They charge in the local currency BHT. Its pretty cheap but you can negotiate with the driver on a price... I usually take a regular taxi, its the same price basically and its air-conditioned, lol.
@bobleeleebob In fact the Tuk Tuks are usually more expensive than a Taxi (which is air conditioned). So just do it for fun, not for the price. The only cheap Tuk Tuk ride includes a "free" stop at at least one store where the driver gets gas coupons. Such store are a tailor, jewelry store etc. Of course, you don't HAVE to buy anything there, however they are excellent salespersons and in addition, one doesn't waste time for nothing, right? So be prepared, if a Tuk Tuk is unreasonably cheap.
You arrange the fare before you get in tuk tuk, and be prepared to bargain down heavily from their starting price :)
