  • Thumbs up if Steve Wright brought you here.

  • man i love this song....its one of those all time classics in my opinion...bit of a tear jerker too...

  • ジャック・ニッチェ編曲の妙技、スティーヴ・ダグラスのサックス音がこだます、フィレス・サウンドの象徴、クリスタルズ"He's A Rebel"~愛しきダーレン・ラヴ

  • @blackandtanful

The writing is very artful to someone that NO IDEA what it means. Too bad there is not a translate prompt!

  • @TheMustangsally75 From google translator, it seems to be a cross between Japanese and Chinese. Compliments about the arrangement and the sound of the saxophone it seems.

  • Rebel Leader approves of this message.

  • The first picture, is totally not a rebel, that's more of a corn-dog XD but I love the song regardless!

  • my siser had this record when i was very young and i never realized till i got a guitar and figured out the tune why i loved it so much!!

  • Gene Pitney wrote so many songs for other groups and most became huge hits. RIP,Gene.

  • I have to say, simpsons brought me here

  • My friend and I sing this when we're hammered.

  • FYI, this song was written by Gene Pitney.

  • Whatever evil he might have done later, I still admire what Phil Spector did in the Sixties.

    This song, for example.

  • @PacRimJim well said.

  • thumbs up if your so freakin sick of having to hear commercials before the songs!!

  • @bethany2781 or watch

  • 15 rebels thought the button was "Dis i like"

  • Good times in Chicago listening to this on WLS...Spector was the shit back then, this version blew Vicki Carrs away, hands down..The only this that perplexed me was this album cover..we had Harleys running the street, not Moto Guzzis.....lol...Classic Greaser Rock.....

  • @MACJO63 this song had been a hit for 8 days... the 9th evening I was born

  • This sounds a bit slowed down.

  • God how this old stuff makes me smile

  • I luv these songs and will always listen to them.. These are the best songs ever!!

  • Though this is a 60's, not a 50's hit, personally this emotionally reminds me of

something else from an era just prior to this: a U.S. Army or Marine Corp infantryman

during World War II (1939-1945) or the Korean War (1950-1953) armed with a .30

caliber Garand M-1 rifle! The 1950's for instance has been distorted way beyond

    reality!

  • @jamesfarmer74 Me I think about a .38 Special, my dog loves

    shotguns. Who would figure!

  • For me, this song has memories of when I was in high school. Cody - Detroit, MI.

  • @noobish2331 bend over and ill show ya

  • i damn near got chills listening to this song. and im a straight guy...

  • Gene PItney wrote this song. A great singer, song writer and performer. RIP Gene. I miss you.

  • xaphoon you craazzyyy. another classic he's introduced me to

  • 15 people are not rebels

  • that gal had a voice!

  • I remember this from high school. Funny how we hear a song and bam ur there. Best girls groups around. I was in the states til 67 and up to that date the best music was produced.

  • I want a rebel of my own!! lol

  • where is this guy

  • Always my rebel!!!

  • Look at him truck!

  • 1962

  • Oh my gosh! I learned how to skate backwards at the roller rink to this song. Funny the things you did that are attached to certain songs.

  • The Simpsons brought me here

  • @clashrogers Nelson Mandela Muntz is a rebel :P

  • Love this classic doo wop stuff.

Lovely ladies, lovely voices wish someone could bring this back into contemporary music scenes.

  • these types of songs remind me of my gorgeous mum and dad in their young days, we had all these tunes around the house everyday. Miss this type of music, so thanx for posting.

  • This original version has Darlene Love singing Lead.

  • Today's" music"? Listen to Ludacris and his masterpiece that reeks of talent:''Move, Bitch, get outta the Way", a phrase repeated 25-30 times depending on how one counts.

There is more elements of genuine talent and musicianship is this one song than many of jerks like Ludacris will put out in their entire career! Little more to say............

  • I sang this, with the band, at my husbands motorcycle club. Got a standing ovation with lighters and everything. I guess they all figured it was their theme song.LOL!!!

Most of them are in their sixties but still Rebels.

  • @TheMustangsally75 My late dad was a biker as well. One of the few 68 year old men I knew who could do a 12 hour trip on a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 and not be phased.

  • @TheMustangsally75 Sally thats a great tribute, ha ha trust me all of us old Bikers are Rebels at heart and Just because we dont do, what everybody else does ;) well done lass

  • Totally agree with provital5!!!

  • When the chrome was thick and the Women were straight.

  • short and sweet :)

just the way i like it

  • Darlene Love got a flat $3,000 for singing lead on this song. She has more talent than Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Madonna, put together.

  • A #1 hit for The Crystals in November 1962.

  • See the way he glides down the hall. Watch the way he baffles them all. When he passes by they all can see That he's the boss. He's my Kosh! When he speaks it's always a hoot. Wonder what's inside of that suit? Down from ancient history, He's always one of mystery. Just because of that we know: He's a Vorlon and we never understand all his ways. He's a Vorlon and we never ever know what he says. Just because the other races can't comprehend him; That's no reason to send him beyond the rim. H

  • @SpaceInvader42359 That's probably the most awesome thing I've seen all day. Valto!

  • @EldoradoMaster

Thumbs up if you're using the internet....

  • @EldoradoMaster

You're an IDIOT!!! No, I'm watching in 1963. I took the Way Back Machine that the Profressor and Poindexter used on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show!!!

2 Thumbs down to you and anyone else that asks that rediculous question!!! Get a life! How that can be THE top comment is beyond all comprehension to me. Anyone else?

  • @EldoradoMaster it's still summertime in myrtle beach South Carolina

  • @saltybrys 1 week later, and its STILL Summertime in Myrtle Beach......Fat Harolds, anyone?

  • @EldoradoMaster

Once again, you're an IDIOT!!!!! No, I'm watching this in 1967. I borrowed the Way Back machine from the Professor & Poindexter, regulars on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show. They had to get it out of storage. They also found your brain there!!! If you can't post something more relavent than "if ur watching in 2011", you must not even be old enough to appreciate this kind of music. GET A LIFE!!!

  • @EldoradoMaster

Once again, you're an idiot!!! No, I'm watching this in the summer of 1967. Borrowed the "Way Back Machine" from the Professor & Poindexter of the Rocky & Bullwinkle show. They had to get it out of storage. I believe they found your pea-sized brain there as well. Step away from the computer and get some fresh air & sunshine. I think you need it!

  • @EldoradoMaster

Ae you still there? don't you have a calender(BTW whtydoesn't youtube have spell-check), Yoy are mot a REBEL, you are an IDIOT!!!

  • Didn't Gene Pitney write this?

  • @blutocampbell Gene Pitney did write this as an orchestral ballad

  • i love this song!!!

  • Love The Crystals--talented ladies with the moves, looks and some great songs. The "Rebel" on the album cover cracks me up--a real bad-ass biker.

  • F*ck 'Xaphoon and Chiddy' and these new unoriginal 'artists'... thumbs up if you're here because you love this song and love The Crystals

  • This being one of my favorite songs brought me here

  • @GeneralArmorus thats the greatest youtube comment ever made

  • If your body moves, that's music, good enough for me.

  • fun fact: there producer phil spector was convicted of murder. question: i wonder if this song might be related to his crime??

  • I like some modern music, but I also love this sort of thing. No one kill me. :P

  • While today's music may not be appealing to many, it should still be given a chance. Showing a forced reverence to all older music and saying all new music is inherently bad is an extremely narrow statement. If this generation supposedly has no "real" music to call its own, how do you expect it to appreciate music in the first place? You can't honestly expect older music and newer music to be done in the same style. Stop ruining this generation, and see it for some of the good things it offers.

  • This song is just so perfect for that time. The lyrics for girls who dared to love a bad boy when it was really looked down on...in an era were bad boys were not tolerated.

  • Chiddy fucked the fuck out of this song hahahaha i cant even here the similarties between this and xaphs sample

  • this is the first oldies music video i have seen so far where other youth are standing up for themselves. I too like all kinds of music and it sucks when we are judged because of our age, when the reality is that there is a lot of good about us, including the music we listen to. and also this song is super catchy!

  • @HelloIAmGreen Thanks to YouTube, those of us born 1960 and later not only get to enjoy our oldies but state that we do and know there are others like us, much to the surprise of our parents and grandparents. On one hand, I have times that wish I was born in 1935 so I could experience this era firsthand, but other times, I'm glad I live in an age where with the click of a button we can find whatever we want.

  • This is perfect for the outsiders bro! I love rebels -3

  • great song from a great era !

  • I guess 12 people are not rebellious!

  • Damn, it sucks to know I'll never hear any of these great bands in real life. Such great music shouldn't be confined to a record or a hard drive.

  • what a great tune i grew up listening to the 60's still sounds great today

  • The "no, no, no" on the fadeout is way off the beat. Darlene Love was so involved delivering the emotion, she got off rhythm. Embarrassed, she told Phil Spector "I'll sing it again." Spector said no, it was fine as is. Love could not imagine how that could be! To Spector, though, the Blossoms singing on one beat and darlene on another was perfect. He was right.

  • the Crystals refused to follow Phil Spector the producer from N Y to L A so , Spector recorded Darlene Wright and the blossoms ," the ' true' crystals " were obliged to play on stage a tune where no one of them sings !!

  • I want a girl my age (21) that hears this song in her head when she thinks of me...

  • One of the all-time best ever songs that takes me back in time!

  • How possibly can 12 people on this whole planet not only check "dislikes" above but obviously fail to the great talents and musicianship of this group?? Guess they would rather listen to Ludacris "sing"..."Move, bitch.....get outta way"!

  • good music is still being made. if you're clinging to this era of music as the 'good' kind, you don't know where to look. i'm not going to drop names or share it with random people on youtube. i'll let you live in your bubble.

  • i'm so sick of young people who think they're doing something special by liking this music. do you want some sort of gratification for liking something literally millions of people liked before you? nobody gives a shit. do you even own a single vinyl of your own? stop trying to make it about you.

  • @TengoBoner it does indeed get tiresome, but you can't blame them I guess when the older generations say that younger people do not have an appriciation for their music. They're just trying to impress.

I always wonder if the same people, if they had grown up in the 50s or 60s, would be saying that this kind of music was rubbish, and listen to music from the 1900s-1930s just to be different =).

  • @pw00tang I think the biggest difference is that the closest thing past generations had to today's Top 40 trend is Fabian. This phenomenon didn't really begin until the late 90s that I noticed, and it had to do with declining Top 40 quality. After 1998, I noticed an increasing amount of teens getting into oldies music, but it didn't really become popular to prefer oldies until about 2007. But actually, people who were teens during the 60s liked a mix of theirs and the previous generation's.

  • @TengoBoner I'm not trying to make it about me. None of us are. We just want to enjoy great music! I'll never ask for "gratification." I'm just gonna listen to whatever makes me happy, for that reason and that reason only.

P.S. I'm 14 and have an extensive vinyl collection. :)

  • l0l i love the little heart pumping to their claps!!! i like this song!!!!!!

  • One of my favorite songs. I used to listen to this with my mom when I was little.

  • i love this song..so much umph!

  • Not sure if this has been mentioned, but this song was written by Gene Pitney.. if you listen to it you can really tell it's his style of writing.

  • One of the great ironies of rock and roll. Gene Pitney's highest ranking song was kept out of the number one position by this song. A song he wrote.

  • firstelvis--- scratching records and grabing your genitals is not talent take a music course

  • DARLENE LOVE

  • Westbury High Houston 1963. Because we were the Rebels this song was a big deal to us. Alot of the music from the late fifties and early sixties brings back feelings from that time in our lives. Every generation has its' defining moments. Not better, just special in its' own way.

  • phil spector is one greasy motherfucker, but he produced some dope ass tunes.

  • @sickfuckino he was greasy but he knew his shit

  • @sickfuckino Uhm, interesting way to put it . . . but basically you mean he was a psycho and musical genius at the same time? I agree.

  • God!

  • Xaphoon is a musical genius

  • Thumb this if Chiddy Bang brought you here^-^

  • BIG BAD ASS VARRIO WESTSIDE REBELS13 GANG

  • It sounds very very strangely reminiscent of the benny hill theme at 1:15

  • The first time I heard this song was during my step class, but it was faster so it could fit the tempo we were 'stepping' to.

  • great song, great band but pretty lame video

  • Xaphoon and Chiddy brought me here..

thumbs up if their sample brought you here too!

  • @MrMincredible yeup! same here! Xaphoon and Chiddy <3

  • Dear Nadus: Your points above are not without merit BUT......when I listen to an incredible song like this backed up and produced by absolutely wonderful musicians AND THEN go to hear Ludacris "sing"...."Move bitch, get outta the way (and then repeat that about 30 times) well, then without apologies I call that moronic rubbish as I suspect so much modern "music" is. If you know about melody, meter, rhythm, harmony and lyrics then much of this garbage IS NOT music, more aural entertainment

  • @DavesCarWash You have wrote general truth. I do not remember sixties, but I gotta say that that was the best era for music.......I adore the songs, the wall of sound, the progres that music had experienced in sixties......

I wouldnt like to say something against the present so-called RAP music .........I do not listen it. Just when I overhear I bless to good that the oldies exist......

  • Chiddy!

  • Isn't this great? Yes it definitely is!!!

  • is it just me or does the drawing on the album cover look like Robert Evans?!?

  • ok anyone else having problems w/youtube vids starting then stopping then starting all over?

  • Dope!

  • Timeless song. Written by Gene Pitney.

  • @iwantpepperoni I didn't know that. Cool!

  • What wrong with being old fashioned even if your only 22? Theres nothing wrong with it. Just because it's old doesnt mean the old stuff isnt good. I like alot of new stuff to but there's nothing wrong with loveing the origins of great music, like the ronettes, crystals, Buddy holly, AC-DC, GNR, the cars, weezer, and even some of the more wierd off the beaten path bands like Devotchka, glass vegas, serge Borgough and other over seas bands. The truth theres always good music it's just hidden

  • One of the best girl singers of the era,Darlene Love can still belt out a tune. Phil used to get the best out of his artists, especially when he pulled out his gun. That'll make you hit those high notes! Love to all. Stop by my channel and watch me sing an oldie or two. Dan

  • What can you say about her (DL) ! Great!!!

  • TOTALLY BRILLIANT ONE OF MY TOTAL FAVES AND AN ABSOLUTE ALL TIME 60S CLASSIC-EVERY INCH IS PERFECT-JUST PLAYED IT THREE TIMES IN A ROW-MY THANKS TO YOU FOR A GREAT VID WITH EXCELLENT SOUND AND NONE OF THE USUAL DIGITAL TINNY TISK TISK-FAR OUT==PS US ELDERS DONT LOOK DOWN ON MODERN ARTISTS WHO HAVE TALENT BUT ITS SAD THAT SO MANY GET AWAY WITH LOUSY MUSIC AND MEDIOCRE PERFORMANCES

  • Now his brings back memories of my older sister dancing around the front room and my mother giving out because she was showing off her stocking tops.

Funny how things stick in your mind thanks for he memory

  • Look at that! The Rebel in the visual is on a BMW! Who'd of thought it!!!

  • @deaddoc HAH you'd have thought it would have been a Harley or an Indian ....

  • great song, too bad The Blossoms didnt get their name on the record since this is actually them and not The Crystals

  • ah Goodfellas

  • i play this song when i drive my 1963 cadillac. no women sit beside me.

  • @georgetilyou thats funny

  • I don't know if was written this way, or if Darlene Love fixed it, but those opposite-accented words are genius: "my ba-BY's al-WAYS the one" & "they won't like me af-TER today". It makes it harder to learn the words, but it sounds so great.

  • I'm still a Rebel......Kettering Gels

  • this is music to my ears :) aww oh so awesome :)

  • She's just incredible - I've loved her voice ever since I bought this song in 1962. I'm so thankful for her talent and she's way overdue for Hall of Fame!

  • Bliss................X

  • Comment removed

  • This song just make me so happy! it makes me think about elvis <3

  • Been listening to this song since 1962 and I never get tired of it. One of best rock and roll songs ever. Steve

  • The Wall of Sound.......The Pale.........The Jew in America...Greatness and Madness.....The creator of this song and this style....Phil Spector

  • @tigercub0100 if anybody gives you a hard time for listening to this, just comb your hair back and tell them to "scram."

  • @iwasborninomaha

    What hair?

  • this is the best song ever made! i listen to it over and over when i am getting ready in the morning. good stuff!!

  • Written by Gene Pitney

  • very good^^

  • It's hard to be a Rebel in 2010. I tried... apparently leather jackets and greased hair isn't "In". :( Great bloody song. Oh how I crave the 50's and 60's.

  • This is the original, and by far the best!

  • The powerful drums of Hal Blaine, gotta love that guy and his work.

  • omg i love this song!!! like ik its the 21st century and crap its like still amazing!!

  • Thank Gene Pitney for this song.

  • @shihan552 Yes Thanks to Gene and to Phil Spector for promoting the Crystals.

I wonder if Mr Spector ever thinks of these old songs nowadays.

    I Cr 13:8a

  • @johnnycee888 i bet he does. he's got a lot of free time to think about all kinds of shit now.

  • Darlene was big enough for both of them!!!! Keep it GOING, Darling!

  • This song STILL gives me the chills ! It was awesome in 1962 and still is today.

You can't mistake that Phil Spector sound, not to mention Darlene Love's incredible vocals.

The song was rather personal to me, back in 1962......LOL

    That's how we were then.

Those were the days when music was REALLY music: the sound, the beat,

the lyrics, and what the song meant to you.

  • I listen to this everyday now. The phrasing is so good..... and those sparkling ice cubes at the beginning, what a cool refreshing drink.

  • Cool use of Mr. Natural's buddy at the start! Good shot timing.

  • i still play these 45's every other day....be my baby ...he's rebel...and so many more i love these way more then todays junk that's for sure

  • A true classic and, yes, thanks to Phil Spector for this excellent example of his "Wall of Sound." But let's not forget to thank Gene Pitney (Town Without Pity, Only Love Can Break a Heart) for writing this gem for The Crystals. Pitney was not only a success as a singer, he was also an accomplished songwriter.

  • so much talent.better than the supremes in my opinion.LED ZEPPELIN ARE BIG FANS

  • @diagreen LED ZEPPELIN went to meet the singer jack scott he said he never heard of fred zeppelin

  • Real music -- sung in a time when TALENTED young men and women actually sung with their voices and had personalities. No grunting, farting, shouting and clowning, no rapping on stage. No funky raggedy-ass clothes. Real Rock 'n' Roll days.

  • @FirstElvis Can you point me towards a song with farting and grunting in it, as I am deeply fascinated.

  • @FirstElvis Im only 19 and I listen to literally everything and its crazy how elders look down and frown upon todays music just as alot of parents frowned upon Rock N Roll in its beginnings....just because you dont like it or cant compare or relate to it doesnt mean its NOT music or musicians today arent TALENTED.....

  • @Nadus973 Except that they aren't..

  • @deaddoc if you dont think singers like Chrisette Michelle arent talented that your just as narrow minded and minute as the rest of the world.....

  • @Nadus973 If one is truly talented, they get noticed because there's so much money to be made from it. No one would say that no one can sing since any certain date, but in the overall scene today there is a dearth of real talent. Singing is one thing, but creativity is another. When those of us that time and experience can see the amateurish nature of today, we have a right to say it. The problem is that everyone today expects instant recognition and success.

  • so true

  • @Nadus973

"sober girls be act'in like they drunk, sober girls around they be act'tin like they drunk, feeling so fly like a g6, like a g6 like a g6 like a g6 etc.....Sometimes I agree with some of the complaints of elders because back then most of the music was original and had a bit more effort, not that I'm saying music today is ALL bad but close to 80% is meaningless without a good catchy beat

  • @Nadus973 no no, music today really is garbage and saying you like it doesnt make it good, unfortunately your the exact type of person i was refering to, your a teenager you dont have taste yet your just going by what your told you like, it will be image your concerned witth right now, and no no pop music that teenagers like now could possibly be any good because youve been told by advertising companies what to like, ite easier to make money sticking to an eqation that doesnt rely on talent !

  • @mcpartridgeboy you clearly didnt get my point. there are tons of artist that dont get mainstream exposure and thats ok if you listen to indie music and stop judging ALL of todays music by just what plays on the radio.... there are tons of bands that labels will no longer back simply because labels are going broke INDIE music and labels are winning today..In contrast to what I listen too there is tons of talent in the world... you cant compare people like Aloe Blacc and bands like Deerhunter

  • @mcpartridgeboy There's PLENTY of fucking amazing music these days. Really, look beyond your radio once in a while. Stop being so completely ignorant.

  • @NoJamOnYourBread Janelle Monae check her out!

  • @Nadus973 im 17 and i think the same

  • @Nadus973 YES, it does. that's exactly what it means. it was beautiful, harmonic music back then...its TRASH today.

  • @Nadus973

But in the same regard their are plenty of young people who can comprehend this type of music.. They think this is crap and too old to have any meaning
