the constitution he swore an oath to, this time around... I'll take the 'newcomers' to liberty any way and any time they come. Just so glad he made this speech. It's 100% accurate - hope those there were listening.

  • The voters have the responsibility to manage their own employees.

  • Funding the military is a legitimate role of government, and there certainly isn't anything unconstitutional about Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Congress gave the go ahead., not to mention the thought of defunding those wars while our troops are overseas is disgusting, and it is quite sick that you would leave our troops stranded, not surprising I guess.

Where were YOU complaining about this issue when Clinton was in power anyways? Somalia and Kosovo were those unconstitutional also?

  • @ chlamydia

Please cite the declaration of war passed by Congress for the Iraq and Afghanistan "wars" of aggression.

The Congress has the sole constitutional authority for appropriations. If the cowards in Congress (like DeMint) were to defund the unlawful and immoral occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Dictator-in-Chief left the troops in harm's way, impeachment should ensue.

It wasn't until 2006 that I woke up and now favor the near abolishment of government.

  • 377-435 congressmen voted for the war.

  • @MeLikeGoFast

Spin all you want. There hasn't been a declaration of war passed by Congress since WWII. And look at all the "wars" that have been fought. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, the list goes on and on. 700+ bases in 130+ countries at taxpayer expense of $1 TRILL per yer year. We wouldn't have this mess if idiots like DeMint did their job and abided by the Constitution.

I welcome all those who are awakening to liberty--but that does not include the statists who worship the military!

  • 377-435 congressmen voted for the war.

    That is a fact.

  • @ MeLikeGoFast

The "authorization to use military force" that you're referring to does not even contain the word "war" in its text. That is a fact. And that is not a declaration of war no matter how you want to spin it.

The Constitution gives only the Congress the power to declare war (not the Coward-in-Chief)--it does not give the Congress the power to "authorize" the Dictator-in-Chief to use "military force".

  • 377-435 congressmen voted for the war.

That is a fact. I know it hurts but its the truth.

  • @QuartuvLarry

If you can cite where Congress has declared "war" since WWII, you get a Bozo button! Otherwise, I'll assume that you cannot cite a declaration of "war" by Congress since WWII and that you are just another, run of the mill, lying shill and military/state-worshiper.

  • Hr9C0 on this video says to me:

    Fuck your White Family.

    I said to it:

    YOU only WISH. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Thank You Senator DeMint! It's time we remove any Senator or Congressman who do not agree with you and the American people!

  • Applause! applause! We need more in congress thinking like this. Thank you Sen. Jim DeMint

  • He makes a good speech! I have no trust in my Government since they passed the patriot act, and havent brought back Habious corpus, When I follow the money of who give's money to support congress's campaign treasure chest, you find out who control's our government. Corporation and corprate lobbiest, these are truly sad times

  • Excellent speech! I wish every American could hear it! Volunteer America is what America is. Accountability is acute in volunteer America. (Whereas government has little or no accountability.) This bill encompasses what is wrong with the US Senate.

  • Things like this should not even have to be said. The constitution has already got it in writing. Thank you Senator De Mint ! Nice to see someone trying to to thier job! Keep it up! :)

  • Very good speech, but we needed this type of talk months ago,

  • A Senator speaks the truth!!!

    Excellent!!!

  • Thank you, Senator, for speaking out against this.

  • Sounds as good as Ron Paul.

  • Im glad Jim DeMint is my Senator! Im not glad Lindsey Grahamnesty is!

  • this reminds me of the speech Senator Davy Crockett gave once regarding the government giving out money......... great message

  • DeMint Rocks!!!

  • Thanks senator!

  • (...and thanks to the other non-lemmings who voted against: John Thune, Richard Shelby, Jeff Sessions, Pat Roberts, Jim Risch, Mitch McConnell, John Kyl, James Inhofe, John Ensign, Michael Crapo, Tom Coburn, Jim Bunning & Sam Brownback.)

  • DeMint is right.

  • Senator DeMint was far too gracious to the sponsors and supporters of this bill. Volunteerism can not be paid for. Concern for your fellow man can not be mandated. This plan is just another government takeover. To keep people working for the government is to forever increase the size of government and create voters that will never vote out their jobs. It is a return to serfdom. It is a democrats dream.

  • Gamecock...Of course the all voluntary military is not a mistake. It is the main thing that the government SHOULD provide for~ For the protection of its citizens.

In the past civilians have taken charge of nearly every social program and ran them very efficiently. Unfortunately, government is insinuating itself into areas where it should have no business and made a mess of everything.

  • The militarization of this country is a HUGE mistake. An involuntary military draft would make it that much worse. Force is always wrong; you don't force morality. the power to force people always turns to corruption and abuse. History shows this without exception.

  • gamecock: government operates on violence (or the threat thereof).

Are you saying that it is okay to use violence (or its threat) to fund the United Way?
