For those wondering why some films aren't on here, it's because all 50 of these (Plus #51 Winnie the Pooh and #52 Wreck-it Ralph) are produced entirely by Walt Disney Animation Studios, which is their own in-house animation team. This is commonly known as the Disney Animated Canon.
Stuff like A Goofy Movie and those Disney sequels are produced by DisneyToon Studios, an entirely different company and subsidiary to Disney.
And of course, Pixar is made by Pixar, another Disney subsidiary.
The Lion King, The Fox and the Hound, Lilo and Stitch, Hercules, Pocahontas and Brother Bear were all my favourites when I was younger. Now they have been joined by Tangled. All such brilliant films! :)
@ztslovebird Wreck-It Ralph will be out Nov. 2, 2012. Its about the title character, A bad guy in an 8-bit "doney kong" like game called "Fix-It Felix". But he want to be a good guy, so he leave his game, travels to other arcade games, a "halo" like shooter called "Hero's Bounty & a "Mario Kart" like racing game called "Sugar Rush". As for "King of the Elves" do sometime in 2013, it's based on the Philip K Dick short story about a old man who becomes king of Elves battling against Trolls.
@ztslovebird Wreck-it Ralph looks sooo cute. I got to see a short clip and I liked it a lot. Not to mention the fact that John C. Reilly does the voice for the title character and he's great.
To end the confusion, Pixar is NOT affiliated with Disney in terms of the original animated feature canon since 1937, therefore it would make no sense of those being part of the 50 animated movies. Yes, Pixar may be part of Disney, but they are a different/separate production studio.
@SmashBroGameAndWatch Oh. Really? All these years I could've swarn that Chicken Little was a Pixar film. lol Even though I knew Disney did CGI by themselves too. Thanks, bud. ^_^
Love how the first thirty are scattered across fifty years and then they made twenty in the last two decades. Technology speeding up the rate of production FTW.
like most people, i have no idea what the future holds for disney animation. but how would these examples of classic literature fit for possible animated adaptations (traditional or CGI):
This countdown is considering the Classic animation produced by the Walt Disney Animation Studios only, animations like Return to Neverland and The Return of Jafar (by Walt Disney Television Animation), Pixar's stories, Mary Poppins and the Enchanted (the Masterpiece Collection/real people movie) and others are not consider as the Classic animation
@hinchyc It's all in how you count. A Goofy Movie and Return to Neverland were both direct-to-video features while this only counts down the fully or mostly animated feature films that were released to the theaters. Some people have also complained that Song of the South should be included, but that was mostly a live-action film with some (admittedly memorable) animated bits, so it doesn't count here as an animated feature.
@TechnicalPenguin A Goofy Movie and Return to Neverland weren't direct-to-video films. They were made by DisneyToon Studios but they weren't direct-to-video. This only counts films made by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
u know what, they have actually missed out a bunch of films, like goofy movie and return to neverland which means this isnt disneys 50th animated classic
@Strifeheart92 It's sad. Disney movies that are actually good and memorable should be listed as Disney Classics like Winnie the Pooh and Bambi. There should be a moral or a lesson to a Disney movie, knowledge that we can apply to real life. Disney movies shouldn't look to the media to use pop culture jokes/references (i.e. Shrek or Bolt). The story/ jokes should be FRESH and should parody real life. You don't see Hitler jokes in Bambi or Michael Jackson jokes in The Little Mermaid/BatB.
so, the rescuers down under was disneys 1st proper sequal
