Your examples are weak, The father did not represent an organised religion, he didn't do what he did in god nam, what he did have nothing to do with religion.

In regards to the oilfields, this was done for politial/strategic power, not religious belief, and lots of countries (including ME ones), are guilty of bloodshed for strategic gain.
