All parties were guilty of fighting....that is not up for debate. But the injustice occurs when once again, black people are given outrageous penalties compared to whites. The white kids that hung the noose on the tree should be charged with a federal offense, as this is a hate crime. Since when did fighting in school = criminal charges??

What's next? Federal crimes for toilet papering a tree? Any insult is an excuse to get violent? Get a real preacher, go read a bible, learn to properly deal with it. The black students did not choose to get violent.They staged a sit in under the tree. Which was the reason 4 the district attorney to say,"I can end your life with the stroke of this pen".Now who do you think he was talking to?Racism is alive today and if you cant c it. All I think he was saying is blacks are still not treated equally. If it would have been the other way around the white children's parents would have gotton the best lawyers and they would have still gotton off scott free. I also heard that some of the jury were kin to the white children. Now im not trying to say what the black children did was right because it wasn't. But that still doesn't give the white kids the right to go around and tie nooses to a tree. They to should have been punished.

well think about it this way.... how many riots would occur in the black community to get an attempted murder charge on the white kids if they had beaten a black kid near to death. they would have been fighting the same fight as the whites are now. they are just using this as a reason to rally. so you see the white rally groups there protesting? no. they said they did not want to envoke an already harsh situation

(Sweetmystify) at any expense, the kid was not beaten to death if he could go to a function later that night. Suspension, maybe expulsion, but criminal charges at all would be a stretch in my eyes. Especially when 'terroristic threats' are looked on as a prank. Justin Baker brought a shotgun to school some weeks later and was expelled, so I don't think he is the 'innocent' victim here either.

I didn't put words into your mouth. I made a statement. You had left out his guilt in all of this, and pointed out the group that was charged with beating him up. I was just pointing out, that even after this 'crime' had occured, Justin Baker brought a shotgun to school, and wasn't charged with anything, but just expelled from school. So I think bringing a shotgun to school should be a crime if beating somebody up with your bear hands is a crime. I mean, fair is fair, right?
