@tomyloveu It is real, but the problem with bone marrow transplants is that they are EXTREMELY risky. Aside from having to find a donor who is HIV immune (difficult, albeit not impossible), the operation itself has a 1/3 chance of fatality.
Still, it is another reason to hate Bush for not allowing stem cell research. 8 years we have to make up for...

This was a procedure to replace the individuals bonemarrow (and because the donor had a mutation which resisted HIV infection) the side effect of the procedure was immunity to the disease he already had. The radiation itself, which would be needed before the transplant, would have a high mortality rate it would not be ethical.

Not really. There are many instances where people with HIV have had their viral load reduced over time to zero, although that is rare. Also, it isn't certain whether this is an actual cure or not... yet.

As Gallo was in charge of immune system destroying viruses 10 years of the 15 in the VCRP. He was contracted by the US government to help in the creation of AIDS/HIV for biological warfare uses.
