i currently have 5 eggs under my broody chicken but shes friendly she lets u look under her and remove her to eat and drink i hope atleast 2 hatch out for me and my sister.
That is she has been sitting on eggs for a couple of days, refuses to get off the nest and will turn quite vocal and aggressive to protect the eggs if you try to remove them. Once she is doing her motherly job you need to lift her off the nest once a day to relieve herself, she will then want to return to the nest again after about 5-10 minutes.
I had pheasant eggs in an incubator.Once I was sure the hen was serious about brooding I removed the dummy hens eggs while she was off the nest feeding and put in 8 pheasant eggs. When the eggs hatched,so did the remaining ones in the incubator,at night I slipped more chicks under her,she accepted them all! She mothered them well for 18 weeks, but then she wanted out, she'd had enough! And they were ready to fly the nest by then anyway.
The pheasants have been released into the wild and are able to fend for themselves. They return to our garden regularly to feed on the food left out for our chickens. They are full grown and the cocks are very colourful. The broody hen was a good mother to the chicks. They remained with her until they were 18 weeks old. Some chicks were hatched by her other eggs were hatched in an incubator and the chicks slipped under the broody when just a few hours old. Thanks for your interest.

Yes. Your hen needs to become broody.

how did you put the pheasant eggs under the hen? did you replace the chicken eggs with them at night?

It's good to hear the pheasants still visit! It lets you know they are alive and well, and you did a good job raising them :D

How have the chicks done these past few months? Will a chicken hen take care of chicks of different species?
