A research effort led by the University of Colorado Boulder, will consider whether areas like the Beaufort Sea and the adjacent Canada Basin have passed a ‘tipping point’ and now are essentially sub-Arctic zones where ice disappears each summer.

Amazon may become greenhouse gas emitter

    .

Its dense vegetation has long helped cool the planet by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. But mass tree deaths brought about by recent droughts and deforestation may be pushing the Amazon to a point at which it will give off more of the greenhouse gas than it absorbs.

  • Modern growers are becoming increasingly aware of the value of CO2. Particularly now that most greenhouses are purposely shutting out CO2 to conserve energy.

The Johnson CO2 Generator automatically provides the carbon dioxide to meet maximum growing potentials - and operates for only pennies a day. The Johnson Generator can easily be installed in any greenhouse. No expensive ductwork is necessary and CO2 is diffused evenly without supplemental fans.

  • Carbon dioxide is one of the essential ingredients in green plant growth, and is a primary environmental factor in greenhouses. CO2 enrichment at 2, 3 or 4 times natural concentration will cause plants to grow faster and improve plant quality.

  • @Nightversionn Average global temperature nv u dummy.U know southern and northerrn hemisphere all encompassing, thats winter and summer duh!!

  • @ezeeskank Thank you for admitting average long-term temperatures are increasing.

    Refer to NASA:

    .

The global average temperature last year was the ninth-warmest in the modern meteorological record, continuing a trend linked to greenhouse gases that saw nine of the 10 hottest years occurring since the year 2000..

  • @Nightversionn No thats record cold where the climate models say there should be anthropogenic heat signatures. The years you refer to are indexed linked which means there are error margins of around 1.5C each way, which makes the temp difference between those years and say the thirties statistically not significant.

  • According to NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the annual mean surface temperature (land and air) for the region north of 64° N (the Arctic Circle is at 66° 33′ N) in 2011 was 2.28 °C above that which characterized the 1951-1980 period.

  • @laurelbush Guide says yes? What "Guide"? The important data about global warming relates to temperature, not precipitation. As the climate continues to warm, the oceans warm, raising humidity due to increased evaporation. Precipitation is increasing, and we need temps only barely below 32 degrees to freeze that precipitation. More snow doesn't mean that global warming isn't happening.

By 1879, however, naturalist John Muir discovered that the ice had retreated more than 30 miles forming an actual bay. By 1916, the Grand Pacific Glacier – the main glacier credited with carving the bay – had melted back 60 miles to the head of what is now Tarr Inlet.

  • Glacier Bay was first surveyed in detail in 1794 by a team from the H.M.S. Discovery, captained by George Vancouver. At the time the survey produced showed a mere indentation in the shoreline. That massive glacier was more than 4,000 feet thick in places, up to 20 miles wide, and extended more than 100 miles to the St. Elias mountain range.

Some glaciers in the European Alps have vanished completely. In East Africa, the glaciers on three high volcanoes— Kilimanjaro, Mt. Kenya and Ruwenzori — have been diminishing since they were first observed in 1880. The vast Muir Glacier in Alaska’s Glacier Bay has retreated a full 14 miles’ since 1902.

  • Leading Arctic expert William Carlson said that glaciers in Norway and Alaska lost half their size during the fifty years before 1952. Had that rate of loss continued, there would have been no glaciers left in Alaska or Norway by 2002. Given that there are glaciers remaining, we can infer that the rate of ice loss was slower in the second half of the century than it was in the first half of the century.
