what ive noticed watching these safin and roddick matches with federer is that federer reads their angles of shots better than when he plays other opponents. its obviously insane how how redirects there big top spin forehand off the edge of the baseline and make them look like they dont have good court position. those are insane angles down the line and cross court. his forehand was vicious in this match
if safin, had the hunger, discipline and the mental, like a rafa nadal, he probably would have acheived, a lot more..and even with his mental break downs, injuries, he still managed to have a successfull career in tennis..
@extradutyfelt1 Both has hugh talents but the difference was someone commented Safin was not concentrating on tennis but rather on fast cars and girls than practicing. Where Federer concentrated on winning Grand Slams.
@extradutyfelt1 you can burn for tennis all u want but u got to have the talent. and both has. It's the desire that separates 1 vs 16 grand slams. a lot of guys on the tour burns for tennis too.
It really is a shame that Safin is retiring. He's only 29 years old! Sure he has not done too much since winning in 05, but when you think of it, with so many injuries, he's probably missed a good 2-3 years (maybe I am exaggerating a little bit!) because of that, so he is even younger in that sense. sinamoravej: that is what i realized too! Maybe he makes a surprise comeback just to win down under once again? Who knows?
I just realized how well the color of their shirts matches up w/court
@sinamoravej I think marat just lost his interest and motivation for playing tennis, he did well to retire, he´s probably much happier, not to be playing anymore. he had a great career, considering the mental-emotional issues and injuries, he had, throught his career.
Made it!

@diablomid exactly, with rafael nadal being another one, who burn´s, for the game.

@diablomid Safin has 2 slams BTW, unless you are talking about someone else.

safin here isn't even 50% of a player he was back in his prime. Great talent, shame that he was injury prone, and his "mind" wasn't that strong.

For Safin, his court postion, his movement, and his aggressiveness just are not there like they were in 2005s fed/saf match.

6:07 shot of the match lol! The intertainment and skill level in Feds matches in this particular tourny is ridiculous and unsurpassed!

What t-shirt is marat wearing and why does the collar stick out like that? I'd like a t-shirt like that

@DestroyerAlexandros It can zip up all the way, but he leaves it unzipped to show off his power necklace.

With the expression of Federer in 2:25, you can tell how he enjoys playing with Safin. Always good rallies, such as in AO 05

He shouldn't have retired. I mean come on he wins a slam every five years. 2010 wouldve been another title. :-)
