Someone who knows how to drive would eat any FWD car off the line with a subaru, hell, any AWD car would. Also even if he bogged the launch he would of caught up to the celica, it would have NEVER pulled on the subie. You cant even hear the subies exhaust after the race begins haha, cuz hes barely driving on purpose!
I own a 2001 celica gts 6spd & all i it has is a k&n short ram intake, full exhaust & an ecu superchip and im tellin you they are fast, really good power-to-weight ratio, the bottom-end is where all the power is, but it pulls hard in 5th & 6th too if you bomb thru the gears. The mk7 celicas (99-06) are very fast and have amazing handling at high speed, really fun to drive explosive bottom-end torque
No 4-cyl has good low end torque. If you want great power on the bottom end get yourself a nice V8. It's something an STi/Evo will never have, which kinda sucks as a daily driver.

Just be glad you have one of the good years with the rev limiter at 8400 and a cable throttle, and not an 02 or 05, when the limiter is at 7800 hundred. Mines an 03. A good year for the limiter but it is a drive by wire.

@Slammer10ft Celicas aren't faster than WRX -- not even close. Either your buddy wasn't flooring it, driving an auto, or you have a bunch of mods. Also, with those wheels on it, you're losing at least 2/10ths.

Dude cant drive that wrx, trust me if you know how to launch a awd car you would never be beat out of the hole by a fwd car. That was definitely a drivers race and the celica driver won.
A Celica GT-S has 140kW, a WRX has around 165kW minimum, with a shitload more torque. 4wd is actually the best for launching. Fwd is the worst. The Celica won because it is lighter and got a much better start. I know I use to own a GTS. A wrx would walk a Celica all day at the drag strip.

My 04 Celica just got wreaked by an illegal mexican driving a pickup. Needless to say my immigration status has changed since he took my baby from me. But I just bought a 09 WRX and its pretty nice. The WRX feels more powerful when its being driven and seems more stability, not to mention the ride is so much smoother.

@WretchedDrake unless you have my car. spec v. my car has low end torque, and a supercharger will just make me loose traction even faster, aka i go nowhere. if i get a turbo, then i have that low end, and huge top end, its a win win situation. and twin turbo is not necessarily better than a single turbo. Id rather have a HUGE single turbo than twin turbo. Turbo lag comes into play with twin turbos. And twin turbos cost ALOT more, and arent as effective. It all depends on the application.

supercharger is simple to put on , but turbo is infinite ! you can tune it more and more till your doing a burn out in 3rd gear then the cars useless on takeoff ,im planning on putting a awd swap on my celica 04 :)
on the street, anything can happen. my slightly modded gt-s beat an s2000. and ive been beat by a supercharged solara. driver skill, weight, mods, all factor into it. specs are only part of it.

That's a nice Celica. Mine is a GT, but it'll hold it's own. TRD Exhaust, Kamikaze Headers and Intake, and a intake valve mini suparcharger. I get a o-60 in about 5.9, and I'm running an auto. I'm upgrading to turbo soon, hoping for a o-60 in about 5.0 or lower. Celica's are definitely great cars. What do you have under the hood? You said 5.7 0.-60 so I doubt it's stock. Again nice.

the 2zz is the best hp/L that toyota every sold. out doing any stock b series and even beats the k's. now even though more horse power and a lighter car, the gts i think it slow. the 9th gen corolla xrs (05-06) has a much better better dyno curve w/ the same engine and 15hp less. and 5.7's? idk about that.

180 hp Celica GT-S manual trans vs. a 227 hp WRX auto trans- poorly launching the subaru totally negates the 47 hp advantage- plus the celica only weighs 2500 lbs to the WRX's 3140 lbs. 640 lbs is alot of weight for 47 horsepower to compensate for.
In the end, it all comes down to the driver.

My 04 Celica just got wreaked by an illegal mexican driving a pickup. Needless to say my immigration status has changed since he took my baby from me. But I just bought a 09 WRX and its pretty nice. The WRX feels more powerful when its being driven and seems more stability, not to mention the ride is so much smoother.

TT if you want to be drag king and go faster in the higher RPMs. Supercharger if you want the quick boost from the get go.

@WretchedDrake unless you have my car. spec v. my car has low end torque, and a supercharger will just make me loose traction even faster, aka i go nowhere. if i get a turbo, then i have that low end, and huge top end, its a win win situation. and twin turbo is not necessarily better than a single turbo. Id rather have a HUGE single turbo than twin turbo. Turbo lag comes into play with twin turbos. And twin turbos cost ALOT more, and arent as effective. It all depends on the application.

@comingfromthe925 ummmm.....what? twin turbo have lag? the point of twin turbo is so you can run a smaller turbo so you dont have as much lag. also you cant really run a twin turbo on a 4 banger. you would have to run them sequential which would me no turbo lag.

supercharger is simple to put on , but turbo is infinite ! you can tune it more and more till your doing a burn out in 3rd gear then the cars useless on takeoff ,im planning on putting a awd swap on my celica 04 :)

That's a nice Celica. Mine is a GT, but it'll hold it's own. TRD Exhaust, Kamikaze Headers and Intake, and a intake valve mini suparcharger. I get a o-60 in about 5.9, and I'm running an auto. I'm upgrading to turbo soon, hoping for a o-60 in about 5.0 or lower. Celica's are definitely great cars. What do you have under the hood? You said 5.7 0.-60 so I doubt it's stock. Again nice.

the 2zz is the best hp/L that toyota every sold. out doing any stock b series and even beats the k's. now even though more horse power and a lighter car, the gts i think it slow. the 9th gen corolla xrs (05-06) has a much better better dyno curve w/ the same engine and 15hp less. and 5.7's? idk about that.
