These French lines in particular convey more than their equivalents in the English version... "Si le dégoût de la vie vient en toi, si la paresse de la vie s'installe en toi, pense à moi, pense à moi." "If life starts to seem disgusting to you, think of me; if a weariness for living takes root in you, think of me!"
Everything about this lady is astounding. Her looks, her voice, her composure and the warm glow she emits. There must be a million men out there who would have loved to have married her. I would be satisfied if she was just my neighbour. What a lovely language the French have and such lovely ladies too !
Anne-Laure my love you will probabily never see this comment and it is maybe better like that. But wanted to telll you that this amazing song describe our story and contains the message I would like to convey you these sad days.
Her beauty in her youth was derived from her relative plainness when others looked like barbie dolls, and wow, look at how beautiful she is now while so many of the others look so haggard and wrinkly or like showroom dummy's.
I am learning French, & I know from reading it that the French version is better at conveying the sense of regret the individual has for not having said how they truly felt to this person. I understand that you had to simplify it for convenience sake, but a lot of the meaning is lost in this translation. :-(
Goede morgen, iets zacht en rustig voor alle vrienden en vriendinnen die ik vroeger misschien niet dat gegeven heb wat ze zochten omdat ik te veel met mezelf bezig was en niet luisterde !
I choose to offer you the best english version that exists and it is Françoise Hardy herself that wrote it. The lyrics are quite similar, french and english.I love too much this song to murder it with an awful literal translation
@TheMarcello68 thanks Marcello... maybe she wanted it translated as it is... but doesn't translate well... anyway, wasn't really a criticism, just a comment. hope that's ok..

Like a fine wine that mellows with age, Françoise Hardy gives us a mature and heartbreaking rendition of this French classic.

Bien que ce ne soit pas une traduction littérale, elle révèle tout de même une mauvaise interprétation des paroles de cette pourtant belle chanson...
Although this isn't a literal translation, it still clearly reveals a mediocre reading of a meanwhile beautiful song's lyrics...

I’m so alone I could die, and I know where you are
I’m coming over; wait for me, we’ll get to know each other
Set some time aside; for you, I’ve got all the time in the world
I’d like to get there, I stay, I despise myself
I won’t make it over. I want to, I cannot

I should talk to you, I should get over there or get some sleep
I’m afraid you’ll be deaf, I’m afraid you’ll be a coward
I’m afraid of being too forward
I can’t tell you that I maybe love you
But if one day you think you love me
Don’t believe that your memories embarrass me
And run, run ‘til you’re out of breath, come back to me
If one day you think you love me, and if you find it hard that day
To discover where all these roads are leading you, come back to me

If you find that life disgusts you
If life makes you apathetic, think of me, think of me
But if one day you think you love me
Don’t consider it a problem
And run, run ‘til you’re out of breath, come back to me
If one day you think you love me, don’t wait a day or a week
Because you don’t know where life is taking you, come back to me
If you find that life disgusts you
If life makes you apathetic, think of me, think of me
But if you…

I agree with dboegen there are mistakes.
For example at 0:57 she says : "je me déteste" so : "I hate myself" and it doesn't appear!
But i read in the comments this is the UK version, so it's not the perfect translation.
