  • originally written by mel tills and originally sung by johnny darrel. most recently covered by cake... better.

  • Better than the original! More painful...

  • that's right. Kenny did a great version, but he did not do it first.

  • Learned two things about this song today:

    1. Johnny Darrell had the original version of this song

    2. It's about the Korean War not Vietnam like I'd always assumed

    Knowledge is power people!

Really like this version too but just can't beat Kenny Rogers & The First Edition. Damn near perfection!

  • @MrScoopy19 written by mel tills sung by johnny darrel.

  • @MsDixieNormous Cheers. One more thing to add to the list!

  • This is a good remake but lacks the Kenny Rogers touch and this is coming from a person who is not really a KR fan but do realize he is a great song writer/singer.

  • I love this version! They did great! I know a few bands such as Lenord Nimoy did it and that one is hilarious! Sorry but all I seen in that was Star trek!Love the killers! Even my six year old daughter sings along!

  • This band suck hard!

  • This is not sourcastic, But "Killers"? I was expecting a much more Out Law Look ..or something

  • Good remake of a great song.

  • Good job, but cant replace the original

  • Original!!!

  • S my C. The Killers hate you.

  • This version was a bit too upbeat for the subject matter.

  • hey assholes, what's the laughing about? you wouldn't be laughing if you really knew what this song was about...you have shown disrespect for all of the Viet Nam vets...you should sincerely appologize....

  • This is fucking awful!!!!

even spock done a better cover ROFL!!

  • @architecturalabdabs yeah like totally "ROFL"...

  • @architecturalabdabs this video doesnt do it justice...i have the album Sawdust and it sounds 10 times better. I love the fact that the killers can do country so well

  • @infernalcross It's not so much the vid for me, the song just sounds empty.

Maybe I'm just stuck on ole kenny lol

  • The KIllers have a habit of finding good songs and murdering them with the ease the original musicians had making them. Pure ba's.

  • @maxbheath according to you. according to me this is a great cover and ive been listening to it since 2007 and still havent got tired of it.

  • Great remake.

I like the Killers even more for having good taste in Music.

  • Nice modern take on this......Great stuff.

It wasn't me that started this crazy middle eastern war....

  • it ain't bad, but kenny's versions owns...

  • ok but not as good as Kenny the laughter at the beginning says it all??

  • omg this is horible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @elric116

how is this terrible?? the killers make the best remakes of any song you will ever hear! listen to Romeo and Juliet

  • @carminewvu97 nevermind the criticizing idiots who have no ambitions but to sit at their computers all day talking shit about people they don't know.

  • Great band, awesome voice, sweet bass!! Love them!!! : )

  • disconnected...

  • if u havent seen leonard nimoy's take on this, u should

  • I like it. It's raw like real music should be. I can't decide between this and cakes version. But better than Kenny Rogers.

Waylon Also did a version but can't find it, anywhere.

  • no drive, no power, no sex in there. lame. long live KR

  • I believe its made in a loving and respectful way,but it lacks the sharp edge that the original has.

    However;nice job!

  • not a bad remake still love the original thou

  • is this tha same band who sang ''are we human''

  • sadly...it is- still active

  • i like this!another great cover!

  • Did Cake make a cover of this song too? No idea.

  • yuuuuuuup and i love cake!

  • Yeah, and if you ask me it's a LOT better version...though this is good too

  • not as good as the top man kenny rogers

  • Aaaaaamen!! Kenny did it better...c",)

  • Not a worthy version, in my humble opinion...

  • I always thought this track referred to the Vietnam War, but it's not - it's about the Korean War

  • This song runs like a train! I feel the fun they had covering it: something I don't always feel for the songs they've written themselves.

Killes become a commercial machine. I regret this.

  • FUCKIN A!!!

I didn't know how the Killers would do this song, but this is a really, really good cover!!! i do prefer the original, but this version is awesome!!!

  • the cake cover is way better.

    VIVA CAKE!

  • amen brother

  • its good but no fence kenny rogers is good to im not saying ur bad cause ur good so os kenny

  • this was donw in take and it was the like the first time they played so its pretty good :)

  • Cake's is MUCH better

    sorry killers

  • ahhh..

my teacher told me to listen to this song

    because my name is Ruby

I didnt know the killers did a cover :)

yet I do think Kenny Rogers did a better job...

  • I like the Killers so don't hate me for saying this but this cover isn't close to Cake's. Viva Cake!

  • 'If I could move Id get my gun and put her in the ground' I love this song, and in a way,its really sad! This poor guy gets paralyzed in war and his wife/girlfriend just keeps cheating on him because he cant do anything about it! Im thinking 'Ruby..what a bitch!' XD

  • According to Kenny Rogers, who phoned in an interview on Adam Corolla's 97.1 radio show in March 2008, the "crazy asian war" he refers to in "Ruby" was actually the Korean War.

  • Another great song from The Killers.

  • "It wasn't me that started this whole crazy asian war"

  • @justbmoor "You gotta know when to hold em".

  • yes the original was about the vietnam war

this might be about more recent carnage

  • The original was about the Korean War ... but ... only referencing that war ... the song itself is not about war or anti war ... it's about a dude whose wife is stepping out on him. The Killers' cover has nothing to do with any carnage ... they just liked the song and covered it. Simple as that.

  • which war is this sung for?

  • im guessing vietnam

  • the korean war

  • i love this song

  • Very good!!

  • I liked the original back in 1969 and I like your cover too.

    Keep up the good work!

    Lussenheide

  • i dont agree with you i love this cover!!!

  • ha ha i love it!! i love the bit at the begining!

  • very odd

  • i havent seen it yet

  • it´s a kind of weird i mean totally diferent but is not too bad !
