Personally I have till this fine evening even knew that this was an Eagles original, gotta say love this version, 'specially the steel slide guitar! Fo' real! So KEWL!!!!! But any respect Tom Waits did bring this song to a whole new level! I stand by that Tom's the absolut classic and by far most beautiful version of this song!
@timmacadocious There is a video of them performing this in 1974. Go to eaglesonlinecentral. com and search there. I used to have it up on my page here but it got taken down.
I remember when they were Linda Ronstadts band. Then they broke out in 72, but in 76 Hotel California, and Frampton comes alive were 2 albums that were on the turntables
@ModernGaming750 but they DIDN'T pull such a stellar song from Tom's garbled version, the Eagles copied, note for note, the version recorded by Eric Andersen...common Thief.
@hoolifart1 I disagree. Eagles (as they prefer to be addressed) are a great band and I've followed their careers from the beginning. I am fifty-six, so I remember. You are welcome to your opinion but I will hold to mine. Eagles have been part of my life since before they were "standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona." I just recently purchased thier most recent, double album collection and it is worth the almost thirty-bucks that I paid for it.
@ruthiesky It's sweet that you welcome the rest of us to our own opinions. Thank you SO much. However, your original comment, "As far as I'm concerned, this song belongs to Eagles, not Tom Waits," is not an opinion. Tom Waits wrote this song. It is a Tom Waits song. The song belongs to Tom Waits. The Eagles simply recorded what is, in my opinion (seeing the difference now?), a bland cover that epitomizes their technically skilled but emotionally devoid discography.
@dpowens@moderngaming750 is right, Eagles play the song much better. It most certainly is my opinion and other people's as well. If you don't like this version, then go find a Waits video and have fun while you play with your Tom-Tom. I'll continue to enjoy this video, here.
@ruthiesky@ruthiesky Actually, I think I'll stick around until my point has sunk in, which clearly has not happened yet. Try reading my comment again. I'll wait. As an aside, I was recently reading that cognitive decline sets in around age 45.
was at that concert...we ran out of gas on the way home because the idiot driving had to drive around Consockhocken looking for a six pack....nothing like running out of gas on the Schulkill...or however you spell it...asshole driver

Binghamton ny here. I've been to the factory and tweeter and feel your pain. That road is the pits. Great story though.
As for the song, I love it.
Too bad there isn't a video also. I've been watching the 76 houston show online and highly recommend it.

Eagles should be commended for pulling such a stellar song from Tom Waits' garbled version. Even though he wrote it, they play it much better.

As far as I'm concerned, this song belongs to Eagles, not Tom Waits. This is a good nostalgia video-take and I like it.

Please read the prophecies of Linda Newkirk at prophecies org
Important warnings from our Lord about the Antichrist, the Two Witnesses, Revelation 12, the false rapture/alien invasion
Preachers/televangelists will say the invasion is the return of Jesus, many will believe as war and chaos break out
The Obama prophecies, sobering!
False prophets in the churches will be performing counterfeit miracles, taken over by Satan.
Please share these warnings with others

One of these nights may not be able to be uploaded for copyright issues. You can get a version from the current lineup.

Could you upload more from this specific gig? I'd love to hear "One of These Nights" or "Midnight Flyer".

Like, but would like it better sitting, singing, playing the piano with the others in the band. Where's my old video?
