As ever with Playford's work, the emphasis is on the interplay between visual simplicity and complex narrative. He manages to marry the two beautifully, whilst holding the viewers attention with a complex blend of underlying menace and pure intrigue. Aimed more at the head than the heart, his work continues to push the boundaries of contemporary video making. If I were Angela Lansbury I'd be worried.
