I highly doubt anyone is gonna read this but I'ma write it anyway cause I did it for Heath and his loved ones.. PLEASE, PLEASE & PLEASE check out my latest single dedicated to the late, great Heath Ledger!!
It's called "The Joker Never Died"
Whoever said The Joker died, obviously was mistaken.
Yeah the movie has some good lessons in it, but the kids that pretty much make a religion about the Joker on this movie just follow anything they see wayyy too easily.
there's a goof here, at 0:43, the Joker is standing right in front of him pointing his gun right at his neck but in the very next shot, he is standing a few feet away from him and walks up to him when he says "they're cheap"
This is the Joker showing how committed he is to his own ideology of pure anarchism. The beauty of him torching all the cash is that it robs the mob of their true power base--money. Without their real power behind them, this allows the Joker to take over Gotham like he planned all along.
This is my favorite scene because at first he seems completely mental (well he is) but it stays in your head and you realize that the money doesn't matter and it would do no harm to you practicly if you did as well. Damn good job
major flaw in this scene. One Lao doesnt scream when he is burning with the money. Two if the mob leaders want to kill the joker all they have to do is fake like they are working for the Joker and kill him whenever they have the chance.
2.The mob leaders are not working for the joker and never did lol.Their man worked for the Joker because the mob leaders didn't have any money to pay them.
@Mikesmooth49 yea,at first, but since The Joker burned all the money, he was the only one that could pay them with the other money that he robbed at the start of the movie. That is why he recruited all the mobs men so easy.
@SelfHatingWhite not all of his crew are insane like him but most are smart enough to know that at the end of the day he can get things done which others can't, he burns the money to show that he doesn't need money to get the things he wants, people are so obsessed with money that we have actually programmed ourselves to think that pieces of cotton are of differing values based on only the number printed on them or are worth as much as a house or food, stupid if you ask me
why exactly does the mob give joker half their money ? the money had been promised if he could take out batman but he just killed rachel for his own interests. also why the fuck would maroni's men abduct rachel just coz joker told them to ?
If all the rich people (the top 5 percent) burned all their money, just like mister J here, then there would be deflation, and things would be cheaper, and things would be much better for the remaining 95 percent.
I think it's more that, as a character, The Joker doesn't care about material possessions and social status, but rather that people understand or worship his perspective and his ideals, as twisted as they are.
These criminals are trying to soothe him with things he hates, and he sees that. And he's sick of it.
interesting comments you guys, but his behaviour isn't logical, insofar as personal values can't really be logical. What I think he shows by this, is that there is nothing in the world which money can buy, which will make him stop - he's a violent nihilist. Also though, since he apparently thinks all principles are fake, he's the only one in the world with a real principle, which is "fuck fake principles."
lol i cant help but laugh "it's not about the money it's about sending the message." Heath Ledger will always be my hero since 10 things I hate about you. Playing the JOKER just shows he is a true actor who will always be remembered and missed R.I.P Heath
you are totally wrong. This scene is totally beyond your racist propaganda. Its about the importance of humanity over the importance of capitalism . "All you care about is money, This town deserves a better class of criminal, and I'm gonna give it to em". I would not say best scene, but definitely the most meaningful.
@mirrorimage345 It's not the importance of humanity over capitalism, it's the joker's idea of an anarchist criminal agenda being based on chaos, not profits.
@mirrorimage345 No. That was never the message intended in this scene.
The message is that the Joker is pure chaos, you cant control him. He has no limits and no moral/weakness, therefor he is the most dangerous being out there.
The other criminals have weakness, in this case its money/power/greediness...etc. But the Joker follows no rules, he is pure evil. You cant buy him or control him. That is why he is the best villian ever.
@mirrorimage345 I kind of see where you're going, but you may be placing external views into the movie. Joker isn't a humanitarian. The question of humanitarianism v. capitalism is another story, even assuming they're in opposition.
@mirrorimage345. You are posting a year before I am, so I don't know what comments you are referring to. The meaning of this scene is to set up the question of the Joker's motivation. The answer is given by Batman's butler: "Some men aren't in it for the money ... Some men just want to watch the world burn." Nothing to do with capitalism. How can his actions of burning money be any kind of triumph for humanity? He killed the man sitting on the money at the same time.
If you are looking for meaning in the movie, look no further than the scene with two ferries. On the prisoner ferry, the meanest looking felon talked the guard into giving him the button that would blow up the other ferry and save the prisoner ferry. Instead of pushing the button, he threw it out the window. The message is don't judge someone by the way they look, and that people with tough exteriors who have committed wrongs in the past can still put someone else's safety over their own.
I love how this movie turns the whole "anarchist" thing upside down. everyone thinks it's so respectable not to take worldly things (money, wealth, women) etc into account when deciding your behaviour. But in the Joker's case, it'd be better if he did! Some of the scariest people in history couldn't be bought.
Ah hah. A better class of criminal. Or if you look at this in a unique enough way, maybe an actual hero? Is Batman truly the actual hero here, or when it comes down to it, is it really The Joker? o.O
@fathermocker123 Good question . . . although, is it really the good intentions, or the actions you do that bring them about? Batman doesn't kill people (on purpose anyway) but the joker bathes himself in innocent blood. It's an interesting debate.
In order to have this debate, you have to define "innocent".Because I think if you ask Joker,he ll tell you that there are no innocent people in this world of misery.
Hmm, you've got a point there. Not saying i disagree with that point, but remember that the idea of no one being innocent is entirely subjective. I suppose that when i said "innocent" i was reffering to the fact that none of them had done anything publicly horrendous or justifiably "bad." But then, you never know; amoung the dead could be abusive people, bullies, spiteful or selfish people . . . everyday criminals, the kinds you encounter all the time but cant prosecute.
