  • That is, the first couple of scenes with people are from WH. Other scenes are taken from variou movies.

  • The film is Wuthering Heights

  • Jussi in "Splendid Isolation". No one comes close to his divine voice. Thanks Jussi for the gift to mankind!

  • I have it the same way - I grew up with Björling - with Boheme and Butterfly - since I was 8 - and now - 50 years later - he is a part of me - and no one - absolutely no one, can challenge him. There are many good tenors, - Caruso, de Stefano, Corelli, but there is just one Jussi - he is alone on the top!

  • Björling or Caruso? The taste is like the backside, divided. My vote goes to Jussi all days of the week, every day of the month and all along the years too. I have always loved Jussis voice. Heard silent night when i was in my Mothers womb And when i draw my last suck (breath) and goes in the fosterposition again i wanna hear his voice in my ears.

  • The greatest tenor of all time was ENRICO CARUSO!! This recording by Jussi Bjorling is one of my favourite all time records and although he tried and wanted to sound like Caruso his hero, he need not have bothered with such a voice like he had. Wonderful, just wonderful !!!!!

  • @dougieboy46 Caruso can`t sing in swedish, norwegian or german, he can`t sing lieder as good as Bjorling, No tenor can achive the change of register sounding as good in the top notes or in the low notes Bjorling can. Bjorling has all the virtues a tenor can have and almost none of the flaws or defects plus the sublime musicality.

Forgive my english since it is not my native languge

  • @jburidan May i say that Bjorling for years always wanted to sound like his hero CARUSO!! He wanted his voice to sound more manly than boyish! Caruso's voice was more powerful, baritonal, beautiful and warm. Bjorling tried to sound like this most of his life rather than youthful. Robert Merrill his close friend and colleague said that Bjorling for years tried to produce this phenomenal Caruso sound. Often Bjorlings wife told Jussi off for doing this. your english is very very good!! Thank you...

  • @dougieboy46 It is not only sound. If you buy a Stradivari that not make you Jascha Heifetz. It's an overall set of quialities (technique, repertoire, musicality) that makes Bjorling so unique. Of course if you were a young tenor in 1930 the very first model to follow was Enrico Caruso. But Björling's voice had so many nuances His legato is impeccable, the top notes, the breath control pianissimi etc. Don't misunderstood me I am a great fan of Caruso, Musical taste is very subjective

  • Wow! My favorite singer and my favorite actor (Ronald Colman) in the same great compilation. Thank you so much for putting it together.

  • Charmant.

  • i can't get enough of this tender singing. Thank you for posting this.

  • Thank you, P-B, for composing this beautiful, beautiful song! And who could have sung it better than Jussi, the master singer?

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful gem of recorded bliss with us. Jussi is, as he always will be, imcomparable. What a wonderful song by W. P-B.!

  • Truly the most beautiful and sincerely heartfelt singing I have ever heard. I think the sadness of his mother & father dying young was embedded in his heart and it really comes to the surface when he sings this. I know he is singing about the maiden and his voice depicts love and tenderness but with Jussi you can always hear the tears in his voice when he sings. A true artist and a monumental example to any aspiring singer in any genre. Thank you for posting.

  • Underbart!

  • Wonderful as always. TY

  • Is it opera or other

  • who composed this song

  • Wilhelm Peterson-Berger composed the music 1927 to a poem by Ernst von der Recke.

  • @bunnyz324 This is a Swedish song by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger

  • Those entranced by this recording need a final list of movies. Can we complete this:0-37: ?; 38: Wuthering Heights-Cathy and Heathcliff on the moor as children; 54: same, but as young adults in love; 113: Random Harvest wedding scene; 129: Bishop's Wife.Dudley (the angel) is preparing to leave;148: Brief Encounter; 202: Random Harvest-end, as Smithy's memory returns and he recognizes Paula as his wife; 215:?; 221: Wuthering Heights-End.Heathcliff holds the dead Cathy, and they walk into eternity.

  • 0-37 A Story Told In Dublin (Short ghost story with Orson Welles) 2:15 is the beginning of It's A Wonderful Life. Thank you for watching and enjoying my video. I wish I could do this kind of work as my job.

  • Jussi björling <3 Silken gåva från Gud! :)

  • One of the greatest voices ever!

  • Looks like Kathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, Smithy and Paula from Random Harvest, and Dudley and Professor Wutheridge from The Bishop's Wife. (Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier, Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson, Cary Grant and Monty Wolley)

A very underrated Bjoerling performance. Fine. Particularly fine.

  • This is one of my favorite pieces sung by Bjorling, "Jungfrun Under Lind" by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger. It really is a shame it is not in more popular. It demands it.

Bravo on the video setting. 1:55 is perfect.

  • Music=Jussi Bjorling

  • Beautiful, like listens to liquid velvet!

  • Tack PB och Jussi!

  • What's the movie on 1:48 called? :)

  • Brief Encounter. A very sad movie. Great though. Thank you for watching.

  • When the next iceage arriwes please take the evidences of Jussis voice down south. Protect it for ever.

  • Good thinking.

  • Jussi Björling. En Hjälte.

  • omg, im so glad i "found" this.

  • can there be anything greater than this???

  • a virtuouso grasshopper, apparently.

  • @hodjataoista

Only an even more perfect rendition by Master Bjorling himself.

  • Superb !!

  • The voice of Bjorling is extremely captivating. You can listen to him over and over and it is always a pleasure. There is none other that can convey so many thoughts and emotions with such beauty and voice technique.

  • Comment removed

  • i could listen to this all day it is just perfect

  • Forgot to mention, Thanks for translation, beautiful words.

  • I stopped by to listen to this song again, blew my head off, you know what I mean, I have no words for it, like all the sadness in the world builds up inside and then explodes, Whew!!!

  • decided to pop in here again, glad to see so many ppl appreciated my translation :)

  • Thankyou for the translation. The words are indeed beautiful as is the melody , but the voice ......oh the voice !!

  • Chokes me up and i don't even know what the song means...

  • Translation<<<(from a comment last year) In the spring a lindedtree buds so green with roses and marchviol under there sits a maiden so pretty and sewing in the bright sun She is like the sun in the spring like the apple is her cheek, when she in the mirror lets out her hair, it falls like flowers from the lindentree like the sun, catched by the lindens leefs. trapped by mind and thought she gets, me with sorcerous ways has bounded, and taken my heart,my heart inside.
  • Thank you for the translation!

  • Thank you for the information!

  • This is Beautiful, amazing!

  • What a superb artist Bjoerling was, splendid in whatever he sang.

  • I had to watch this again just to end my day with something beautiful. Who the heck rated this video less than five stars?

  • Probably someone more interested in the video clips than the glorious voice.

  • Well, Wuthering Heights for sure. Was the Cary Grant clip from The Bishop's Wife? I recognized Ronald Coleman in two clips, but I don't know the movie. Was his counterpart Garbo?

  • Yes, Wuthering Heights, The Bishop's Wife, Random Harvest w/Greeg Garson & Ronald Coleman. Any idea about the three others?

  • One clip is from "Brief Encounter" with Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson.

  • I think you'll find sir Laurence Olivier there also. what a wondeful singer was our Jussi.

  • Does anybody have the lyrics in swedish to this song?

Har någon texterna till denna sång?

    Mvh

  • This lyrics is a poem by E. v. der Recke - a dane, translated into swedish by the composer.

  • Wonderful stuff. I'm sure that it isn't only me who's noticed that Swedish has a melodic timbre to it even when it's in normal conversational speech.

  • There is definitely something extra when Jussi sings in Swedish - even tho I don't understand Swedish it reaches me so deeply. The clips go so well w/the emotions in the song. A beautiful video! (Can't believe I left out "Wuthering Hts." in my previous comment - such lovely clips.) TY again for this video.

  • You are welcome! Thanks for watching again.

  • Not only was Bjorling a great lieder and opera singer he was perhaps the exponent of Swedish songs.

  • His voice, these images....it just makes you want to cry. No other tenor had that "ripe with unshed tears" quality.

  • How wonderfully expressed ! This is the quality of Jussi, a voice ripe with unshed tears. You are so accurate in your description, a better metaphore for the uniqness of Jussi I have never seen.

  • I saw these clips long ago. In Swedish Bjorling's voice is so colourful! Don't ask me why!

  • certainly one of the greatest tenors of our generation................

  • Det finns, och har inte funnits nâgon som Jussi, alla andra i all ära, men ingen nâr Jussis höjder, bâde i röst och tolkning!

  • The Swedes are an amazing people.

  • Thans again for the beautiful translation. A beautiful song , and a singer who just takes your breath away.

  • LOVE JUSSI! 1st clip Rebecca? (the drive to

Manderly). Then Random Harvest (My favorite

movie), Brief Encounter, The Bishop's Wife,

the scene of the house (next to last) Since

You Went Away? Thanks for this beautiful video.

  • Thank you for watching. First clip is from Orson Welles Ghost Story then Wuthering Heights and the old house at the end?....It's A Wonderful Life!

  • He is a man like no other vocally. He had few equals, and there were none better.

  • I hadn't expected to find this video with our Jussi Björling singing the wonderful song Jungrun Under Lind with a real swedish mood of nature. Great sound.

  • Har balanserar Jussi mellan det sublima och det installsamma men som alltid haller han sig kvar pa linan. Jag langtar efter Paradiset for att fa hora honom live!

  • En mycket vacker film, och så denna vackra sång av Jussi Björling

  • Thank you for the translation of the song. It is beautifully sung. Yep , I am convinced that Jussi had some Scottish blood in his veins. Ok Swedes , I'm joking ....thanks for sharing him with us.

  • Thankyou for posting this on the web. Masters of such singing to be enjoyed here are the reason television is no longer favoured.

  • Magnificent voice "" Just like one of the other comments I thank Almighty God that such gifts are given.

  • if you think the grammar looks weird, its cus the lyrics are written in like very old swedish :P very poetically written. anyways hope you enjoyed it.

  • Translation<<< In the spring a lindedtree buds so green with roses and marchviol under there sits a maiden so pretty and sewing in the bright sun She is like the sun in the spring like the apple is her cheek, when she in the mirror lets out her hair, it falls like flowers from the lindentree like the sun, catched by the lindens leefs. trapped by mind and thought she gets, me with sorcerous ways has bounded, and taken my heart,my heart inside.
  • Thank you for the translation and for watching!

  • Many thanks for the translation of this beautiful song.

  • Just wonderfull. Very much thank You!

  • Immense beauty!

  • No words to describe this post, maybe tears can tell more. Thank you so much. Bjorling is my fav singer and this video just added beautifuly to his God's given voice.

  • what a singer i want to gry when i hear him

  • Absolutely splendid. Very good taste in both voice and films, rare qualities. Thank you

  • Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

  • Many thanks for this lovely offering from the great tenor Bjoerling and the entertaining montage of film clips.

  • You're very welcome. Thank you for the nice comment.

  • Wuthering Heights, Random Harvest, The Bishops Wife are some of the films the scenes are taken from. Nice voice. Nice song too.

  • Yes and Brief Encounter (the scene where Celia Johnson embraces her husband and cries). The song was composed by Swedish composer Wilhelm Peterson-Berger.

  • What a beautiul monatage and tribute to these great movies and the late incredible Jussi Bjorling. Wonderful work by the great ffilchaeh
